In a way, Morrighan watches the situation unfold in front of her like an intriguing play, even as it is old as time - still ... It's almost irony, or a testimony to how far her selfish subtlety has come, that it isn't her to take the role of not 'fitting right in', pursuing her own ideals and thoughts and ideas and stubborn quarrels. In that sense, she feels a certain familiarity within the petulant words of Lavinia Kubrick, though sympathy isn't exactly an emotion she feels in this moment. Perhaps more ... pity, but she doesn't show it outwards, assuming - knowing that pity is the last thing she would want to see.[break]
[break]
In fact, she does not do much at all, only keeping an eye on the environment - swiftly stepping back when Montgomery James places a bomb and disappears in the smoke. In the end, she doesn't quite have words to offer to the youngest, only remarking a "I'll follow for now, and we may see where it leads to," so she leaves it to Yuina Higashi to hopefully get through the thick skull of the teenager as she goes after Montgomery James instead, the Chatot flying close to her through the smoke as the Magearna remains by the younger two's side. Quietly trailing behind at a slower pace as her eyes wander over their environments, the loud noises making her more wary of what may be about to come.

As they come to a halt, observation is all they can do in this moment - their surroundings that are clouded in fog and mist, concealing secrets that none should be wiser of, and yet trapping them in this elaborate scheme, as if the only way out is to find what lies at the very heart of it. Perhaps, it could be considered a kind of heroes' journey, too, or ... simple the basic outlines of a horror movie. Something happens, and something worse follows.[break]
[break]
Whichever it may be, though, Morrighan wonders where it may end.[break]
[break]
Noticing the noticeable distress in the other's voice, she tries to offer a reassuring smile as her eyes wander around. A part of her wants to split, actually, have each walk into opposite directions, to see if they were to reconvene at the same point ... but if that wouldn't be the case, then each of them would be alone in this forest of myths and rituals. "It seems so," she remarks in turn as any kind of communication to the 'outside' world seems to have died down.[break]

"How about it? I'll send Calendula to fly back, see if she meets us at ... quite the same place again, and we can investigate this specific place further? It does seem like it might be key to ..." she then begins to strategise, think of some kind of plan to provide, though the story collector is quite unable to fill in the last gap, ending only a somewhat unsure "... something" herself. Perhaps the thing behind this loop. Perhaps the dark rituals mentioned. Perhaps some entire other mystery.

Morrighan cannot quite judge whether this question comes from a place of knowing how - petulant if innocent in their nagging children could be, or whether she rather is unaware of a child's sentiment about their favourite toy. It has been a little bit of a fight to get the young one to bed that evening, unable - or rather unwilling? - to sleep without their favourite plushie, only somewhat soothed by the replacement provided by Morrighan. In either one case, however, she can't fault her for not quite knowing why it has to be now, considering how niche yet intriguing the story provided seems to be.[break]
[break]
"It's a curious story, if you would like to listen," she hums in turn to the other, "and the witch's appearance is ... linked to the night in some way, one could say?" She hasn't yet grasped the entirety of the story, but she is willing to indulge it for the sake of it, anyway. It is, however, a first that she is actually tracing those steps herself ...[break]

Now, still quite unsure whether or not the other would tag along, she is turning towards the road that leads further into the forests surrounding Oldale Town, though there is a pondering glint in her eyes as she looks back to her, "I shall be on my way, however. The night only lasts for as long."

If she notices his relief, she makes no verbal note of it - perhaps only in her head, wondering how company could - in even the loosest sense of the word - comfort someone, but strangely enough, over all the time she has spent in Hoenn now, she feels something akin wake from its long-forgotten slumber, too, something that makes other people seem ... less like a burden.[break]
[break]
For a brief moment, she wonders how she would react, would perceive this absurd of a thought - but the shadows of her past are behind her, for so, so long ...[break]
[break]
And this is not there. She will not be consumed by her own mind in this obscure - obscured place, of all things.[break]
[break]
"Quite so ..." she remarks in turn to Nick's words of caution, her own eyes wandering from one to the other - feeling like there are eyes on them, but perhaps, there isn't. Still, she feels how leaves are rustling here and there and she wonders about the fairytales that children tend to tell. However, cases of dark rituals aren't always present in their retellings, but that doesn't mean that there wouldn't be something like that around ... As the fog thickens, so do her steps slow down until she comes to a halt completely, reacting both to the other's flashlight and the markings on the trees that grow more and more intricate. And yet-[break]

"Do you - perhaps - think that the markings look familiar?" she speaks aloud, her usually composed voice quivering a little in face of what she thinks. Perhaps, her mind is playing tricks, too, but perhaps ... "Have we been running in circles? Are we ... trapped?"

There was somewhat of an ambiguous smile on the story collector's face upon hearing the words of Yuina Higashi and Montgomery James, somewhat of a contrast to one another, and yet, they all simply have one goal: get as far as they can while staying alive, as much as they can. Make it out alive would be preferable, of course, though she wonders how such things would fare in the long run, with how things are starting. But perhaps ... they can make it just fine.[break]

Yuina's idea is a welcome one amidst the uncertainty that lingers in the air amidst the toxins that spread into each of their nervous systems, whether mentally or physically or in any one way, and she brings out a second Pokéball amidst the Magearna, releasing her most trusted partner, a Chatot, that lands idly on her shoulder.[break]
[break]

She does not quite have a Pokémon of such nature as described, however ... Morrighan points to one of the Pokémon of the two that already used the move, "would you be so kind?" Without further ado, the Chatot is Mimicing the move, Absorbing in the form of a melodious melody. It's not quite the way the others did it, but she already feels her senses clear up.[break]

"How about we scout ahead a little first?" she thusly remarks to Montgomery James, gesturing for the way ahead. Of course, they cannot go too far, though hopefully, this suggestion would be enough to quench the antsy feeling if for a little bit, while leaving some room for Lavinia Kubrick to recover a bit more of her health.

Morrighan hasn't expected to be stopped, though she wouldn't say that she is entirely surprised about it, either - after all, valid concerns are to be made about the current situations of things, though there is still a contemplative look on her face as she musters the young ranger, accompanied by her Ampharos. By her own side, the Chatot is sitting on her shoulder, mirroring her own look as she ponders. However ... soon, her face morphs into a gentle smile, too, as she nods towards the other in greeting. "Greetings," the story collector begins, "that is my intention indeed. I'm - aware of the dangers there may be, however ... I promised a child to bring back the plushie he displaced. I won't be long."[break]
[break]
Or, that's what she is aiming to do, anyway - she would definitely not place herself into the face of lethal danger for another, but she does have a soft spot for children, for their imagination and creativity, and for the infinite universes inside of their heads. It's no comparison to the dull minds of many adults, working away, having lost all the spark in their life.[break]
[break]
She is just to be on her way, but something invites her to linger - perhaps wonder, even, if this stranger would aid her in this quest, as she hums, "say, have you ever heard of the 'Thousand-Eyed Witch'?"

There is an eerie calm when Morrighan listens to Montgomery's remark, agreeing with the general terminus yet disagreeing with the words chosen to form that thought, and to Yuina's explanation, making sense of what she has not considered before, considering how less-versed she is in the matters of energy and physics, dynergy much less. It's an interesting thought, though, a scientific matter-of-fact that she nods and swiftly notes down in stride. If she has learnt nothing of those bygone years, she at least knows how to handle taking notes in her worn-out notebook, even while the world is burning - or oozing away - around her.[break]
[break]
Still, she is careful of her environment, breathes levelled and slow on purpose to avoid the poisonous substances lingering in the air and all around them - though before she can say much else, the youngest of their group falls, quite literally.[break]
[break]
Carefully, she brings out a Magearna coloured in blue and silver tones opposed to the faded rosegold of age, largely unaffected by the poisonous nature of their environment. Morrighan gives it a quiet nod as the Magearna approaches Lavinia Kubrick carefully, trying to give Yuina Higashi a Helping Hand in the aid she is administering, whether or not it would actually prove successful, given the nature of their circumstances.[break]
[break]
Still ... this is the most she can do. Instead, she approaches Montgomery James with a curious look as he observes an obstacle in their way. "So ... we should be able to get through with some force, is what I hear?" she muses, having to take a step back from the concentrated poison that still lingers in the wall. She shakes her head, though it only helps so much in shaking off this dreadful sense of losing control over her limbs, slowly ... "The poison ..." she mutters, more to herself than not. It's proving to be quite the obstacle, but her experience with such things do not extend beyond that which can poison a mind, rather than the body.

It's ... it's so dark ...[break]

It's too difficult to see - too difficult to breathe, actually, as she feels suffocated by the world, coming into existence for as it seems, no particular reason - only feeling emotions too difficult to understand, too difficult to grasp, left only with nothing that she can get a hold of as she sobs to herself, small hands barely able to cover her face as she cries.[break]
[break]
The soil breaks underneath her, and muddying the pristinely white dress she is wearing - staining the white hair, brown patches amidst the blue streaks as she only tries to stand, bare foot and so alone.[break]
[break]
So very alone.[break]
[break]
Is this how the world is going to be? But this is so ... unfair. Everything seems to connect around her, but just - just not her. This - this is so unfair! She breaks out sobbing again, steps leading her anywhere but where she awakened - just away, away, away ...[break]
[break]
Until she is able to make out a figure - robed in black, she is hard to see, but there is something about her white hair that draws her closer, and closer ... Sobbing still, the young girl breaks out, "w-will - can ... c-can you help me? I'm - I don't know where I am-" Stronger yet, her voice breaks watery, into tears, "I don't know what to do-"[break]
[break]
The voices are so much, so - so much ... The song too terrifying, the song too persistent as the counter strikes, three.

Who thought to wander in the night might be a wise decision? But it happened so often in this month alone, Morrighan almost feels herself accustomed to the darkness that engulfs her, with only so much light to guide her. Yet, she should be careful, for this trek seems to be fairly steep - a shortcut from Mt. Pyre down to Mauville City where she intends to rest, though it seems that her plans should have needed more careful planning than a fancy on a whim.[break]
[break]
But here she is, and here they go. A dark robe conceals her normally-pompous, elegant clothing that seems to be from ages of old as her white-blue hair catches onto the moonlight's rays, solitude accompanied by another, for as the moon shines bright, she finds little comfort in the stars that are outshone by the luminescent brilliance in the sky. But ... in a way, that is what she is more familiar with, too.[break]
[break]
A sole companion, for a sole companion.[break]
[break]
Morrighan exhales into the frosting air, small clouds of white mist forming right in front of her as she is careful to take one step after the other, not to be hasty when it comes to the descent. Yet ... caution might be the last thing to worry about as she sees a ghostly figure in the distance, glowing brightly - throwing her right back to when she witnessed beast-shaped violence burst into light, but this looks much more ... gentle, almost. Lost.[break]

A ... a child?[break]
[break]
And she halts, words lost as a ghastly song awakens in the sky, darkness descending in discordant tones. The counter strikes, four.

It all starts with a child's cry.[break]

She hasn't intended to stay in Oldale Town for as long as she did, but she figures there is a kind of charm to it that makes her linger, the kind of stories she gets to hear in such a place - not unlike Littleroot Town in that manner, but still with its own distinct things to be told. Such as the one that she gets to hear from aforementioned child, a young boy who lost his plushie to what she believes to have understood as 'the Thousand-Eyed Witch', which had been part of a couple of stories that this family in particular seems to be narrating to prevent their children from venturing forth too deep, too far, especially near dangerous patches of water and high places. The boy seems utterly convinced that his plushie has been abducted by such a creature, and ... well, since she's already here, she might as well indulge his fantasies, gently offering her help.[break]
[break]
Normally, one would think that the town population struggles more with the Mightyenas and Poochyenas around, but ... she figures a child's sorrow is nothing compared to whatever else there may be lurking that could attack such a delicate soul.[break]
[break]
She also did give up her own plushie-of-her-own-likeness, Étoile, to the distressed boy in order to calm him down, so ... "Guess we better find Mr. Tubbles if we want to see our companion back, hm?" she hums to the Chatot on her shoulder as they set out.[break]

It seems that those rumours are finding more footing than one would expect for such a thing as dark rituals, but such are the times that are upon them - especially in this strange month of floating ghosts and ever-growing darkness, whispers tend to spread further than a scream may do any other time. "I see ..." she hums, approaching to have a closer look at the markings that Nicholas is eyeing, too, clearly speaking of an old, old language. "Could be related to Pokémon rather than humans, perhaps ... that would be quite an interesting discovery," she remarks further, her tone both intrigued and hesitant. After all, why would there be such a need for wild ones? Or perhaps there is truly more than meets the eye ... and perhaps, she is thinking too much like a human to get behind this in a single thought.[break]
[break]
There is much to unravel, and she does definitely not think about stopping just here.[break]
[break]
"Of course, I'd like to," she replies in turn with a smile to his inquiry - if she notices any unease off the other, she certainly does not comment on it. And any one way, emotions reliant on facial features to be expressed are difficult to discern when the night is upon them, when fog is whistling around, white smoke lingering as Morrighan takes a first step towards the unknown. "Now, I think ... the marks are leading this way."

Morrighan has never fathomed herself much as an adventurer. There are the adventurers, after all, and the chroniclers - the bards, the artists, the journalists that sing songs of their deeds and wondrous happenings. And yet, here she goes, finding herself in a group with three other people she has not met before, though a strange sense of imminent trust is palpable as they enter Granite Cave together - the Ultra Deep Sea.
