There is a noise akin to a mewling pup, and Thea's attention shifts to the now-retreating form of an Alolan-variant Vulpix. It's six tails bounce as it flees. The timid nature of the young Pokemon comes as a result of Delphox's bobbing wand of fire. It was of no issue for the woman, as the tiny fox Pokemon was not what she was searching for, nor did she have the time to train another young Pokemon.[break][break]

Though her eyes squint temporarily as she considers how useful it could have been, had the Pokemon stayed for longer than a breath, to capture it for one of her students.[break][break]

"Another time, perhaps. Come along, Delphox, we should keep moving."[break][break]

The dual-type dips their head, dress skirts shifting as she takes to following her master. Thea exhales, her breath frosting before her eyes. She hums to herself quietly, eyes searching the dimness of the cavern ahead of her.[break][break]

The woman at the mouth of Shoal cave stands stiffly, with her over-sized scarf wrapped around her shoulders. She tucks it over her nose, protecting her skin from the bite of the cold.[break][break]

With the winter months arriving in Hoenn, the area was much colder than normal. It was the perfect time to find the maiden she had been searching for. [break][break]

Her Drifblim deflates when icy wind blows from the cave. Whatever hot-air remains in the ghost-type is immediately replaced with the cold, and Thea glances at the Pokemon briefly before whisking it back into its pokeball.[break][break]

Instead, she sends out a Delphox. The Pokemon's wand ignites, and she holds it out for the woman, not to take, but to stand next to. It illuminates the cave and the icy walls within, and grants them both some semblance of warmth.[break][break]

"Well then... shall we?"[break][break]

He squeaks and she is immediately taken back to a younger, softer Alexei, tugging at her coat-tails and peering up at her with round, adoring eyes. He hadn't changed at all, it seems, as he throws his arms around her in a warm embrace. Thea hesitates only because physical affection is foreign to her, and she hasn't had anyone hug her quite so strongly in a long time. She does, however, hug him back.[break][break]

And she listens as he babbles into her shoulder, as he questions her, pours out his heart. Thea rubs his back, though her movements are awkward at first as she falls back into old rhythms. Thea exhales softly as he pulls away finally to look at her, and her hand immediately rises to brush hair out of his eyes and stroke his cheek.[break][break]

"I've been in Galar, teaching, and I was just transferred here to teach at the Pokemon Battle Academy in Lilycove. I'm fine, great, honestly, and--"[break][break]

Her eyes widen in surprise.[break][break]

"Adelaide is here, too? What a strange weave of fate, to have brought us all together again."[break][break]

The woman smiles, removing her hand from his cheek to rest at her side again.[break][break]

"Wahh!"[break][break]

Just as she reaches down into the water, a gigantic splash nearly takes her under the waves entirely. Out of nowhere pops up a gigantic Gyarados, it's scream loud enough to churn the water. The woman scrambles back and away from the edge, heart pounding in her chest. The last thing she needed was to be eaten by a Gyarados trying to help a bunch of Corsola not get eaten.[break][break]

Wait-- did she hear someone speaking? Referring to the Gyarados by a name? Thea hesitates, still clutching her chest. Her Delphox is thoroughly drenched and disgusted, waving her damp stick around fruitlessly. Her hair is flattened to her body, and she shakes herself violently off to the side. Thea blinks, searching for the voice, only to see that it belonged to a young man in the air, on the back of a blue Braviary.[break][break]

"What?"[break][break]

But he's yelling for her to brace herself, and she whistles for Delphox to come to her as they make a break for it. The twister is violent but successful, mostly, in clearing away the toxin in the water. In a last-ditch effort, the Delphox has attempted to pull the Corsola caught in the twister to her with another psychic. [break][break]

"Be careful, there are Pokemon still in the water!"[break][break]

Thea winks in response to the man's praise, a small smile spreading across her lips. Her attention remains on him as he explains Spam and the brief history of it. [break][break]

"Then I suppose I will leave Spam to the experts."[break][break]

And now her interest is absolutely piqued by the true Schrodinger's Spam. Would this place deliver high-quality dishes that Oscar was expecting? Or would it totally suck?[break][break]

By the smell of the plates of delicious-looking food passing their table, weaving in and out, and the smiling faces of the recipients.. she had a good feeling this restaurant was the real deal. [break][break]

Drinks are the first to arrive, and Thea nods gently with a whispered thank-you before taking a sip. The moment she sets it down, however, Oscar draws her attention back to him in the form of a pointed question. She smiles, genuinely surprised and elated that he even asked. [break][break]

"Well.. I teach a broad scope of topics, honestly -- mostly the basics. They're just kids, so the majority of my time is honestly spent with real-world skills teaching. Reading, writing, that sort of thing. But I teach at a Pokemon Battle Academy, so my specialty is offensive battle strategizing."[break][break]

Thea gasps as the sharp spines of Corsola bump against her hands. One after another, she manages to haul them up out of the water. Some are so disoriented that they jump back in, and it becomes apparent that she'll need to handle the poison seeping into the water rather than worry about evacuating these Pokemon. Sweat brims on her brow as she leans back, desperation making her hands shake as she forces herself to focus.[break][break]

"Okay, Thea, breathe. It'll be okay. Poison, poison."[break][break]

And then she reaches for her belt, picking two pokeballs. They open to reveal two psychic-type Pokemon. Her Dottler bumbles around clumsily, the shining lights of her shell sparking and glowing. The Delphox seems downright disgusted to be so near the water, but she comes to attention at Thea's firm voice. The woman is so hyper-focused on her task that she doesn't even notice the shadow over her, the voice muffled above the wind.[break][break]

"I need you both to push the poison back. Don't let it touch you or any of the Corsola. You can combat it, your psychic abilities will be extremely effective in destroying the poisonous properties."[break][break]

Delphox leads by example, channeling her PSYCHIC to destroy and push back the water and with it, the poison. Dottler does her best to follow suit, though her strength is nowhere near as powerful as Delphox. In the meantime, however, Thea resumes scooping nearby Corsola to the best of her ability.

One hand tucks silver-blonde hair behind her ear, the other sets her bubble tea on the arm of the bench. She gets to work promptly, opening textbooks and jotting down notes in a journal, details about her next lesson. It was nigh indecipherable and full of strike-throughs and messy scribbles. She's deep in thought as the boy approaches, and, at first, she doesn't even give him a second glance.[break][break]

Not until he speaks up, that is.[break][break]

The woman's eyes find his briefly as he stumbles over his question and she feels her brows coming together in an exasperated expression of mild irritation. Couldn't people just spit it--[break][break]

"Lexi?"[break][break]

She knew that indecipherable stutter, that senseless babble, those pale lavender eyes. It was like looking in a mirror. Thea shifts her books off her lap to rise to her feet, exhaling softly and with awe as she looks him over. Her expression melts from cold indifference to recognition and warmth, and she shakes her head.[break][break]

Thea chuckles at his nonchalant response, offering him a 'disappointed-but-not-surprised' sort of amused head shake. Fortunately, his burns weren't severe at all, more like sun burns. She probably had some aloe vera in her purse -- gotta come prepared for sunburn, after all.[break][break]

"They'll give you something alright - I think it's called cancer, not character."[break][break]

She thinks nothing of his cocked expression due to her earlier comment. The woman was a school teacher who taught Pokemon combat techniques and the like - she wasn't a gym teacher. The whole physical exercise thing wasn't her forte, she had no stamina and no upper body strength. [break][break]

Thea smiles at him thoughtfully as he turns the concern back to her. What a sweetheart.[break][break]

"I've been just fine. Caught up on my readings, enjoyed some sun. It's been a lovely time at the beach."[break][break]

She watches as the man puts the Zeraora down and smiles fondly as it runs up to the Tyrantitar - though she is a little bit stiff about it. Was that safe? Apparently so, as the gigantic Pokemon has a soft spot for babies, apparently. [break][break]

In a dramatic turn of events, she watches from a distance (safety first) as Oscar tackles the fire-dancing mini event. It's a disaster, honestly, as she expected. Playing with fire? On a hot day? At the beach? With no proper safety equipment on scene? [break][break]

And when she saw him catch fire she squeaked in surprise, rushing to find some water, anything to help him. She's got a bucket down by the water, filling it, charging back - but she's bumped into his Tyranitar who must have forgotten she was waiting by his things too, or had mistaken her bucket of water as a threat to his personal hygiene.[break][break]

She holds the water defensively against her chest, now, just in case he has anything planned. She will not hesitate to douse him if he makes one wrong move.[break][break]

But Oscar shows up in time to call off his attack dog and make light of the situation. And.. he's carrying a tiny kitten in his arms. In one fell swoop she sets down her water bucket to approach him, her voice a melting mixture of awe and sweet nothings.[break][break]

"All is forgiven after seeing this sweet face."[break][break]

Thea glances up at Oscar with a smile, before that smile melts into recognition of concern. She tugs at his burned clothing, mindlessly checking him for burns and wounds. [break][break]

"You alright, Oscar? I tried to come to your aid sooner with water, but... there's a reason I didn't participate in any of those pokeathlon events."[break][break]

Oscar leans in as she asks about his hometown, and she chuckles nervously, overwhelmed a bit by the sudden increase in attention - or perhaps the intensity of it.[break][break]

"A seashore house? That sounds so fancy, I might be envious."[break][break]

Imagine living by the water and listening to the waves crash every morning and night. Yeah -- that'd be the life, alright.[break][break]

"I just recently moved here as well! I'm from Unova originally, lived there with my family until I was around 16 or 17, then I hit the road and traveled to Galar to follow my passion for teaching. Never looked back. I've been relocated here for the forseeable future - not sure if it'll be permanent, but I'm enjoying what I've got."[break][break]

Her attention slides to the fire on the dance floor, her eyes widening with surprise and possible unease. Was that safe? What if it spread somehow to the tablecloths? She exhales quickly as Oscar continues speaking, and only then does she realize that the waiter is asking for her order. She blushes, reclining in her seat and quickly deciding to just copy what her date has ordered.[break][break]

"Same thing for me, please," and to Oscar, directly, she smiles: "I've never had that, I'm intrigued."[break][break]

She is, however, thankful for Oscar's attempt to stall the waiter and make her hesitation and absent-mindedness less embarrassing. What a sweetheart.[break][break]

As it so happens, Thea is waiting just ahead of Alexei at the quaint little milk tea stand. She's ordered her favourite: honeydew. The woman's voice is soft as she thanks the server and exchanges money for delicious sweetness. But when she turns, she bumps into the young man behind her briefly. It's clear that her attention is scattered, however, because although their eyes meet, she's looking right through him.[break][break]

"Oops - clumsy me, sorry."[break][break]

But that is all that she says as she returns to the bench beneath an overarching tree. It provides ample shade for reading, and it's out of the way of the children that run back and forth in the center. She shoulders her bag of studying materials to settle in and get to work. On occasion, the woman lifts her bubble tea to her lips for a brief sip.[break][break]
