The rebellious teenager growled inside of Nabi. Both of them were treating her like a little girl, as if she didn't belong with the adults, and worse, a nuisance. Whether they were right or wrong, it only ignited Nabi's desire to disobey and get in their way.[break][break]

She side-stepped away from the ensuing battle between the metagross and victreebel. At her shoulders, Jiji readjusted himself, primed to jump into battle if that was what his trainer wanted. That's where it all seemed to inevitably be leading to.[break][break]

"Please, you don't know me," she said with an edged sharpness toward Elaine Highland. "Don't tell me what to do." Narrowed eyes switched back to Elijah who she was now certain wouldn't budge. If he truly belonged to Team Rocket, she had questions.[break][break]

Questions that could only be answered by him.[break][break]

In which case, maybe it was in her best interest to assist the redhead.[break][break]

Nabi procured a pokeball from her waist to send out her beautifly, immediately followed with an order for a STRING SHOT. The sticky string flew from Prince's proboscis, his target locked on limiting the victreebel's movements.[break][break]

"C'mon, Elijah, don't be that way!" Nabi shouted back at him. "You're grumpy, but you're not a killer. Prove me wrong!"[break][break]

She swallowed hard.

Tyranitar or not, it did not satiate Nabi's anger.[break][break]

She marched herself over to the other trainer, fists balled and her manectric following alongside, and attempted to reach out with both hands to grab a handful of his shirt.[break][break]

"Call it back then!" screamed the girl again, hoping that removing the source of the sand would rid of it. "Ugh, I just showered this morning!" And unfortunately, showers did not exist out in the wild. She also refused to go the rest of the day with sand in... god knows where.[break][break]

At least now, the threats seemed to have stopped, and the two of them were left in each other's company. The stealthy ditto had managed to slide its way up Arthur's head and onto Nabi's leg, only to make contact with an empty pokeball and disappear into the electronic void.

Nabi twitched at the word thief.[break][break]

She cleared her throat. "I thought we left that behind us. Forgive and forget and whatnot."[break][break]

What was her name again? Nabi pondered, realizing that maybe they hadn't even exchanged names in the first place. She did clearly remember stealing a churro that day, and then being forced to buy this girl one to make-up for it.[break][break]

Bruno's head popped out from the water. He happily spit out a small stream like a fountain. He was more than content in simply floating in place with his eyes closed.[break][break]

"It's Nabi," she then said as she slipped into the water, keeping some distance between herself and the other girl. "My name. You can call me that from now on instead of 'thief.'"

Nabi hummed in understanding, this time taking a moment to herself to chew her food and swallow before speaking again. "He'll say yes if he knows what's good for him," the pinkette said teasingly. She dove into her food with her spoon for another hearty bite.[break][break]

Then she began to think. Small, rusty cogs turned ever-so-slightly with curiosity. After a sip of water, she spoke, "Sootopolis is an interesting place to have a casino." Aside from its remote location, there was a larger reason why one might avoid starting their business there.[break][break]

"You're not worried about anything... happening?" She wondered if Team Rocket's presence held any influence on Yumi's business or even Yumi herself. "Everyone in Sootopolis must be a gambling addict," Nabi then said, as if trying to change the subject away from the Rocket organization. It almost felt taboo of her to speak about them.

Nabi held back a gasp, or rather, she was too stunned to react fast enough. Her eyes batted between Elijah and the red-haired girl, processing information slower than she would have liked.[break][break]

Truthfully, she wanted to listen to Elijah's words of wisdom. It was better for her to turn and run away, as if she had never seen him in the first place. But she knew the suspicion would eat away at her.[break][break]

Though she did not know Elaine Highland, it was clear she worked with the League. Nabi absentmindedly followed Elaine Highland's hand movements as she pocketed the microSD card. She looked back at Elijah.[break][break]

"You're with Rocket..." she said, saying it out loud in hopes that the truth would sink in. She took a step back, still contemplating whether she should run or stay.[break][break]

"Wait, hold on," she tried speaking to Elaine Highland. "He's not a bloodthirsty killer. We can talk to him." Nabi refused to believe the man that had saved her pokemon from death would senselessly kill people. Something else had to be at play here. "Right, Elijah?"

Mossdeep was littered with the scent of blood and rubble, the beautiful landscape turned ruin from the destruction of Team Rocket. Team Rocket. Nabi did her best, ushering innocent civilians and pokemon away from the fights, but it was everywhere.[break][break]

At the sound of a crack, she turned to look at the symbol of Mossdeep, its structure split almost to perfectly down the middle. A telling sign of the situation, and perhaps also of what was to come.[break][break]

She had no idea if her directions were guiding people to safety. And she had no time to collect herself and clearly think of a strategy. While Nabi wished to provide more help, she was much like those that she picked up along the way—confused, frightened, and panicked. Training, she realized, would never emulate the real thing, as much as her grandparents attempted to prepare her for this sort of thing. Except they expected her to be on the other side of the havoc.[break][break]

As Nabi helped a pair of children up onto their feet, a man of green hair and broad shoulders swept across her vision. She looked straight ahead, watching him follow a woman, or so it appeared. "Elijah?" She pointed in the direction for the kids to run, towards where many others fled to, in hopes they would find their way safely.[break][break]

And then pursued the man, keeping her distance and hiding out of sight from potential threats.

Sandstorms was not on the weather radar for today, so when the air around them suddenly thickened into coarse, gritty texture, Nabi made a terrible shriek. "Ohmygosh, ohmygosh!" she cried, first shielding the area around her eyes, and then her ears, and then her hair. None of it mattered.[break][break]

Arthur shook off the sand as he came to Nabi's side, finding it bothersome as well. Little did he realize a wild ditto had somehow found its way on his back and was taking covering from the sand.[break][break]

"You're ruining my hair!" Nabi screamed over the streams of sand. "Stop it! Stop it now!"[break][break]

In the mix of the sand, a wild dodrio appeared, its three heads cawing in displeasure from the aggressive winds.

The silverware was in Nabi's hand before the food was in front of them. Now looking at her dish, she could make out the familiar shape of a corphish, its shellfish used as a decorative piece for the main attraction, a cheesy crab salad garnished in greens and yellow spices. Nabi audibly gulped.[break][break]

Yumi's question pulled her from the food trance. "Handsome?" She thought about it, recalling his friendly eyes and soft skin (at least, from where she was, it looked soft). "I guess if you're into skinny guys," she then said. "I think muscles look good on a guy. I want someone that can throw me over their shoulder, and—" She paused, taking a moment to actually reconsider her words. "Well, never mind," she laughed softly.[break][break]

It took just one bite for Nabi to succumb to the food's enhanced flavors. She took her time with the first bite, cupping her chewing cheek with one hand and closing her eyes to enjoy the full experience. Before she even swallowed, she said, "It's delicious."

Josh Devlin

Kyogre was unforgiving. It took just one attack for both of their pokemon to go down, like children carelessly throwing toys to the ground. Nabi screamed for Nico as the bird descended towards the water, her body seemingly lifeless. Josh's plea, while heard, would have no affect on Nabi.[break][break]

"Go, Bruno, go!" she shrieked over the thundering waters. Their bodies disappeared in the rolling waves, swimming closer to Kyogre's mighty form. Nabi just needed to get close enough to save Nico.[break][break]

The altaria plummeted through the water, beak first, and slowly sank. The duo followed, with Nabi holding her breath and securing Nico's pokeball in one hand.[break][break]

Only seconds had passed, but time felt so much longer in the midst of Kyogre's rampage. When Nabi and Bruno resurfaced, she tried to relocate herself and find Josh. He was right—they had to retreat.[break][break]

Bruno kicked his strong arms and feet to carry them back to Josh's side. Over the rain's unending torrent, the sound of Kyogre's ORIGIN PULSE echoed.[break][break]

"Dive!" Nabi shouted when the attack launched into the air. The water, while doing everything in its power to destroy them, was also their temporary safe haven. She hoped Josh would not come out of this with more injuries.[break][break]

"Ok, ok, let's go! Are you ok?" she screamed at him when she broke through the water again.

An audible groan came from Nabi as she adjusted herself over the person she had fallen onto. "Dammit," she uttered. The buneary had successfully escaped.[break][break]

Introductions were due, seeing as how she had collided into the man, and he had so gracefully caught her (albeit probably by accident). Nabi looked down at him, arms keeping her hovered above, and said, "Sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going." She pushed off the ground to heave back onto her feet.[break][break]

"Nice to meet you, I guess? I'm Nabi." Her arm extended to help him up as well.[break][break]

Their conversation would be cut short when two pokemon suddenly broke through the line of trees and called out to the both of them in aggressive tones, clearly agitated. Over what, Nabi did not know.[break][break]

"Whoa, ok, let's just calm down now," she tried saying to them. The trumbeak's beak glowed in preparation for a PECK attack.[break][break]

Without delay, Nabi reached for a pokeball and sent it flying. A gallant-looking manectric appeared, immediately growling on the scene.[break][break]

"Arthur, use QUICK ATTACK, then THUNDER FANG!"[break][break]

The manectric sprinted off into a bolt, swiftly dodging out of the trumbeak's way. He turned on his heel, facing the back of the trumbeak now, and rushed in once more, sharpened teeth lighting with raw electricity. One bite at the tailfeathers of the bird was more than enough to send it flying back into the trees.[break][break]

Meanwhile, the wild kadabra had seemed to focus its attacks on the black-haired man beside her.

Finally, when they came to a stopping point, Nabi fell to the ground to catch her breath, and in the midst of her gasping, she couldn't help but laugh along with Cian. "To be fair, I've never been a good girl," she retorted with a cheesy grin. At least, that's what all the adults said. Bad girls like Nabi didn't go around stealing and getting herself into fistfights. She liked to think she was a little better now.[break][break]

"I'm sure there's a journalist out there that would love to report that the Rustboro Gym Leader is meddling with thievery," she teased. She lowered her voice as her breathing steadied and her chest wasn't heaving as much. "Here."[break][break]

She tossed him one of the plushies—the treecko—and said, "A reward for all your work. You can keep that one."

The smile on Nabi's face widened hearing Yumi's response. It was reassuring to hear the woman she most respected give her the green light, even if she didn't require it. Nabi grabbed for another roll and quickly chomped through it, leaving bits of flakes on the tablecloth.[break][break]

"I guess I can at least try it out, part-time, like you said," she spoke while licking at oily fingertips. "And if it turns out I don't like it, then no harm in quitting." Low commitment appealed to Nabi. It would be easier to cut ties if it came to that.[break][break]

"I'd be happy to tell you about the job if anything interesting comes up," she then said. She hummed, trying to recall if anything newsworthy had happened to her recently. "I actually met Remiel Calcifet not too long ago. We were working together on a mission. He seemed..." She thought about the word. "Wise? Maybe not wise. That's for old people, I guess."[break][break]

At that moment, a new scent entered the room, and the server made his way to their table with the main course. Nabi's eyes sparkled with hungry anticipation.

A determined Nabi raced through the fields of Route 116 with a one-track mind. Moments ago, she could have sworn she saw a wild buneary. Its cute fluffy coat, the floppy ear, its chocolate brown fur—Nabi had to have it![break][break]

But the buneary made quick work of her, hopping away almost immediately at the sight of the trainer. Nabi pursued, ignoring the scrapes of twigs and bushes against her skin as she followed after the little bunny. But at some point, she had lost sight of it, and she could no longer pick up its tracks.[break][break]

Nabi cursed to herself, continuing on her venture in the hopes of running into it still. It couldn't be far![break][break]

She ran through a length of trees and shrubs, expecting to go find an opening or pathway, but instead, she was met with the beginnings of a hill. Not a terribly high one, but a hill nonetheless.[break][break]

Screaming, Nabi slipped down the hill and straight into the body of another human being—WHAM!
