Thus came the true subject of this conversation. As Olivia began to almost sing praises at how Balder had grown as a trainer, although he had felt no changes ever since he had arrived in Hoenn, Olivia came to the reason why she had asked him to be there. Upon a silver platter, she was offering him the Sootopolis Gym. As he heard her offer, Balder's jaw dropped slightly.[break][break]

He had been considering opening his own gym for a while now. Hell, he even went to see the champion to take over his gym. Alas, it had already been bequeathed to somebody else. But now... now he had the opportunity to do something more. The giant looked towards the Silver Spire. A smile slowly drew upon his face before he turned towards the new councilwoman.[break][break]

"Well then, I believe congratulations are in order for you then? I'm surprised Freiya retired but I'm glad you were able to get the spot. And yeah, you can definitely keep the politics part of the city, it's not something I'd feel able to handle. However, I do ask that I'm allowed to handle security as I wish it. And to have access to the cave too."[break][break]

He glanced back towards the Silver Spire. "So yeah. I accept. I'll become the 8th Gym Leader. Although... I do hope I got a nice budget for remodeling, because if I want to represent my home region accordingly, I'll need to install some... specific instruments you could say. And yeah I'll definitely leave you a tower for the Crown and your own quarters. Anyways I'll only need some key areas and the central tower."

Stormy seemed to be getting impatient. Maybe even frustrated. Her face was betraying her emotions overall. And to think that the answer to his questionning was so simple too... Seeing how her goal was to protect everyone, it would've only be logical to answer she was seeking more power, or to be recognised by everyone. Or even to find a man worthy of her to stand beside her against adversity. But she was too focused on her job to notice any of that.[break][break]

Wadjet began to move, chaining Dragon Dance into a Dragon Claw to try and swat the stones back at the Alolan Geodude. Against a regular rock type, this course of action could've been a good idea, forcing the pokemon to take cover or dodge the shots. But... "Geo, reverse polarity. Mix in some more stones too."[break][break]

As the pointy stones reached close to Geo, the golem roared as the electricity around its body surged. As if to reflect a change in polarity, the metal sand that was now on its head to represent some haircut was catapulted towards the sky. Soon after, the stones that had gotten close thanks to Wadjet's hits were sent back by a magnetic repulsion, heading towards the flying-type. Suddenly, Geo's rock launcher lit up and more stones followed, thanks to the move Stone Edge.[break][break]

"Stay on the defensive Geo. Polish yourself." After firing the stones back, the creature retracted the launcher on its back and started to roll itself on the ground, polishing each and every rock surface he had on his body. Surely this would assist in evading the dragon-like creature's attacks?

As both of them were hungry, Charmander chuckled a bit with its new friend before the creature flew off, plucking a berry for them. As it landed in Blaze's hands, the Rowlet offered him the first bite, but the lizard could not agree to this. The future dragon decided to slice the berry in two distinct halves, offering one to his friend. After the Rowlet surely took it, Charmander began to roast the berry over the flame on his tail.[break][break]

As the fruit finished roasting, the lizard moved his tail away, closed his eyes and bowed to the food, as if to thank the food gods to have blessed this berry. And then, in a single bite, Charmander devoured the entire berry half he had. After savoring the roasted taste, the lizard swallowed the food and smiled. Bringing its hands together, he began to do a motion he had seen Balder do. "Charman." A pokemon expert might understand this as "Thank you for the food". The lizard now looked at the owl, waiting for him to be done eating.

Yo! So i can see a plot possibility here where Balder and Solgaleo encounter the Hatterene slapping a rocket goon around in a city and you trying to save the man. As the challenger literally blazed through the challenge, his partner's resistance and ability against fire supporting him, the Blaziken couldn't help but applaud the two who braved such heat. As the Arcanine landed near the exit, the 3 fire pokemons escaped quickly, heading back to their trainer at the top of the tower.[break][break]

The doors opened before Mateo and Arcanine, revealing another tunnel lit by small torches on the wall. Were the challenger to follow the path until the end, he would show up in an open square, where the central tower stood. With a glance, the man could notice there were 3 more exits like the one he came from, most likely linked to the other Tapu doors that Mateo had encountered previously.[break][break]

In the middle of the grass-covered squad, the gigantic tower stood, a spiraling staircase going around it. While climbing was indeed an option, there didn't seem to be anything to hold on to and would make the climb somewhat dangerous, especially since this was potentially the location for the third challenge! Would the challenger risk himself in this climb where nothing was certain? If he were to move forward, he would start to hear a buzzing move, but be unable to identify where it comes from![break][break]

The smile on Kyle's face, as well as the applause, was enough for Balder to consider the first challenge a success. He wanted to leave a small impact on the challenger and for the viewers, and his goal had now been attained. But the show wasn't over yet. There was still some secrets to be revealed during this final encounter.[break][break]

So the two Mightyenas right away huh... Balder remembered facing one of them during his time as a gym trainer. Most likely Kyle's favorite pokemon, since he has two of them. And both of them were dark type, so that meant specific strategies here. As the one named Foxtrot showed its teeth, the giant alligator and the fighting rooster took a step, visibly intimidated. Balder stepped back a bit to give room for the battle.[break][break]

While the other wolf seemed to be calmer by nature, soon came the first attack: Toxic. Jaws placed his arms before him, as if to block the attack, yet it was useless. The gunk struck him, laying it's nightmarish status upon the water pokemon. The countdown for the Feraligatr had now begun. Clock is ticking, time to get moving.[break][break]

"Time to show you why this is the Spirit Realm. Spirit of Fire, radiate your energy!" As he said those words, Balder pressed a button on a controller hidden behind his back. Reacting to the button press, the ceiling began to open, allowing a bright and blazing sun to shine in. The power of a Sunny day. Feeling the radiance of the sun upon its back, Keigo roared and charged towards Foxtrot. Surprised, Jaws began to follow, but moving towards the wolf that had poisoned him: Bravo.[break][break]

"Keigo, show them your might with your rapid kicks! Jaws, show that Mightyena that your strenght is a superpower." Getting close to Foxtrot, Keigo the Blaziken began to chain combo kicks towards it, delivering two quick kicks at the legs of the wolf to try and hinder it. As for Jaws, his right fist surrounded itself with a golden light before he tried to strike Bravo on the right side of it's jaw.[break][break]

The attack of Nuts struck home... but at what cost? The hit hadn't been enough to have the bear drop the tree he held, allowing it to get a free hit on the Chesnaught. And what a devastating hit too! The ursaring proceeded to swing the wooden hammer tree he held in his paws, sweeping the area. The juggernaut took the hit head-on, sent flying backwards to the feet of his trainer, knocked out.[break][break]

Yet, it seemed that luck was still on their side. While the whole group seemed to have been damaged by the hit, except the newcomer's Gallade, the bear was affected by the effects of Leech Seed, making it lose the tree it was swinging to devastate everyone. As the tree struck the ground, everyone started to move and execute a final attack to finish the creature.[break][break]

Everyone but Nuts, who was still laying down on the ground, immobile. Balder ran to his side, pulling out an item from his pocket. "Come on partner, we gotta finish this. Don't stay in the dark here." The man placed a pill in his pokemon's mouth and made the creature eat it. Seconds later, the Chesnaught opened its eyes and stood back up, albeit exhausted.[break][break]

"That's it Nuts. Let's show that bear that you got more where it came from. NEEDLE ARM!" The Chesnaught roared before lunging forward, ready to join the other pokemons in their final assault. Needles surged from its arm, covering the entirety of his forearm. Using all of his strength, the pokemon leaped and aimed to strike his spiky arm at the Ursaring's head.

"I see someone's interested in the legends of this place." A tall figure approached the lady from behind before standing beside her, arms crossed upon his chest. The Gym Leader looked at the lady beside him, analysing her outfit and composure. Even though she seemed a bit cold outwardly, hesitation was still visible upon her soft face.[break][break]

"Before you ask, my name is Balder Schwartz. I'm the Gym Leader of this city. May I know what your name is, young lady?" A soft smile drew itself on the man's face as he unfolded his arms. Seeing how the girl looked like a noble, yet somewhat lost, it seemed only fair to assume that she was a young adult and much younger then he was? So the term Young Lady was appropriate... right?[break][break]

Hovering far in the sky, Falco the Braviary kept watch on the city, more precisely on these two. Balder had asked the creature to scout the city for today, just in case. But now that his trainer was meeting with someone that was never seen before, the bird couldn't help but worry slightly. The Alolan man had a tendency to put himself in trouble.
