an eyebrow was raised by both trainer and incineroar as they watched the gardevoir fold its hands together in a sort of prayer gesture. something was up but shinra didn't quite know enough about this kind of pokemon to really make a confident call. for now he knew to focus on the offensive at least and wear them down. being a one on one fight meant that this fight could be over in one hit or turn into a war of attrition and either could easily be won by dante alone. that much he was sure of.

"right. show them a killer flare blitz!" the cat pokemon let out another roar in acknowledgement of his trainer's orders, its navel began to light up bright as flames sprouted fourth and engulfed dante's body as he charged forward. his sights were set on the gardevoir as it reared back its fist for a haymaker strike powered by its flames.

a grin spread across shinra's face as he watched the big guy hunch over. he would never admit it but he did sort of enjoy seeing his opponents reel back after one of his hits. there was something about it that itched the part of his brain that made him confident. seeing the other guy suddenly charge at him was just adding to it, it always helped to have an opponent that was just as enthusiastic as himself to go against. it meant he could go all out.

he felt the full weight of @gawdzilla hit him with full force but he wouldn't let it knock him down. the moment he felt it connect he pushed back, keeping him in place just barely as his feet were pushed back against the mat a few centimeters. he should have expected such a big guy like Caius to be heavy, but shinra lifted heavier.

he quickly reached his arms over the blonde and wrapped them around the guy's upper torso and began to lift. if he was successful then he would try to lift the guy up into the air and bring him back down into a backdrop and slam the blonde flat onto his back if possible. if it didn't work then he was pretty much open to being flung himself or worse if his opponent so inclined.

the sounds of metal breaking apart and crashing echoed all throughout the old ruins that it could even be heard by a man and his pikachu who were moving some heavy machinery from deeper inside. "what the...?" shinra had come to this old facility at the mention of there being some rare pokemon lurking about as well as the prospect of finding something cool and interesting. the call of adventure if you will was something he was always seeking as well as a good fight. he just never gave himself time or motivation to seek it out until recently. today might have been just his chance now that he knew that something else was in here besides them.

his pikachu was trying to put on a brave face but its tail was still shaking behind it, it wasn't as sure that this was a good idea like his trainer, but now he was stuck here and there was no going back unless it was willing to swim. "c'mon madden let's go check it out. better it probably sink this rig than sink our little boat." shinra said nonchalantly as his pikachu just gave a surprised look at his reasoning. either way he followed his trainer and together they made their way around the structure until they passed and open doorway and shinra quickly backed up and stood outside the doorway and saw a...girl? "don't suppose your lost are ya?"

choosing carefully was some pretty sound advice.

the moment the gardevoir suddenly appeared shinra did his best to hide the twitch his face pulled when he laid his eyes on the pokemon. he had been led to believe that this gym was focused on grass types. the evidence in the structure of this place only reaffirmed him the moment he walked in the door. he was ready to fling a certain member of his team into the fray. now they were going to have to take a seat in the back.

it was probably lucky that he just needed to beat this single 'mon to get the badge and while he did have teammates that could do it he surprise of the reveal of gym pokemon shook him a little. "alright then. one on one huh? think i know someone in mind then."

he threw the ball from his person and out of it popped out dante who let out an intimidating roar and flexed his muscles showing off just how much he could bulk up and prove that he was the toughest creature in the room. just seeing his pokemon get ready for a fight was enough to dim the worry shinra had that he couldn't help but smile. "keep yer claws out dante. don't know what kind of tricks that one's gonna use."

give me that heated friendly rivalry between these two pls. i know at the time of writing their going at it in the wrestling mission but honestly shinra would be mad impressed with caius giving him a fun match and join him for a day at the gym spotting him. let them be gym bros and lift each other's hearts <3 but also they can be p good friends. shinra can be just as pushy so even if caius doesn't stick around long he can be sure shinra's right behind him ready to get into some fun or trouble if they gotta deal with rockets or whatever whenever they meet up so forming a friendship of just accidentally spending too much time together sounds adorbs. also shinra's down for giving all the platonic affection if caius ever feels lonely.

also they totally should form a tag team together. we need to come up with a ring name for caius.

the roars of a monster of a beast echoed through the forest as shinra and madden exploded from out of the foliage as three large green lizards came bursting through. they were literally ripping trees out of their roots. "ok so maybe waking them up with a thunderbolt wasn't the best idea!" screamed shinra as his words were mixed with a terrified laughter. his pikachu partner just screamed in pure terror as the two ran. news of the swarm reached his ears and he couldn't pass up the chance to miss out on seeing these things and try to catch one for himself.

boy was that a huge mistake on his part because now a ghidorah level threat was trying to fucking kill him. he could fight them yes if it was a one v one between him and one of them. that would be easy. he could even handle two if he was that daring (he is) and just continuously chuck pokeballs at one of them till it gave up. but three? no way! it was illegal to throw more than one pokeball at a wild pokemon after all, still there was no real other option that he had that didn't include fleeing for his life. "damn it all please just sit in here nice and QUIETLY."

screaming out the trio of kaiju he hurled a pokeball at one of them. at least of them would be slowed down at the very least.

he spotted the leader surrounded by some pretty pokemon and eating a salad? there was probably a vegan joke around this whole scene but that felt inappropriate to make. "yeah i'm looking ta earn all of them and you were the closest one to me. hope ya don't mind, looks like you were in the middle of yer lunch break. sorry 'bout that." hopefully she wouldn't notice the embarrassing shade of pink that was spreading around his face as he said that. he was a man on a mission but not a man without manners mind you.

"name's shinra redgrave by the way. y'know figure this place would look more like something outta a fairytale. its nice though." shooting her a smile he removed one of the balls from his belt and clicked the button to expand it, his hand gripping it tightly as he raised it up. "again sorry 'bout interuppting yer lunch. i'm welcome to wait till your done."

the smell of nature assaulted his nose like a truck and tickled his nostrils so much that he couldn't hold back a sneeze. he's read about botanical gardens before but this place sure put some of them to shame from the looks of things especially with the maze that was lying before him! when explained to him that the leader would be on the other side of it he wasted no time in cutting his way through it. it was here that shinra learned a very important thing about himself as he had much time to think while walking. he was kind of bad at mazes.

he swore he rounded the same corner twice even if the pattern of the brambles said otherwise. for a minute he was just walking endlessly hoping he would get lucky and stumble out of the exit. as he did the sound of a cry snapped him back to actual thinking as he looked down and saw he nearly stepped on a seedot. "oh man, sorry little guy. hey you wouldn't happen ta know the way out wouldja?" the little acorn looked at him, a beat, and then turned and sprinted off away from him. "hey-hey! c'mon!"

he exploded into a jog after the little pokemon who was surprisingly quick for having no legs. soon he was racing through the maze and once he passed a T section he skidded to a halt and jogged into the stone area with a whistle and slowly taking everything in as he turned around while slowing to a walk. "man...you sure know your aesthetic..."
