He can't help but to chuckle at Kyle's criticism of his own dogs. Everyone knew him as the dog boy — even Orion had handed off one of his dogs when there hadn't been enough space — but it's apparent that he's pretty fond of his other Pokemon as well. As a ranger, this particular ramble was of more interest to Orion than most.[break][break]

Both of them are forced to focus their full attention on the pirates shortly after.[break][break]

As the DRIZZLE continues, soaking Orion's hair and clothes and (unfortunately) the barbecue, Toucannon blasts another hole into the pirate's ship.[break][break]

"Not comfortably," he calls back over the sounds of battle, "but honestly I don't give a fuck if they're comfortable!"

These assholes had been causing a lot of problems for Hoenn. If they had to cram them all into a small space and make them miserable, so be it. At least they'd keep their lives. Kyle makes a good point about the sinking ship, however, and Orion thinks for a moment before tossing out his Dhelmise. The spectral anchor splashes into the sea with force, rippling waves causing the pirate Orion had knocked off the ship to be slammed into its side.[break][break]

"Anchor that boat and keep it from going under."[break][break]

Dhelmise favoured massive prey such as Wailord; this wasn't so different. Its ANCHOR SHOT sails over the deck of the pirate ship and begins to constrict, wrapping itself around the hull and dragging it close.

It's daunting to place himself between his team and the hissing, spitting threat, but Orion does so without complaint. His Aegislash remains indifferent to the poison that continues to splash against its steel.[break][break]

The whistling music of the Whimsicott is enough to make even Orion feel drowsy, though he's lucky in that it's not meant for him. He holds his position as the Arbok fall — first the smaller one, and then the largest threat. A sigh of relief escapes him as he lowers the heavy shield and offers silent thanks to his Pokemon before returning it to its capsule.[break][break]

"Get the little ones, too," he orders, and then softens as he recalls the timid nature of the Whimsicott. "Please."[break][break]

Only once the snakes are all deep in their slumber does he truly relax. He pulls out his Rotom phone and dials for assistance, tucking it against his shoulder as he kneels down to check over the snakes for any defects or injuries.[break][break]

After he hangs up the phone, he straightens and addresses Razz. "Good work out there. I've called in some back-up to help us move these guys without waking them up; they're going to relocate them to a more remote part of the desert."

As it becomes clear the group intends to convene further with Velmos, Orion settles into the idea. He's still guarded, on perpetually high alert in this alien world, but there is strength in their numbers.[break][break]

"Orion," he provides, once Balder and Isra have introduced themselves.[break][break]

He signals to his Noivern, and the dragon bat circles overhead once more before coming to rest on the ground nearby. Though it may appear feral with the numerous scars criss-crossing its wings, it gives no sign of hostility.[break][break]

There is little discussion on the matter before Kazimir has decided that they're taking the sewers — this time, Orion's fine with the outcome. If there's a chance they could save Pierce or even find Mateo in the eerie tower, he was willing to take it. He offers a silent nod of thanks to his Noivern before recalling it; it would be an awkward fit, he thinks, to have the winged creature confined to an underground space. Not to mention the fact that it wouldn't fit through the entrance.[break][break]

Hopping down after Kazimir, he releases his Type: Null and Espeon. After the appearance of the bizarre block creatures, he craves the security that the chimera brings. Espeon probes into the sewers with her FUTURE SIGHT.

It's a weight off his shoulders; they slump slightly in relief before the tension returns to his posture from the gravity of the situation rather than his own awkward shortcomings.[break][break]

"Well, I'm hoping no one's home, but if they are... priority is on rescuing the Pokemon." They were rangers, not cops. "I brought my Gengar to induce drowsiness, make our jobs a little easier, but that doesn't always work out."[break][break]

That was why his Swampert lurks in the background, ready to intervene if things go awry.[break][break]

"Any ideas?" he wonders, frowning as he catches a glimpse of movement inside. "Shit, no luck on it being empty..."

There had supposedly been a lot of that at Littleroot. The League was coming under a lot of fire for what had happened and Orion hadn't been there to witness it, could only piece together little things from word-of-mouth, the media, and the leaked footage that someone had uploaded. In it, the League certainly hadn't looked great.[break][break]

With the threat of the media gone, Orion dips his head to Kaida in expecation of farewell.

Whenever is mentioned, Orion can't help but to recall his first impressions of the man: he'd sauntered into the council meeting with a Teddiursa strapped to him and proceeded to lay into Olivia as if he'd been paid to.[break][break]

The memory is humorous, fond.[break][break]

"He's more than welcome to take every ounce of attention away from me," Orion agrees, genuine, then jests, "especially if our baking leaves much to be desired."[break][break]

The cookies seem to be turning out better than he'd expected, at least. Peering into the smudged glass window, he sees that they're rising fine and the smell of them is phenomenal. Hopefully they'd taste even half as good.[break][break]

When work is mentioned, he winces.[break][break]

"It never seems to get any lighter, I'll tell you that." Which was his own fault, really: he could have stepped down as a Ranger in order to free up some extra time, but he hadn't the heart to. "I hope yours is less shit."
