the attitude seemingly drops at first contact.

"huh? oh, yeah. same."

an awkward nod to and a handshake for marks the first interaction he gets with his colleagues. at least 's approach on this expedition seemingly aligns with his— hopefully meaning they spend less time here.

he says little as he's told that someone else will take the lead. he assumes his position there was just to observe until he can chip in, given that no direct instruction was told.

he dismisses her with a wave of his hand. he doesn't really care much about the food as long as it fits the description of breakfast.

"yeah, yeah. that's fine. just pick somethin'."

it's not like he's looking to impress someone that he'd come up with a special place in mind. he has a lot to make up for his sister, but he's not willing to go spoil her that much.

eggs and bacon would be nice, but he wasn't going to mention that.

he stares at elijah's answer, and the reasoning doesn't make sense either. "that's so shallow."

maybe he's just a romantic that expected things to have meaning, but even something as superficial as elijah's response to it elicits a response from the stone.

whether elijah doesn't actually have friends or not is put at the back of his thoughts for now in lieu of the flower.

as with the stone, wolfgang instinctively takes it, where it soon blooms to something beyond this world. he blinks at it, his logic dictating him to stay away from it, but the invitation was too strong to ignore.

"tsk."

his riolu follows him as soon as he chases it. he raises a hand, ready to copycat any help he feels that would come from elijah as an emanation pokemon.

she was still a growing child (in his point of view). there's no way he's allowing her to be missing a meal just because he did.

"what do you mean never mind?! i ain't sayin' no to that!"

raising his voice in public earns him shifty looks from people around them, to which he responds with just a low growl from his throat. he turns to look at them, though the natural glare he has has the people turn from them.

he cleans up his act after trying not to let it bother him before demanding more things from her.

"get the map out. pick a place. we're goin' there if ya barely count coffee as breakfast."

he shrugs at her question. he wasn't hungry if that was the only question.

"no, i had coffee earlier." he certainly needed it today, and maybe an additional one for safe measures.

he feels nonchalance at first before he realizes the essence of the question. there's only one reason why a girl would ask such things, and wolfgang feels nausea forming.

"are you tellin' me ya didn't get somethin' to eat before goin' out? they jack up prices so bad in these places, y'know?"

he taps his foot impatiently on the ground as dweebs start making themselves known to him. he hasn't met any of the employees of the team he's been employed with until now, having been exploiting the work-from-home policies provided for them.

"ain't ya guys fuckin' late?" he barks as he sees the late party finally coming to view.

wolfgang scratches his head as he prepares himself mentally and physically. meeting new people was troublesome, especially when he realizes that they'll be working together in the near future, unless he can keep his working conditions the same for a while.

he doubts it, given today's trip.

they could bicker for as long as they want, but the origin of the stone wasn't going to solve itself. he snarls under his breath as he approaches it, eyes squinting as he sees words start to appear etched on its surface.

it's as if something supernatural beckoned him to the stone. he wouldn't have vandalized it otherwise, but he takes out a pocket knife and starts to inscribe a name out of instinct.

he huffs from his nose as soon as the deed is done. no surname was written, nor any other indication of the person besides a given name. he leaves it at that, making no other action that would have spilled himself out to the other person he's with.

wolfgang turns to elijah. "don't judge me for this." it's an impulsive decision to carve the rock, though he doesn't feel any regret in doing so.

their defenses for the wild pokemon look like it's out of place now with how the garden expanded even beyond the confines of the fencing.

wolfgang looks at it weird as he stares back at him. while even roses have thorns, those thorns don't necessarily make the rose ugly, much like how this electric fence does to their garden. it doesn't help that it's pretty much recycled material to save the costs.

"oi, you deal with flowers, right?" he tells , who he dragged here upon seeing the explosion of growth. "what does that stone mean?"

he points at the slab of stone in the middle. it definitely wasn't there the last time he visited.

he got out the moment he can under the guise of family and education. bless his grandparents for existing so he has a reason to step out of their place the moment he could.

still, brother is weird. he basically lived on his lonesome for a while that it felt like family has been a lost concept to him.

"my excuse is i need money," he answers. "rent ain't payin' itself."

he looks around the attraction. he still cringes at all the lights and sounds and crowds, but he supposed he already paid for the admittance fee. getting out was much more of a waste than staying.

"just... go lead the way. we're wastin' time jus' talkin' here."

regardless of what he says, he still eventually leans forward to give his sister an easier time. It's only going to get more annoying if he lets the pestering progress further.

he appears discontent and disgruntled on the outside as eyes keep looking around. there's more noise around him than what he has hears in a week of him just living his own life.

his rotom travels through the ceiling, hopping from one lighting to another and powering up whichever segment of the room they were in.

their means of travel leads to a fruitful escape as they eventually reach the end, only for it to be guarded by one of the creatures that held them up in the first place. on the bright side, it didn't seem like the rest of the ones that chased them.

still scary nonetheless, though.

"fuck it! substitute."

as the initial attack clashes against the mega sableye's protection, the rotom produces humanoid copies of the party. it remains on their previous position, keeping the stakataka's attention focused on it.

these were the new intruders that it should be blasting, not them.

it's not as difficult to set up as it is to actually make work. the area they needed to fence in was on the smaller side, and he can probably scrounge up some materials to start it up for cheap with junk from previous jobs that he's had lying around.

"i just need a generator. maybe something that electric-types can power up. i don't think we'll get much solar or wind form this place anyways."

the canopy blocks the light and trunks around them block the wind. with no nearby stream of water as well, it's the only thing wolfgang can think of at the moment, especially given he's been beaten up earlier.

"everything else, i can get."

while others have spread out, he decided to stay and hack away at the panels that constituted the walls of the room they were in. it's enough to expose wiring that runs behind them, and for him to have an idea of how they were fixed.

he spends time trying to figure out how similar the engineering of alien technology is to their own, and with enough inferences, he just gets enough of an idea about them before he hears

"worst case scenario, we get fucked. not like we're in any better situation, anyways. let's do it."

it's the truth that there's nothing else that can be done from where they currently are. venturing deeper was just the right course of action given how they desperately need a way out.

wolfgang waits for and before following the person with the keycard.

05 investigate the depowered power stations and their destroyed cords, powerbanks, machinery, etc.

🗺️ WOLFGANG VOLKOV's expertise as a mechanic/tinkerer must be pivotal in some way.

he looks at her with a deadpan expression, asking himself why does he even try to cheer her up.

"of course. why did i think otherwise?"

there's very little change in his sister, which in itself is relief in its own way. her roasts were still childish insults and her aggression is the same as before.

he says nothing else and arranges the boxes and bags pushed upon him in a more organized manner that makes it easier to carry. she follows him closely behind to the next destination.

behind the pile of bags he barely carries in his arms, a slight smile rests.
