A clerk guides Adrian to the conference room, returning to their duties after showing him the door. Filing in nonchalantly, it's plain to note he feels out of place; street clothes where others adorn themselves in suits and ties, dresses; it's a culture clash. And that's ignoring the alienation that comes with owing fealties to Team Rocket.[break][break]

In a sense, he feels vulnerable here; beneath a microscope. A fox in the henhouse, he'd try not to give away the game.[break][break]

Already present is DEREK HOFFMAN, a familiar face. He's curious about what all Derek might have shared about his involvement, if anything. Then there's the meeting itself.[break][break]

"Hey, man. How've you been?" They haven't talked for quite some time, but they're not so familiar that it's unusual. Walking over to the table, he's quick to pick out a seat for himself and set down his bag next to him.[break][break]

It was a year ago now that they had last worked together, which had yielded them access to the UNOWN REPORT. It would be nice if their time together now yielded similarly useful boons. Anything to give him peace at night.

Thinking back on his school days in Rustboro, Adrian starts to consider the merits of adjusting his approach, or "style" of battling. He generally ran loosely balanced teams without any core strategy; he relied on switching in and out of engagements that were unfavorable, and suffered when others battled in a less straightforward manner.[break][break]

Even if it was logical, it was an amateurish approach.[break][break]

Today he hoped to try something a bit more novel, building his team to do more than simply attack or defend. But as with all changes, there was no immediately telling if it was good or bad. Adrian needs experience to see where the faults in this new approach lies, and what its strengths were. He'd make tweaks and improvise from there.[break][break]

First thing's first, he needed to locate a candidate...[break][break]

If he could enjoy helping clean up the ocean, then maybe that was reward in and of itself. Rowan Wrynn would certainly commend his efforts, so rather than consider his dive a success or failure based on what he found, he'd try to think of it as a net positive. Making the oceans a little more habitable for ocean-dwelling pokemon had its charm.[break][break]

Speaking of, he grabs at Tirtouga hoping to remove a tangle of fishing wire, contented with himself in the moment.[break][break]

Taking a moment to consider the Gardevoir and the Haunter, Adrian conclusively decides to ignore both, withdrawing his previous pokemon and resigning himself to inaction.[break][break]

"I don't know if anyone's published it, but they may have," he admits unknowingly, wondering whether the Unown Report is even widespread knowledge among Hoennians, or just the proactive trainers that seem to routinely find themselves tangled in Hoenn's theater.[break][break]

"It seems weird, doesn't it? We just conveniently find these things, right before everything really goes to shit." It almost seemed like foul play, and yet he refuses to believe that. There must be a way to turn it to their advantage... but how? That was the million dollar question.[break][break]

Taking the slight 'detour' they'd manage to elude their pursuers, though he wondered why they resorted to firearms and not their own pokemon. "Good thinking," Adrian mouths quietly while they follow the shortcut, finally allowing himself to ease off some of that tension that had built up in him so suddenly. It wasn't the first time disaster struck, nor would it be the last, but by now he was conditioned to such things. Not that he was immune to his own biology, though.[break][break]

A thudding heartbeat finally settles enough for Adrian to fade into blissful unawareness, and they are well on their way to the destination. With at least most of the eggs presumably intact, they should consider this a win. They'd fared better than the Lilycove shipment some weeks prior; maybe working alone was the problem after all, and not the solution.[break][break]

...Yeah right.[break][break]
