unfortunately for him, this business of his crossed into rocket territory and, as marcel has said when he first proposed this mission, a threat to their monopoly was a threat of rocket itself.

[break][break]marcel curses at the sight of the pokemon. he does it again, louder, when he sees what it's doing to his plants.

vega's on it before he even commands an attack. a few AIR SLASHES in quick succession both divert the pokemon's attention from the garden and weakens it should it lash out again. marcel doesn't waste time in throwing a pokeball before it can retaliate.

it was impossible, given marcel's rank and the size of their team, for him to stay ignorant. he recognised the lie immediately--all too aware that he was guilty too--but this has been some time ago. among all the preparations for this, it'd been easy to forget he'd yet to confront priam on the matter.

he supposes he shouldn't blame him for making his mistakes, but it's the fact they are his that frustrates him so. marcel knows how badly this path can end. as he's dragged towards the hatch, he holds up a hand to protect his face as the floor above begins to crumble. his expression settles into a grim line.

still, marcel has faced worse grievances than these; compartmentalisation, for him, is a practised art. he's learnt the hard way a mission always comes first--it's a lesson he isn't forgetting any time soon. grumbling a thanks to priam, he opens the hatch. "protect the floor." he orders his sylveon before making his way down.

he hopes emma and gavin are safe. the protect would only go so far; he cannot help them from here.

[attr="class","mthread"]"shit." marcel feels his feet slide under him as they reappear. while he might have kept his footing in a different scenario, with his hands still holding onto emma and gavin he's pulled down with his teammates. his sylveon appears to be entirely more fortunate, stepping to the side with all the grace neither of them possess.

his back cracks as he pushes himself to his feet, grumbling some sort of reassurance in return to emma's look. hearing the footsteps of another--rocket or league he did not know, but he'd rather not take the chance--he decides to get a move on. the twisted branches of the tree prove a mighty obstacle: the stairs are a dead-end. unless they did something about it.

Kaida Adachi's pokemon are visible before she is, and marcel curses at the sight. the type match-up didn't fare well for him; he'd just have to trust that emma and gavin had it handled. more footsteps--god, if those were more league members--meant they'd be in for a tight fit if the tree were to grow any more.

"see if you can do something." he mutters to his sylveon. the pokemon casts a wary glance around before approaching the branches. a gentle, if wary, DRAINING KISS is placed on one.

[attr="class","mthread"][attr="class","rocket"]he counts a rough minute before the attacks start coming. vega dodges a swipe of steel claws from a nearby skamory, forcing him to tighten his grip on her scruff. she retaliates with a flamethrower before moving to close the distance between them and their allies. marcel points a two-finger salute forward, indicating he was going ahead.
[break][break]making sure they were still close enough to the onyx, though not so much so that they'd get in the way of any attacks, marcel focuses on the racers taking the lead. he takes in whatever details he can make out in the rush of the race, trusting vega to safely manoeuvre the course. a sudden turn catches him off guard. "shit."

"no, just dropping by." marcel gratefully shifts his attention to gavin, holding up the dossier. the beers swing slightly in his grasp. glancing over gavin's shoulder, he lets out a low whistle. "damn, merlino. sign me up for underboss if it gets me a house like this." it was the sort of modern sleekness marcel tended to avoid when looking for a place of his own, though its appeal was undeniable. it was almost enough to make him reconsider the tatami mats and sliding doors of his own home.

reflex pulls marcel to step aside as soon as he senses a disturbance in the air. the ENERGY BALL, having missed the man, continues towards his gardevoir. it hits its target, rippling into spectral matter without making it through the other side--absorbed, perhaps, or maybe it had simply fulfilled its purpose.

his gardevoir was a puzzling specimen, that was for sure.

if it's bothered by the attack, it doesn't show it--then again, he hadn't seen any hint of emotion from the pokemon as of yet. without warning, it TELEPORTS close to the slurpuff, hitting it with a swift PHANTOM FORCE.

[attr="class","mthread"]the barrier is the least of his worries. marcel doesn't bother to hold back his sigh, for it's soon lost to the ruckus around them. his gaze passes over emma and gavin to check on priam conrad, @zacharias, Eva Dumont, and dominic sinclair; then marie jules, sitting some way off from them. it takes a moment longer to find Katherine Fairburne, but once he's finally assessed the position of all his teammates, it becomes clear that this spiral of events was the sole product of league intervention.

his sylveon shakes her head at his questioning glance--the vents were a no-go then. marcel doesn't want to waste any more time--the situation was changing rapidly enough as it was--and he's more than grateful when a kirlia catches his eye. "change of plan." he mutters under his breath, quiet enough that emma and gavin might not have picked up on it.

as his sylveon's ribbons wind around his ankle, marcel moves to grab the hands of his teammates. "get us downstairs." focusing on the stairs on the opposite side of the hall, amour uses COPYCAT. hopefully the guard's attentions were diverted enough that they'd be able to make a clean getaway to the next floor down.

[attr="class","mthread"][attr="class","rocket"]her words and face do not match. marcel stares into a void. nothing in the face of nostalgia, the reminder of home. he supposes he can't judge her too much for that--he'd be lying if he said he held any attachment to his home outside of a half-hearted taste for patisserie--but there's something in that hollow expression of hers he can't quite bring himself to shake.

"we all need some nice things in our lives." he says, gruffer than expected.

whatever anger, hurt, or upset bubbling towards his surface seemed to die down under emma's stare. perhaps her detachment was contagious. marcel's chewing turns thoughtful; he's made his way through a good half of the cake now.

"how long?" he drags his fork along the gold card disc the cake rests on. "since you joined rocket."

he probably knows, some part of him is aware of it, but alcohol makes for difficult information retrieval. that same part of him knows a shift in conversation topic will result in a far more pleasant evening, but it's hard to escape this spiral of thought after he's fallen in.

super down for all this!! though i never decided on much on the details marcel did play some part in the kanto takeover. this would have been quite soon after the death of marcel's wife (maybe the mission he messed up was to do with kanto?) so their first meeting would have certainly been...interesting lol. when his grief was fresh i feel marcel was a lot more openly resentful of his bosses, a part of him not caring about what would happen to him. still, his standard of work was near impeccable so idk he probably pissed some people off but his hatred only came out in his words and i feel like his bosses couldn't give a shit about his emotional outbursts so long as he was performing asjdnkak.

ofc dominic might have reacted differently, maybe he threw all that hate back at him and fed 'me vs them' mentality marcel was starting to latch onto. either way he was def the villain in marcel's eyes, and his ruthlessness 100% backed up that moral superiority he was working to justify. eventually though marcel lost the will to fight (if he could have really called it that) and learned to just keep his head down and work. maybe after working together in kanto there was some stretch of time before they ran into each other again--i think it'd be neat for dominic to see that evolution from an angry, grieving man to a pretty much perfect (if somewhat weary and hella cynical) employee. i feel like any work they might have done together in that period would have had marcel coming off as a kinda dull, soft-hearted man. his empathy may have gotten in the way of some missions but not to the point of compromising them--if there's a kinder alternative that would be preferable. idk how willing he would have been to voice those thoughts around dominic but nonetheless it would have been something he probably would have picked up on through his body language or whatever. tbh marcel normally toughens up on the field but i feel like dominic's presence would have done smth to counteract that since he def generated some underlying fear from marcel cause...well it's dominic man.

fast forward to new rocket and marcel's position as admin def seems ironic. for someone who despised the organisation so much, though not openly (save that brief period in kanto) and took the opportunity to desert ship when it came for him to come back seems v hypocritical tho idk what dominic would have made of that. marcel, once again, has undergone some changes but ultimately he's still the same deep down. i'm not too sure on what their current dynamic would look like so i'd love to see what u think! replied in my plotter since my initial thoughts always end up being a big ol' wall of text (god this came out so much longer than intended...) but if u wanna carry on thru dms that works for me!
