his question was directed more to his riolu than elijah. the pokemon can detect auras after all, which should mean it should be aware if the pokemon has been knocked down or not.

he motions for his pokemon to come closer with him. steadily, they approach where the attack landed, caution being observed with every unit of distance closed.

the riolu is ready to counter should their expectations be broken by the pokemon.

wolfgang brings with him a bag for the expedition. although there was no immediate need, taking samples of everything to fully understand the realm they have invaded.

how does the environment affect the fulgurite? or was it the other way around? what other properties were present that made this site site perfect for the megalopolan's plants that can be likened to their source back on hoenn?

questions can be asked, but no one can answer them but themselves.

wolfgang takes a sample of the mineral and places them on a container before stuffing it back to his bag. efforts to understand them were already made, but it was better to take more samples while they're already here than go back when there was less of a reason to.

"how are you holdin' up?" he asks james, who has been quiet this entire time.

he stares at the menu long enough for him to grumble. everything on it was just what he wanted in a breakfast, but he knows he has to pick one anytime soon.

eventually, he gives in and chooses the first one in his head.

"i'm gettin' bacon pancakes." it was the simplest of them all on the menu and most likely the only one savory enough for his taste. "and coffee," he adds at the end.

the menu rests on the table as soon as he chooses his order, letting his sister be the one to call a waiter for their order.

he's never heard of a pokemon like that. if people had them, they certainly didn't flaunt them like they do with pokemon like urshifu and those fancy ultra beasts.

"i don't like that sarcasm..." he says with a scowl on his expression.

the volume ramps up afterwards, unable to contain his thoughts. "if i ever start one, i'm beatin' this shaymin up first, then you're gonna go second!"

he sharply turns to the action, where their pokemon faces against the shaymin. another seed flare is fired their way, with wolfgang jumping out of the way with his riolu.

"shit, don't ya have anythin' useful from afar?" he asks his riolu.

it raises a paw, boosting the victreebel with helping hand. the answer to wolfgang's question was a no.

he doesn't really want to be here but he had no choice as the material he needs for his part of the project had to stay within the office.

"don't mention it. it's not like i had a choice."

he could've just went straight home instead of working overtime, but this man felt like he could use the company, like the silent introvert boy that needed other groups of friends to adopt them for a social life.

fingers continue to tap on the keyboard, carrying the conversation without shifting his head.

he exits shortly after everyone else. it was a rocky landing, but at least Rory Faust still got them there alive. what welcomes them afterwards is an entrance blocked by a rock he couldn't recognize.

he walks up to investigate, but not close enough to touch it. it's crystalline in appearance and somewhat electromagnetic in nature as he noticed how his rotom's sparks interacts with it. with what they currently have on them, the only thing they can appraise about it is its appearance.

"whatever this shit is, we still need to smash through it and get in." he turns to JAMES BAKER since he's the one with the ultra beast. "you can do it, right?"

he would've asked FERNANDO SILPH and his zeraora, but figures he probably won't since he already made it known that he's just there to observe.

there's no response from fernando upon rory's inquiry. a grumble on his throat gets muffled to the best of his ability in response to being forced to talk.

he'd much rather just do something required of him, which leading wasn't, but living was a better choice than not living.

"get to one of those buildings," he instructs her, leaning forward and pointing to a prominent structure at the horizon. "if somethin's built 'round here, then it must be resistant to the weather."

he'd take his seat, but after leaning over the driver's seat, he realized it's a much better perspective to be curious about the dimension they are at. he remains on his feet, anchoring himself with a grip on the driver's seat.

"if we're lucky, it might just have controls for it's automated security." the last time he was here, it did happen.

he's not sure why he was the one pushed by fernando.

is he trying to gauge his character, or was he just wanting for him to be involved. as much as he's content on jumping in only when he's the only person capable of doing it, he can't turn down a request.

he breathes a sigh. "alright."

before he can get inside, he notices a buzzing sound from afar. maybe the tinkering had flooded the noise, but it certainly was still a distance away, albeit approaching them at an alarming rate.

wolfgang takes his rotom out, has it use substitute, and then chucks the decoy a distance away from them with a throw. he steps in the vehicle soon after, recalling the pokemon along the way.

34 encounter security machines or robots created in the likeness of megalopolans in their suits. these machines or robots are resilient and hostile, as if programmed to protect a perimeter that no longer exists. they repeat the word, "RECON" in a distorted digitized voice and are all seemingly left-handed.

elijah eventually lures the shaymin out of its hiding while his riolu tries its best to help. as it pops its head out, wolfgang realizes he hasn't seen anything else similar to it.

"what kinda pokemon's that?" he asks. "funky."

as small as it was, its attack was inversely proportional to its size. the warning shot blasts through just above wolfgang's face, taking a step back and almost trampling over a patch of gracidea.

he clicks his tongue.

"i hope you're a good battler, cause i sure ain't."

his head turns to his riolu, motioning for it to rush the attacker with a jerk of his jaw. he hasn't really trained it in fights, but it's the best he has at the moment if he was to preserve the flowers.

paws rush to the shaymin right away, readying a force palm to fling it out of its hiding place.

to voice out his frustrations or to accept his fate. there's always a struggle for wolfgang choose between breathing out a sigh or clearing his throat just for the grumbling sound.

he goes for the former this time.

wolfgang goes for an open one near the window. the light filtering through the glass was bright, but at least it gives him elsewhere to look at instead of the loud, overly decorated interior of the cafe.

"there. it's scenic enough for your pictures." he takes a seat before consulting abigail. "this is good enough, right?"

he steels himself for the colorful and equally extra menu.

he isn't surprised by the sudden yanking and getting dragged at this point. it was only of matter when it'll happen for him.

"wrong move," he tells his sibling. "i'm gonna squeeze every last bit of penny you have."

he's unsure whether it's a bluff or something he'd actually do though, depending of what happens until then.

wolfgang immediately feels out of place the moment they enter the store. the only other people there were either families or dating couples, though he supposed they count as the former.

as soon as he's done looking at the vibes of the place, he pipes up. "isn't this one of those places where you go just to take pictures of the food?"

they are led to a field of flowers on a floating island. wolfgang has always tried to evade any of hoenn's weird happenings in lieu of a peaceful life, though he did walk in on this voluntarily.

at least it isn't as dangerous as anything else, bar the magical island they're on having the risk of it disappearing statistically the same as it appearing.

as mesmerizing takes place, a sudden movement takes his attention. "the fuck's that?!"

it was small, and unassuming, but probably not as harmless given that every pokemon shared the same level of threat for a human. still, he has a riolu with him.

"let's go get that shit," he tells elijah. "fucker got us here. it'll probably get us down as well."

he starts wading through the flowers with his riolu helplessly tailing along. he waits for another opportunity to help his trainer, his copycat ready for any move elijah might throw.
