Though there were no Water-type Pokémon that Allegra disliked per se, there were those she was indifferent towards; and Slowpoke was firmly in the latter group. Its expression might be relaxing, but she had no real interest in raising a Pokémon that wasn't beautiful or even smart.[break][break]

While Cadenza had befriended a Slowking instead, whose intelligence rivaled that of human scientists, the coordinator still wasn't exactly eager to catch it. She couldn't see herself using it in Beauty-focused contests, or anywhere else to be honest, and it would be a waste to have it lounging around when other Trainers could appreciate its genius level intellect.[break][break]

And yet, she couldn't quite bring herself to deny her Primarina a new friend either. Their relationship had never been the same after she'd given up on opera — or after opera had given up on her, as she'd told an interviewer —, and she knew that despite the affection between them Cadenza felt less important compared to Adagio. Besides, she might have a purpose for this Slowking after all; namely, to have it help with her work for Team Rocket. If nothing else, a partner Pokémon would make her persona more convincing.[break][break]

Having made up her mind, Allegra smiled at the pair and swam upwards, breaking the water's surface then heading towards the shore. In the time it took her to retrieve her bag, which she'd left in the Milotic's care, both Cadenza and the Slowking emerged as well.[break][break]

The war between Team Rocket and the League consisted of a multitude of smaller battles, to the extent that Allegra wondered whether civilians had any idea of how many self-contained wars they waged for control; not just in the physical realm but in the mental as well, in economy and intelligence and propaganda.

The shopkeeper was friendly; clearly comfortable in his line of work; and, perhaps more important than all else, if he did recognize her he made no mention of it. Allegra decided then and there that she would tip the young man generously regardless of his actual recommendations.

"Ask away," she answered with another smile, this one a tad more sincere, then took a moment to consider. She'd meant to buy a record for herself, but now that he mentioned it... She did enjoy spoiling her wife, and besides, whatever the love of her life enjoyed would likely capture her own heart in turn. "It's for my partner," she answered decisively, as though she hadn't only just settled on this.

Allegra arrives at Hollowcrest Hall with what can at best be called the fashionable sort of lateness, unaccompanied for the night. Oh, her beloved wife might well be in attendance too, but half the fun of a masquerade is in not quite knowing who you are speaking with. The other half, of course, is in the dance and the drinks. Allegra resolves to head for the latter first and loosen up before going to the ballroom. Although the atmosphere itself is already that of drunken revelry, with the distinct lack of human hosts and the feeling that things aren't quite as they seem.

Still... She's worn her share of figurative masks, but none quite so enchanting as this physical one, fashioned in ocean blues and gold. It matches her floor length, form-fitting mermaid gown in the same hues, and it is is made with artistry befitting the Fisk line; though she is no longer a member of the family and better off for it, it's also her right to reclaim what little good it's afforded her.

Speaking of storied lineages... Who cares if something is amiss with this mansion, anyway? All illustrious families, noble or otherwise, have their dirty secrets. If anything, Allegra is looking forward to concerning herself with the gossip and rumors surrounding a family other than her own, to being merely part of the audience. She isn't sure what the occasion to celebrate is, but that hardly matters.

Upon arriving at the bar and ordering a glass of champagne, she finds a lone stranger in a rather plain mask seated on a stool. He looks for all the world more miserable than any person at such an event should, even while masked. Allegra walks over without even a moment's hesitation.

"Good evening," she says, smiling one of her most charming smiles. "You look rather... fatigued, yet the night is still so very young. Could it be that you've already danced too much?"

This executive seemed nice enough, but Allegra knew better than most people how deceiving appearances could be. She herself was engaging in deception at the moment, after all; of course, showing vulnerability wasn't an alternative at all.

"Oh, the pleasure is all mine," she answered, smiling, a change from her thoughts. It was high time that she put them from her mind altogether. She was here to do business. "Thank you," she added before sitting as instructed.

"I'll have some tonic water, thank you," Allegra said, half to Westcliff and half to the waitress. She'd like to see what "his usual" entailed before ordering anything alcoholic, and to take the measure of him as well. She waited until the server left before she spoke again.
