[attr="class","monty"]At the request to meet with him, Montgomery wandered to the bar where he'd first met Navy. A number of weeks had gone by since he had an actual discussion with the sheriff, not to mention a brief couple of days in May that he'd seemingly vanished without a trace.

With the oncoming war looming over head, he needed to ensure the details of Dewford and Hoenn's safety, as well as ask Navy what happened.

There were rumors throughout the League channels of the sheriff encountering a beast of legend: ZACIAN. If that were true, Montgomery wondered what her presence would bring to the department or if they'd regard her in any way.

It was too much for one mind to handle.

Entering the bar, Montgomery slipped into the seat he'd sat in when Navy had hired him, waiting for the sheriff to show. His foot tapped the floor, seemingly anxious, as he waited for him.

[attr="class","monty"]The police station had been notified of a missing person in Petalburg moments ago. That meant that a search party needed to be formed immediately.

And who better to send than a deputy from Dewford?

Montgomery didn't shy away from cases like these, armed with his trusted gun at his hip and a few Poke balls at his side holding his Pokemon. He had been notified that his search partner for the case was Josh Devlin, Mauville's gym leader.

He was curious why a gym leader would take part, until they informed him of the speed of the trainer's Pokemon and their enhancement of the search party. Therefore, he didn't argue, instead turning up to the meeting point and spotting the leader there atop one of his Pokemon.

"Mornin'. You Devlin?"

After all, that was the innocence that he had lost a long time ago. It was an innocence he mourned.

Montgomery looked back at the sheriff, giving him a laugh and offering him his hand. "I don't back down from a challenge, sir. I told ya I'd do it. So put my name down on yer schedule, and I'll report for duty."

There was a pause, before he said seriously: "thank you for givin' me a chance."

He hoped that this was what it took for him to redeem himself from his misgivings.

[attr="class","monty"]For Montgomery, time seemed to slow down. Seconds became minutes, minutes became hours. The bullet traveled through the air, inching closer and closer to the Rocket grunt and Jethro Haig. And all he could do was stand and watch.

Montgomery wasn't a praying man. But he said a silent prayer to whatever gods existed to not become Jethro's killer today.

It seemed that they heard him, as there was a jerk back of the head and a collapse. He didn't realize he had been holding his breath, his head dizzy as he looked back to the former Ranger. He seemed unscathed.

"You motherfucker. You do somethin' like that again, and I... I'll..."

Montgomery fell over, his vision blurry.

[attr="class","monty"]The girl Montgomery had noticed moments ago was riding closer to him on the back of a WYRDEER, urging him to continue forward. It seemed that she also noticed the changes in the energy around them — and she at least had some idea of what was going on.

She told him to keep going. That gave him excuse enough to believe that perhaps whatever was happening wasn't safe.

He felt static in the air, some sort of electricity that he had never felt in his life. Montgomery didn't dare to look behind him, urging his long legs to continue going. But the energy he had was being sapped second by second that he remained in the quickly closing circle.

"Damn it, damn it! Keep goin'!"

His body met resistance. The dome had closed. He and this girl were stuck in ever changing space and time. Finally, he turned, looking behind him and seeing darkened skies and what almost appeared to be stars above.

"What is this?"

Montgomery crossed his arms as they began their ferry over the water. However, something felt strange to him. As the River Styx brought the souls of the dead to the underworld, this felt like he was leaving his current life to go somewhere he didn't belong.

Hell, none of these places were supposed to exist. He didn't know about them until Navy brought him to Ultra Sea.

The land on the other side approached. Soon, they docked the ferry, and Montgomery offered PETRA MONROE his hand to help her down to the shore. "Do you know which way?"

[attr="class","monty"]Montgomery offered a chuckle, placing his hands on his hips. Was she making a joke about his height? He had to think she was, considering how tall SKY PILLAR was. He could only guess that perhaps SHALOUR CITY was unique in that feature as well.

"I like someone with a sense of humor."

The cigarette she held between her fingers was a temptation to pull one out himself. He refrained, for the moment. "I'm just patrolling. Makin' sure things aren't out of line... Deputy Montgomery James, miss. Pleasure."

A rustle in the grass caught his attention, a couple of hands popping from the top. The AMBIPOM leaped forward, attempting to climb the DURALUDON despite its slick surface. The dragon reached around, striking it with HONED CLAWS as Montgomery tossed an empty ball.

Not to mention, evolving him later would be a huge benefit.

"Today? Nothin' much. In the past? I mean... I've gotten shot, if that counts," he offered with a gruff chuckle. Though he decided to leave out the strange encounters he kept having with one particular woman.

A RUNERIGUS blocked the path, stone face waving as it groaned. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye as she took a picture of it, seemingly unphased by its presence, all while he decided to throw an empty ball at it. "They can be dangerous, though, huh? And ya collect em?"

Was she a psycho?

"Ghosts. I say that ya gotta respect em or else yer in for a hell of a time, ya get me?"

[attr="class","monty"]The outskirts of Slateport was a hub of potential criminal activity. Montgomery had been sent out to patrol the area, ensuring the safety of the nearby districts.

So far, it was dead.

He didn't want to say quiet. After all, you never said the "q" word on a shift, given it was a proven fact to jynx your luck and bring about chaos and a future headache. Though, he couldn't help but wonder if someone at command had said that forsaken word.

The energy felt off. Yet, there was no activity to be seen. "James, reporting in. Area seems clear. I'm going to-"

His radio began to squeal, hurting his ears and cutting him off from the station. Their replies were chopping until the signal went silent. Montgomery felt that energy grow heavier.

He had to leave.

As he was rushing to exit the outskirts, he found another individual nearby. "Hey! This place seems dangerous. Ya better head out!"
