Aisling’s heart raced as the massive form of a wild Golisopod emerged from the shadows of the trees, its armored body gleaming under the dappled sunlight. The Pokémon let out a low, threatening hiss, its claws clicking menacingly as it sized up its opponent. Without missing a beat, Aisling reached for the Pokéball clipped to her belt, her fingers brushing against the cool, metallic surface as she plucked it free.

“You're mine, fucker!” She called out. With a swift, practiced motion, she drew her arm back and then hurled the Pokéball forward.

Finally, there was a brief respite from the chaos. The Mareep, looking bewildered, huddled together into a tight flock. The confused expressions on their faces were enough to make Aisling chuckle softly.

She shrugged in response to the teen's question. "Just disables their most recent move." She walked over to Ninetales and ran her fingers through the pokemon's pleasantly cool fur. Ninetales looked smugly at Tropius.

Unsure how to handle the teenager's gratitude, Aisling shrugged again, watching as they shocked themselves. He definitely seemed like he'd needed help.

"No offence, but I don't really care kid." She finally answered, not impressed with the teenager's attempt justify his 'flying'. "Just control your flock next time. Why do you have so many Mareep anyway?" She paused, crossing her arms.

"Mmkay." Aisling quirked an eyebrow, surprised by Howard’s respect for principles. It seemed like he was a man of honour – something that she found difficult to relate to. She was too jaded from life to hold the same sort of esteem. She shrugged again. She had no real emotional investment in Team Rocket. To her, it was simply a means to an end.

Of course, it would be beneficial for them to take over Petalburg, if only because it would make life easier. But in the case where there was a superior faction… let’s just say that Aisling’s loyalties go to the highest bidder.

Aisling shrugged. "And I assume I’d be one of the lucky people who help them to their feet?" The thought of assisting her once-enemies irked her. It was a dog eat dog world out there. Sink or swim. She didn’t have much in the way of charity.

Her bitterness was broken when Howard complained suddenly. Confusion briefly flickered on her face, followed by a patronising sympathy. "It’s ok, Howard." She began. "Think of a computer like a kettle. It won’t boil if you look at it. It makes the computer shy."

"Leave the technology to the expert." She patted Howard on the shoulder as a proud mother would with her child.

Again Aisling plunged into the cool waters, the sunlight filtering through the surface as she descended into the depths. Her movements were calm and controlled, her gaze sharp as she searched the seabed for the telltale glint of a Clamperl's shell. Finally, she spotted a Clamperl nestled within a cluster of rocks, its shell slightly ajar.

Stowing the pearl in a large bag, Aisling snorted in response to Absinthe's comment on the intelligence of poachers. She was beginning to like this woman. Something about the blunt no-nonsense attitude that was rather attractive to someone as apathetic as Aisling.

She took an armful of the aluminium balls and began tossing them into the meadow. Ninetales would then retrieve the dropped pearls as though it was playing fetch. Together. Abby and Aisling forked out in separate directions, making steady progress until Aisling heard Abby swear.

A Grumpig was advancing upon her companion. Immediately, Aisling retrieved her other pokeball, releasing Flareon as well. The Grumpig was yet to charge, but Aisling was unwilling for it to make the first move. Heaving her bag over her shoulder, Aisling dashed forward, Flareon sprinting forth as well.

"Scary Face!" She called out, and Flareon leapt between Absinthe and the Grumpig. Its muzzle curled into a vicious snarl, revealing a set of white fangs.

Grumpig squealed in surprise, but its fear was shortlived as it lowered its head and began charging, aiming to ram its head in a Zen Headbutt.

As the midday sun hung high in the sky, casting a golden haze over the landscape, Aisling ambled down the narrow, winding path. Her steps were slow, almost languid, as if the journey was more a matter of routine than adventure. The lush, moss-covered trees that lined the route formed a natural canopy, their branches swaying gently with the breeze that rolled off the nearby water.

Beside her, an Ninetales walked with an ethereal grace, its snow-white fur shimmering with an almost otherworldly glow. On the other side, a Flareon padded along, its fiery orange fur contrasting starkly with the cool tones of its companion.

It seemed that someone else had the presence of mind to fight back against the Wingulls as well. Along with Ninetales’ Icy Wing, the wingull was attacked by an Ice Beam as well.

Aisling turned to see a woman, her Skitty and her Mismagius. She sniffed haughtily at the assertion that the Skitty ‘took care of the problem’, as if her Ninetales has not contributed at all.

But her irritation was short lived as more Wingull began swopping down, using Wing Attack and pulling at Ninetales’ many tails. Her pokemon began yipping in pain, jumping around and knocking over some stall crates in the process.

"Girlie, some help please?" Aisling called out. At the same time, Ninetales decided it’d had enough and unleashed a Blizzard, generating an icy storm that whirled around them all, including the Wingull, Skitty, Mismagius, and the human trainers.

When the teenager spoke, Aisling’s mood began to sour, taking offence that her effort to help not immediately met with gratitude. For one, she didn’t give two shits about ruining Mareep wool, and secondly, the Icy Wind was only meant to slow the pokemon down instead of freezing them.

There was a moment of schadenfreude when one of the Mareep sent a thunderbolt to the teen. That was quick superseded by exasperation when the Tropius began to unleash a Leaf Storm.

"So much for ‘careful’!" Aisling shouted, shielding her eyes in case the leaves got to them.

"Ninetales, use Disable!" The Pokemon yipped in acknowledgement and then turned towards Tropius. "Not at him! Use Disable on the Mareep!" The last thing she needed was a trainer battle due to a misunderstanding.

There was a flash of psychic light, followed by the confused bleat of a Mareep.

Aisling was momentarily startled by how frank Abby was. Drugs? She’d experimented in the past, but that was as a user rather than a dealer. She spared a glance at her partner again. Abby certainly didn’t appear like the type to regularly indulge in drugs. Must be involved in some money-making scheme then.

When Abby went into a crouch, Aisling let out a disappointed sigh. She was the type to go in guns blazing to get the job over and done with. It seemed her partner in crime preferred to be more subtle. Her explanation made sense though.

It was amusing when, true to Abby’s predictions, one of the Spoink bounced over, and switched its pink pearl with the aluminium ball. When it bounced away, Aisling scurried over to put up the pearl. It was heavy in her hand and shimmered with a mild iridescence. Even Aisling had to admit that it was rather beautiful.

"Surprising how easy that was. I’m surprised there aren’t more poachers around doing this." She tossed the pearl in the air and caught it with her other hand. She ended up releasing Ninetales from its pokeball. Couldn’t hurt to have extra help if it was as easy as tossing a ball. The pokemon stared at the Spoink in disinterest and then looked to Aisling.

Ninetales nudged at a large rock crusted with coral and barnacles. In the absence of being able to call for attention, it instead swished its many tails through the water, sending the current towards Aisling. Her white and black hair buffeting around her, Aisling turned around. She would’ve preferred to whip around anger, but the water made her movements sluggish. Ninetales gestured towards the rock, to which Aisling flipped over to reveal another Clamperl.

Absinthe, or ‘Abby’ as Aisling had mentally begun to dub in her mind, was gracious enough to answer her. She tilted her head to the side at the response. "'More than they are able to provide?'" She was unabashed in her questions. "What are you using them for?"

Suddenly the mental image of her partner using the pearls to play catch with her pokemon sprung to mind and Aisling bit her lip to stop an immature snicker. Maybe it was the headache that was causing her to lose her mental facilities.

A brief frown lanced across her face at the order. She didn’t appreciate being told what to do, but at the same time had no desire to take the reins and responsibility.

"Sure thang boss." She said, continuing to follow pulse of psychic energy.

It wasn’t long until they reached a meadow. The almost cartoonish sound of springing permeated through the air and there was the telltale pink glimmer of pearls. There were more Spoink than Grumpig, and they milled around the field.

Aisling quirked an eyebrow, her Flareon pokeball in hand, and looked over to Abby, waiting for the other to make the first move.
