At some point, Thea finds some scrap of amusement in the situation. It reminds her fondly of the bizarre games some of her students play. From time to time she had found them gathered around one individual's gaming device. He spoke often of the enemy having a terrible hitbox. Not that she knew at all what that meant.[break][break]

She could only assume that this might have brought a great deal of excitement to her students. Surely, however, they would assure her that 'No, Miss Rhodes. This isn't at all like a fighting video game.' But, they would have giggled at her and given her hugs and reassurance. [break][break]

Whatever the case, it appears that the metaphorical hitbox of the vehicle might very well be as nonexistent as in fighting games. It seems that the Drifblim's attempt at a GUST had been fruitless. It kicked up dust and not much else. In actuality, it seemed that the Lucario had managed to FORCE PALM the vehicle into a position it couldn't budge from. It was stuck.[break][break]

Thea observes quietly and with mild curiosity as the stranger lowers his bandana to suck in a deep breath. If anything, it at least gave her some reassurance that he wasn't hiding from fumes. Though the pit certainly smelled of gasoline and oil leakage. It was positively disgusting, really.[break][break]

Drifblim decides to change up her tactic, utilizing a PHANTOM FORCE to disappear and reappear inside of the vehicle. She begins to attempt to swell up from the inside, crushing the dashboard and other various items. [break][break]

Thea's lips curl in a fair smile as he accepts her self-invitation. The thought of a deliciously decadent mouse cheesecake sounded divine, and she figured she could indulge for just a moment. This was sort of a cause for celebration, after all.[break][break]

While he sips his lemonade, she mirrors him with her own glass of water. It trickles down the back of her throat and she sucks in a quiet breath. The breeze continues to be refreshing against her warm skin. She's seen a lot of sun as of late - the climate in Hoenn was far warmer than in Galar.[break][break]

As if on cue, Asher is prompted to speak about the region itself. She smiles once again, amused that he had somehow detected her thoughts. [break][break]

"Indeed! Hoenn is beautiful, truly. I've become quite fond of the region, honestly. The transition has been quite smooth, thankfully. I'm relieved."

The expression she receives amuses her, though her placid and calm expression betrays nothing out of the ordinary. Instead, she merely waits patiently while the woman comes up with a response. It's clear that she's skeptical - the way she stares at her as if trying to stare through her, as if, perhaps, she's not convinced that she isn't a ghost. Oh, wouldn't that have been funny, if she truly were a ghost?[break][break]

She almost chuckles aloud at the thought, but she keeps her composure. [break][break]

June shrugs and Thea blinks, following the woman's gaze down the foyer. There's certainly an eerie and chilling atmosphere, but Thea is not yet convinced the place is haunted. Although, ghosts have been known for their trickery and mimicry. It was actually incredibly possible that Thea wasn't talking to a real human being either. [break][break]

It intrigues her, but she doesn't bring it up.[break][break]

"Then perhaps you should continue searching - one peek won't show you anything. Ghosts are fickle things, after all. They seek attention and amusement. They like to play."[break][break]

Thea blinks once again as the woman turns back to face her. This time, however, her tone seems more accusatory or investigative. She takes no offense, and merely dips her head.[break][break]

"My name is Thea. I do apologize, however, I was unaware this place was closed off. I was merely curious."

Thea does a double-take as a young man comes to join her. He seems to fiddle with a red bandana covering his face. For a moment, she worries that she's involved herself in something gang-related, or that he knows more than she and there are particles of disease lingering in the air. Her nose crinkles in mild worry, but it appears that the man is more preoccupied with throwing his own Pokemon into the fray.[break][break]

While he releases a Lucario to batter the car further, Thea seems visibly out of place and awkward during this whole situation. Her Drifblim, however, is enthralled in the process of destruction. The GUST is repeated continuously, great joy being expressed as the vehicle continues to tumble and flip across the arena.[break][break]

Coupled with the strangers Lucario, it seems that they're already making considerable progress in the destruction of their assigned car. Thea still can't wrap her head around the excitement behind it. This was such a childish endeavor, what could possibly be the point?[break][break]

Thea doesn't speak up toward the stranger, perhaps more than a little uneasy with the bandana masking his identity. That part, perhaps, may have been the most peculiar thing about all of this. [break][break]

Thea's gaze follows Kosuke's to the stack of books still waiting to be sorted. She's sure she's detected a thread of relief settle on his shoulders, and it comes to fruition when he offers her a grateful smile and accepts her help. In response, the woman dips her head and takes a step to the side, allowing him unhindered passage.[break][break]

However, the man grabs a book that immediately catches her eye. She hesitates for only a moment before gesturing to the book in his hand.[break][break]

"Oh.. I can take that off your hands as well. Now, if you'll excuse me, sir."[break][break]

She offers what might be perceived as a shy smile, and, if Kosuke released the book to her, her eyes would twinkle with excitement before turning away. Thea disappears momentarily to retrieve a chair, or disappears behind the counter should that be the intent of her babysitting.[break][break]

Regardless, she settles in next to the incubator - even going so far as to offer the Espeon a seat in her lap - while disappearing into the book. For research.

While he speaks, Thea idly browses the neat and compact menu in front of her. She finds her fingers idly tracing the weave of the binding, the plastic covering. Nothing specific stands out to her so she figures she'll try whatever today's special is. She does, however, find herself drawn back to Asher the moment he mentions tackling an entire chocolate mousse cheesecake to himself.[break][break]

"A sweet tooth... very interesting."[break][break]

Despite her surprise at his confession, the woman chuckles quietly. She muses a moment longer on whether she'd like to try the fish and chips. She eventually brings herself back to Asher, unwilling to not admit her own thoughts on his choice in dessert.[break][break]

"Don't let me stop you, Mr. Leivern. In fact, I might indulge in a bite myself."[break][break]

She offers a wink just as the waiter returns to take their order. The promptness of this establishment is impeccable and she continues to be impressed and flattered by their politeness and hospitality.

It was merely happenstance that Thea would become June's partner. Thea Rhodes was not a ranger, nor was she assigned any sort of responsibility for the situation at hand. She had merely heard rumors that there might be a haunted plot of land, or home, or desecrated building of some sort. Ghosts had always fascinated the woman, so she had no qualms about making it her business.[break][break]

And, it did not surprise her in the slightest that someone from the League or otherwise was here as well with the intent to handle the supposed ghost problem. [break][break]

Thea clears her throat carefully as she approaches the redheaded woman from the side. Her hands are folded against her thighs, the slight wind catching her dress. June's exclamation is heard loud and clear, and Thea can't help but feel the slightest bit amused by the slight quake in her voice, or at least, the frustration she hears.[break][break]

"I'm not a ghost, I'm afraid. Is it true, then? There are ghosts here?"[break][break]

She hums under her breath, suddenly lost in thought as she glances off to the side as if drawn by something unseen. Her eyebrows knit together in concentration, but nothing of interest seems to show its face.

Cut Your Dreams In Half

Today's field trip had been unconventional, but not spontaneous. The region had become fascinated by the process of Slowpoke evolving by having their tails be bitten by a Shelder. It seemed as good an opportunity as any to show her students the wonderous process of evolution. It was raw and powerful, but even despite their youth she knew they could handle it.[break][break]

What she was not expecting, however, was for there to be a situation on the small island that was Mossdeep City. It appeared that a class of students were not the only ones interested in the process of Slowpoke evolution.[break][break]

Of course, she would not discover this malicious intent until much later. She was a relatively trusting person, and delving into a discreetly placed cave in the jungle-like terrain was already suspicious as it was. She was well aware that other people would likely be interested in the process.[break][break]

In fact, she would very likely mistake the two young men looking to pilfer the Slowpoke for themselves as educators. The woman would usher her students off to the side as she approached the first man - the blonde. With a polite dip of her chin, she would gesture to the kids anxiously waiting to see the magic happen.[break][break]

"We're here to observe from a distance, are you familiar with the process at all? The children could benefit from experts - I'm assuming you're well-versed in the evolution process."

Thea's intent was to merely pass through Petalburg city, perhaps stop along the way as a tourist might to buy trinkets to decorate her apartment in Lilycove. What she had not intended, however, was to be swept into a scene at a junkyard. [break][break]

The woman tucks her hands close to her as people brush past her. As if like a magnet, she seems to attract the younger scene to her skirts. A child, separated from the comfort of his mother, latches onto her dress. The woman looks down at a soft tug and witnesses the tears of a child, disoriented by the sudden crowd of people.[break][break]

It takes no time for the boys mother to collect him and thank her, and no sooner than that does Thea realize that there is a competition of sorts that requires participants to massacre and demolish a junked car. It seems... bizarre and immature - but somehow she's been pushed in to enter.[break][break]

"Wh-what? I don't--"[break][break]

But there are people expecting a show and she's flabbergasted and overwhelmed. As if on cue, the woman's Drifblim appears, floating above the crowd to rejoin Thea. It seems as though she is more than willing to participate in this act of careless fun, and she promptly empties the entirety of her blimp body out in a powerful GUST, sending the vehicle rolling and tumbling.[break][break]

Glass shatters and the crowd cheers.[break][break]

For the first time in a while, Thea has ditched the dress. The rigid attire and properness of her appearance has been replaced with practicality in the form of form-fitting yoga pants or leggings and a tank top. There's a backpack strapped between her shoulders full of essentials: mostly water.[break][break]

There's a sheen to her skin in the form of sunscreen, but even despite the protection, the heat seems to be wearing her down. Her fair skin is flushed with heat from the sun. More than likely she's already burning.[break][break]

Thea Rhodes is stubborn, however. She had told herself she would climb to the top of Mt. Pyre (or at least as high as she possibly could). Hoenn was fascinating and beautiful and she fully intended to experience as much of it as she could.[break][break]

For now, though, the woman clutched her knees and stooped over to catch her breath. She breathes slowly through her nose before glancing up at the young woman standing not far away.[break][break]

"You alright? We can slow down if you need. There's water in my pack, too."

With a subtle brush of her tongue across her top lip, she catches the moisture from her drink before setting the glass down in front of her. It leaves a ring of moisture on the table, and she idly folds a napkin to act as a coaster.[break][break]

She listens while Asher speaks to her, while he agrees with her. The woman nods along in understanding, pleased that he was willing to do as she asked of him. [break][break]

"If you don't mind, that would be wonderful. You're a wonderful teacher, it would be an honor to learn a little bit myself."[break][break]

Her lips curl in a soft, painfully polite smile. She seems almost like a porcelain doll, her expression hardly ever changing from her soft kindness. Her eyes are what truly express her emotion - and even that is a guessing game. [break][break]

"Now.." she chuckles softly, her voice easily captured by the wind. "What would you recommend from their lunch menu?"

At the mention of 'I'll have the name popular enough', Thea visibly seems surprised. Her eyebrows raise and she folds her hands in her lap to stifle the confusion in her posture. Instead, the woman clears her throat and opts to leave it as it is, especially given how quickly the man jumps to the topic that has brought them together as it is.[break][break]

"Yes, just the basics. They're young but it's never too early to show them that the world is bigger than they might think. Of course, it's important to maintain their childhood and innocence, but I believe that a lesson or two might be incredibly beneficial to their early development. Something for them to think about in passing."[break][break]

The waiter returns swiftly with their drinks and Thea opts to take a quick sip. She savors the cold against her lip and the ocean breeze that tugs her loose blonde hairs across her cheek. It forces her to pause and truly appreciate the atmosphere and comfort of their seating. This had been a wonderful idea.
