With widened eyes, the young student watches what follows her curious little outreach of the tiny Skarmory, how it illuminates in most wondrous colours that she hasn't quite witnessed before. A surge of something that she cannot describe, and then, it's all on her own shoulder. Looking at the sheriff for help - or confirmation - or both, her mouth does fall a bit agape, just as she carefully reaches out to pet the other even further. At least she is fairly accustomed to having someone on her shoulder, for it would normally be the Grookey's place, but she doesn't want him to witness the sadness of the scenery this time.[break]

"He did ... even as he complains about it all the time, too, living in - err - unprecedented times, or something," Vespa rolls her eyes, unable to talk smack about her parent, even as there is a certain kind of care that shines through. In the end, he isn't the worst father to have, and she isn't the worst daughter, either. Or that's what she is telling herself every day.[break]

Going to 'help' the Falinks and the Machamp in the work of clearing the surrounding areas of debris and hubris, she carefully squats down, so as to not disturb the steel bird on her shoulder, and looks carefully back when Navy speaks up about his past and Galar. She isn't quite able to hold back a snort when he gives her something like martial arts advice and though she has nothing but his word for it, she makes a note of it - perhaps it'll come in handy some time. "Yeah? I should keep that in mind, I've never really thought about that stuff, but I guess ... doesn't hurt to know a thing or two," she lets out with somewhat of a light-hearted hum, though perhaps, she should actually. Even now, it's difficult to speak of 'peaceful' when sceneries as now exist, and ... hum. "What, even better than Hoenn? Aren't we rooting for our home champions?" Vespa throws back with an amused grin, though it does make her wonder - who are the people that this person, that she is already respecting quite so, is speaking so highly of?[break]

In the corner of her eyes, something ... seems to be flashing, but blink and it's gone. Perhaps she has imagined things ... or not?

WHISPERS OF THE WITCHING HOUR [EVENT]

Once she heard about it first, it has seemed intriguing - especially the part about the Ghost types wandering around, some whispers and tales of eerie disappearances surrounding the mansion ... One would assume that there is less inclination to enter such a place, but Vespa is beyond thrilled about such an aspect. What if someone fakes their death in these mysterious halls? She should be on guard, and on her best behaviour. It also includes being decently dressed for the occasion, which she somehow managed to do with the help of Cassandra Kubrick, even as she keeps scratching at the layer of make-up she is wearing. Urff ... being a girl is so demanding, for real. But she feels kind of nice in this dress, with her hair brushed nicely, so that's ... nice?[break]
[break]
What's even nicer are the Chandelure that is greating her, eliciting a small squeal from the Wooper-masked young student who is entering alongside Cassandra Kubrick and Thea Naito, though is quickly lost in chatter with the a snickering Gengar that she spots next, following it to the buffet easily enough. There seems to be ... something going on with one half of the buffet, so Vespa tries not to intrude on anyone's good time or bad time, or both, only having an eye for the exquisite treats. Ah ... wait, did she already lose her friends? But watching as the Misdreavus also is eyeing the treats with a glimmer in her eyes, she forgets just as quickly about it. How can she say no to free food, after all?

TL;DR

- Vespa wears a Wooper mask and a mintgreen dress, and she is accompanied by her partner Quinn Crisp the Misdreavus who wears a Grookey mask.[break]
- She is by the buffet, her and Misdreavus making out if there are any ice cream treats.

To be honest, her ventures are taking her to weirder and weirder places yet, all the time, every time, basically - coming down from a weird trip on a hot, fiery mountain, down to this ... very cold place, she can only be glad that she actually dressed for the occasion, stuffing herself into the thickest jacket she could find at home and off she goes. Since her best friend Cassandra Kubrick is playing hide-and-seek of sorts (without actually wanting to be sought after) (and as she is not faking her death), Vespa has a little less than usual to do, so ... going around and see how she can improve her own strength and such it is.[break]

Even as, she is noticing, the Silence Icelands are a very strange place to start such a training with. Nonetheless, she is seeing things through with the stubbornness off a teenager who dislikes nothing more than being proven wrong, and only the lone cackle of the Misdreavus is to audible over the chilling winds of the planes. Until - another voice joins the eerie chorus, sounding strangely human. She looks over to one Quinn Crisp who floats upside down, snickering, "ey, are you imitating humans now-?" But then, she notices the figure in the distance. Curious - and maybe against her better judgement -, she approaches, head tilted as she squints.[break]

There is a puff to her cheeks as she hears his answer - one that she can resonate in sentiment, too, considering how she'd like to be buried in these lands, too (or, nah, probably more like an ashen burial to the sea or the forests), but there is yet something starkly bewildering, not to say damning about those words in the context they stand here now, all grim and rubble. It makes Vespa frown in the next moment, expressions changing as honestly as her face allows, each expressing the current thought as much as it can. "Yeah ... hopefully 'cause me, too - dying here, one day, with enough years to pass," she remarks in turn at last, though there is still something conflicted on her mind. Her challenge to him - for him to answer all questions she might have had, once she could defeat him in a Pokémon battle - it all falls on more sombre shoulders now, and she isn't quite knowing whether or not she's ready to face whatever reality actually has in store her for.[break]

As a distraction more than anything, she looks at the Skarmory on his shoulder, extending a finger - slowly, carefully, trying to give it a bop on the head if the Pokémon would allow it, just as Navy speaks up again, accentuated with the Infernape's smashing of debris as the Falinks Squad are nodding at him with gratitude before scurrying off to their tasks, working in unison as they always do.[break]
[break]
All this talk makes Vespa restless, too, so she soon finds herself walking off the side, gripping some of the things and sort them to the side, still in earshot of Navy - something conflicted glimpsing on his face - disbelief, agreement - before it vanishes into a smirk. "You? An athlete? What kinda sport would'a do?" It seems like an odd topic to breach when never seems content with leaving, but the young student has always been good at escaping reality. Huffing as she works on stacking some broken-off wall bricks by size, creating some sort of tower, she hums, "well, he's actually a historian, talks with his books and the people in it like they're real and stuff," a snicker escapes her - then a shudder, "it's a little strange sometimes. But he's growing all sorts of things, mostly edible stuff. Sun - my partner, the Grookey - is also helping in the garden." (As much as 'helping' can be, singing to the plants and drumming up a beat on the soil ... it works pretty good, actually.)

Unaware of what might be going on underneath all the stories untold, she doesn't quite dwell on the questions she doesn't get an answer to. There is still that assumption that one day, she might be able to ask away as much as she wants to, once she got stronger ... once ... once ... If. Thoughts that find place in her subconsciousness, though she brushes them off of her active mind, determination flaring up yet again in the present. "Yeah! Anything," Vespa is quick to confirm as Navy comes up with something to give her to do, just anything for this restless moment that she has nothing to hold on to. Surveying the surroundings? Easy enough, and ...[break]
[break]
She is quick to release the Falinks Squad from their pokéball, ready to follow and to lead as usual as she repeats their task to them, "let's observe the surroundings for now, report anything unusual and-or help where you can, and I'm right with you, guys!" She gives them a little bit of a salute - a determined nod, as they return knowing nods, too, walking off and sticking together as she notices a new Pokémon has made its way to the other's shoulder. "That's a - cute one," slips past her lips before she can fully think about them, but it is about the size of the Grookey, it is cutely sized.[break]
[break]
"Huh? Yeah - my dad is, anyway. We moved to Slateport because of my school and his work, and think we stay. Don't think he can abandon his garden," she remarks to the other, a lopsided smirk on her face as she thinks about how dedicated her father is to the things he's growing. It would be devastating if ever a time comes ... If this ... She looks around, scurrying off sometimes to see if she can help herself, or navigate the Falinks towards an obstacle, rubble, debris. Looking at a debris rather than at Navy, a quieter voice asks, unsure, "... are you gonna leave one day?"

The brass is only getting into the spirit when they halt, and with them all the troopers, looking curiously at their newest recruit. "Permission granted!" their voice booms, waiting to see what the Cutiefly has to say - and with surprise flaking over their face, they are quick to recover with a decisive nod. How naive! How arrogant of them to have assumed! Though repeating the steps example would have been easy enough, they acknowledge that possibly, 'steps' is a little bit of a stretch here.[break]

"I see you, and I appreciate you, lad!" they nod, as do all troopers as realisation hits them, too, "Let's review the second part and adjust it to make it most-suited for everyone. Remember! Speak up now if something is difficult, there is no shame in revising or repeating our training - in a real battle, we cannot do that anymore!" Looking to see if any of the troopers have anything to say, the brass then repeats the whole ordeal, just a little differently.[break]

Arguably following her onslaught of questions, there is a lengthy answer - lengthy answers to follow. With how nosy Vespa proves to be at any given time, most of the time, one should expect that her computational power should be able to keep up with what she is inquiring about, but truth be told ... She always kind of sucked at this whole shenanigan. That's one part of the reason why she isn't typically doing that well in school despite the fact, though she is trying very hard to listen and comprehend in this very moment, nodding every once in a while and trying not to get too distracted by the free-roaming Grookey, Sun attempting to make as many friends as he can see.[break]
[break]
Luckily, it doesn't proves to be the hardest endeavour to get the gist as her curiosity and interest are pretty much piqued. She doubts that she will ever get one herself, or not in the very near future, but ... still, there seems to be a sparkle in her eyes igniting. "That ... uhm, kinda sounds like a Magical Girl kinda thing? Does that describe that? But - uh - is it hard to get one? Or, err, dunno how to ask this ..." she scratches the back of her head, a little at a loss for words. It feels greedy to ask, though she also just really is intrigued by this whole thing. It seems like one way to get stronger, and she would love to cherish a bond as deep as Shalin is displaying. "-That's so cool!"[break]

Before she can fully get hyperfixated on this one thing, however, there is a shift that she simply cannot overlook with the many Pokémon around, all larger than she learnt or knew or expected. Space time distortions ... oh, right. "I think I heard of them ... and stuff that is happening in Hoenn, generally," she nods, her mouth forming an O kind of shape. "Make sense!"

Flying - riding a flying Pokémon - was quite a fascinating thought, a thrilling kind of feeling. Before she gets lost in her own thoughts about it, however, she decides to just immerse herself in this very moment, letting go as she lets out a "WOOOOO!" against the wind current.[break]

It almost makes her miss Josh's word, but as she looks over to him in question, she has to stop for a moment - oh ... well, that's quite unexpected, though it's probably not a surprise per se. War is a ... cruel thing, to say the least. She gives him as nod as they navigate towards the Sky Pillar, landing in lofty heights, but it is easier to speak here than amidst the storming winds. "Ah ... my condolences," Vespa finally manages to say, scratching the back of her head, "so ... I'll ... uh, I'll keep an eye out for one." Arceus, is she bad at this whole consolation thing. Not that her family would be much better, to be honest ...

She doesn't question her best friend's vague allusions to ... something. But she does raise an eyebrow in questioning before shrugging it off, simple as that, "sure, tell me when you want." At least she can be sure that she'll be told one day, right? And that is good enough for now - besides, the whole scenario they are confronted with are kind of mind-boogling, too, so it's not like she has that much energy or thoughts left to spare to think about whatever Cassandra might be thinking.[break]

"Anything is good for a presentation," Vespa is quite convinced - there only has to be the right audience, even if 'no audience' is also an audience in her eyes, "if Professor Marble disagrees, then I'll just do it anyway." And she shall get to it for sure ... heh. Now she can't wait to get out of here to work on some slides.[break]

... And when she sees how a brother and a Legendary Pokémon is killed, she really wants out of here. The stone isn't like a gemstone - not a ruby, but rather bursting with truth, as strange as it sounds. It makes her shiver. "For real, bro ... that was just so weird, why would you do that-" She shakes her head, masking terror with something more light-hearted. But this is just a simulation ... did that really happen, though?

Vespa's mind is going millions of thoughts at once - its normal speed already impressive as she draws lines that nobody else seems to be connecting, but there is still a strange kind of thrill. A lunge of her heart that feels as if this is only the beginning of something deeper - darker, even. But there is little time left to fully think about what just happened as she turns to Cassandra and the rest of the crew that prepare to retreat. "Yeah ... gotta work a little harder," she returns the remark with one of her typical smirks. Is it a thing to celebrate? Maybe. Maybe quite so. They got out alive, is all.[break]

The Falinks troopers and brass are spreading out to aid where they can, individually or together, as she also sees where more hands are needed. Before she fully immerses herself in that, however, she has a lurk at Pic's art, some of her favourite kind of arts. It's always so ... expressive. Nodding as if she fully understands (she does not), she applauds the Smeargle for his art. "Yeah ... Yeah, I can see the vision. That's everyone using Protect, right? And this ... ah, marvellous how you captured everyone's fighting spirit. I also like the detail you added to the Squad," she points at various details that make no sense, but she seems to have a gift for guessing correctly - or at least, the Smeargle normally seems more spirited than before either or way.[break]
