INTRODUCTION

ON THE GOLDEN SANDS OF SLATEPORT'S SHORE, tourists and vacationers bring their summer colours. like glistening embroidery, vibrant beach umbrellas, funky beach towels, and citrus-bright inflatables dot the beach. sounds of laughter and splashing are carried by the briny winds, winds. wingull descend from those salty scarves to peck at discarded crumbs or to steal food from the hands of beach-goers.[break][break][break]

vendors from the newly reconstructed slateport market have moved onto the beach. stalls selling seashell accessories, snacks and drinks beckon for the prospective parched patron. closer to slateport city, there is a seashell stage with a microphone and speakers ready. the pokeathlon games will be announced there— and musicians are expected to conduct performances throughout the day.[break][break][break]

MINI-GAME #1: WATERMELON

furthermore, mini games are set up all around the beach. volleyball nets are set and busy with those attempting to become king of the courts or the ultimate decoy— while a watermelon rests nearby on top of a thin clamperl-patterned sheet. long wooden sticks are held by a thwackey presiding over this game of suikawari (watermelon splitting).[break][break][break]

In midst the festivities, the thwackey's trainer calls out for challengers, "COME AND SPLIT THE WATERMELON! WE'LL BLINDFOLD YA, SPIN YA AROUND THREE TIMES, AND HOPE TO ALL HOENN YOUR HIT MAKES YOUR MARK!"[break][break][break]

the goal is to strike the watermelon with power and precision so that the fruit can be broken apart for eating.[break][break][break]

a hot tub and lazy river have been set up. furthermore, a beachside bar with a thatched roof provides shade and refreshment for those of legal age. pokemon meander around the beach— including wild species interested in partaking in the party and perhaps, interested in finding a new home...[break][break][break]

this beach party is a mega thread, meaning there are no separate threads and everyone posts in this single thread.
your character may interact with other characters in this thread; however, always remember common courtesies of roleplaying.
all of your characters may participate in this event; however, only for each mini-game only one character of yours can participate. however, if you possess another character, they may participate in the next mini-game instead of the previous character, etc.

SUIKAWARI (WATERMELON SPLITTING)

you do not need to participate in this mini-game.
if you participate, please indicate that your character is rolling for the suikawari mini-game in notes.
choose one of your characters to participate by rolling to hit! if you roll at least 60 and higher (roll requirement), your character will have successfully struck & split the watermelon! they only have once chance.
bonuses from the drink menu apply, and your character may win possible rewards.
there is no specified deadline for the watermelon splitting mini-game, but once the next mini-game arrives, the watermelon splitting mini-game can not be participated in.

The blindfold was over Kaida's eyes. How had she gotten here? [break][break]

Right. Because the Pachirisu Float looked completely delectable (and yes, it was), and she had found coming here without a swimsuit didn't exactly make her blend in. With her focus on saving money for food, one would think that she didn't have any swimsuits, but those people would be wrong. For aquatic missions, she had a suit. Not a bikini, just a one piece swimsuit, but she didn't think she stood out too much. Perhaps showed off the scarring on her back and arms a little too much, but she didn't notice most of the people caught staring. [break][break]

Her Pokemon frolicked in the sand and ocean, except for Kjoll, who she hadn't found a large enough space for him on the crowded beach. Avoiding the people who took today as a drinking day, Kaida wandered near the watermelon splitting and, in an act that surprised herself, spoke, "I wanna split it." [break][break]

So here she was, salivating over the taste of something sweet to eat, she raised the stick over her head and swung her dizzy self at the watermelon. [break][break]

it's hard to be caught staring when the person has a blindfold over their eyes. her similar hair color draws him in but the scars on her back and arms keep his attention. he sips on the poppin' pachirisu float, sucking the ice cold liquid through the swirly straw. it tastes refreshing, but not nearly as refreshing as this watermelon.[break][break]

lance steps up next to Kaida Adachi just as she successfully finishes her attempt. her strike was precise and forceful, and the chunks of watermelon prove just that. "good strike," he compliments. he sets down his drink and picks up a slice from her and eats it while they blindfold him. he is spun around three times.[break][break]

his grip tightens on the wooden stick as he brings it down at the watermelon, whacking it in an attempt to split it.[break][break]

Stormy arrived on time and absolutely ready to party. There was a drink stand handing out taste testers and apparently the pachi-popper whatsit was the drink of the night. She indulged eagerly, more than happy to take advantage of the free shit.[break][break]

She could already see a crowd forming around the first mini-game of the night. With the enticing and electrified fruity taste of her drink, she would practically bounce up to the opportunity to smash the watermelon.[break][break]

"What's this? A chance to beat Lance Vollans in a competition? Hell yes, I'm down."[break][break]

Of course, the woman also offers a cheery greeting to Kaida Adachi, pointing at their matching drinks and making it very clear that she was enjoying it and hoped she was too.[break][break]

But she'd set her glass down for a moment in order to rub her hands together. And then she let someone else blindfold her before she took aim and tried to smash the watermelon. Dizziness both from sipping her drink too fast and from being spun around too many times makes her wobbly and giggly - but she does her best anyway.[break][break]

Clad in a black tank and dark blue shorts with white alolan flower print, the black-haired royal sets his pachirisu float down on the bar counter before hopping off his stool to stretch his arms. The drink was far sweeter than he'd imagined, and not his usual taste. But it certainly had him feeling energized. Enough so that he was compelled to join in on the fun of the watermelon splitting contest.

Slipping his feet out of his sandals, he turns over his shoulder to regard the carefully clad belle sitting under the shade of the tiki bar. "Mind covering Herschel's eyes, love? He doesn't appear to be taking this all too well." He plainly remarks, shifting his eyes to the green Applin sitting on the stool between them. The latest watermelon to be whacked has rendered it rather... astonished.

Regardless, Remiel saunters over to grab one of the long sticks for himself. Placing himself in front of a watermelon he has claimed as his target, the young royal plants his feet firmly into the sand, denoting his experience with martial arts and fencing. There is an exhale... then a smooth inhale. Then, in one fell swoop, he strikes down.

"screw your stick!" exclaimed the dragon tamer. with just his fist he'd aim to smash the watermelon, "let me show you how a pro does it, hi-yah!" and, to no surprise, due to being blindfolded mateo would accidentally come to hurt his hand upon missing. he needed a nurse.

There were a few known faces around, Skyler thought, spying Lance and Stormy somewhere between the throngs of people having fun at the beach party.

She kept losing them in the crowd though. Were they turning invisible or somethin'?

Skyler frowned and looked down at her mostly empty drink, a pachirisu-something that had looked kind of dubious at first, but that in all honesty was delicious. The little colorful umbrella was sagging to the side and looked kind of sad. Maybe she should get another one of those?

She noticed the banner at first, swaying in the gentle wind. Then she heard the shouted words 'split the watermelon' and she suddenly was pushing her way through the crowd, her excitement making her leave a few disgruntled people in her wake. Her sad, empty drink was pushed to the back of her mind as she took her turn trying to smash the watermelon.

This was something she was an expert in. She grinned at the other contestants and popped her knuckles, grinning madly. "Watch this," she told them, blindfold in place.

She was totally going to ace this.

Ruby had to admit, this was exactly what she had pictured from Hoenn when she first arrived all those months ago. Back then, however, it had been covered in snow, something she had learned was incredibly uncommon for the region. However, she was quickly discovering that the heat was not super agreeable with her. Galarian weather was a bit more modest, colder temperatures on average. This heat was certainly a bit too much for her, but even she would feel quite foolish for missing a wonderful beach party.

Slateport had, whether she truly realized it or not, had almost become a second home to her. Seeing all these people happy, playing in the sand, swimming in the water, it brought a smile to her face. Seeing the market restored alone was a beautiful reminder that no matter what happened, they'd keep persevering. A day of fun to bring joy to everyone's face was such a beautiful sight. Like chicken soup for the poor saint's soul.

Wearing a simple one-piece swimsuit, paired with a wide sunhat and her purse, Ruby felt a tad bit awkward. She never worried about how she looked before, but within Slateport of all places, she felt the odd need to attempt to present herself in a more mature light. She was just a few months from being 17 after all, and 17 was almost an adult. Standing by herself for a while, Ruby's gaze traveled across the beach as she sipped away at her float. Honestly, the cool drink was incredibly satisfying, kind of tasting a bit fruity.

Eventually, Ruby's gaze was grabbed by the people who attempted the watermelon smashing contest. She saw nothing of it at first, but after seeing a few people she recognized take a crack at it, mainly both Stormy Silph and Remiel Calcifet , she finally decided to give it a go as well. With a quiet smile, she pushed her way into the line. Giggling a bit at the adorable Thwackey, Ruby took a stick as she was spun around and blindfolded. Taking a moment to attempt to reorient herself, she held the stick high behind her and slammed it down with all the force she could possibly attempt to muster.

It was the day when Selena was wearing her favorite two-piece, shirts off, and a Poppin’ Pachirisu float on her left hand.

Raijin and the other hounds particularly enjoyed the long walks at the beach as their owner bathed underneath the Hoenn sun. The recently evolved boltund had been playing for hours with the espeon and umbreon when their trainer got intrigued by the long queue on the nearby watermelon station. Selena saw Kaida Adachi and gave her a big wave from the other hand, sipping into her cocktail as she approached the line.

“Guess I’ll try this one, too,” the Kalosian had the blindfold cover her eyes and followed their instructions before slashing into the watermelon.

Selena hoped she still got strength with her arms. All those days of writing would be put to waste if no muscle was built to help her smash these watermelons.

He was gonna trade 'em. [break][break]

That's exactly what he was thinking as he was not standing in front of a watermelon with a blindfold over his one good eye as the right side of his face was already covered with his bandanna to cover his scar. There he was enjoying the nice little Floral Punch, in the shade away from the crowd. Razz even made sure to wear clothing more appropriate to the summer with swim shorts, no shirt, but a windbreaker jacket with the hood up to still protect himself from the sun. He was comfortable until the little game was announced and his twin cats decided among themselves that it would be a great idea to get him involved. Razz just wanted to hide in the background, barely even gave the people around a glace to see if he knew anyone he was so intent on keeping low. [break][break]

Yet here he was now playing a game that even the sailor girl he met missed, how was he suppose to? Though with his Meowstic cheering for him louder than wingull chirped for food he figured he would give it a shot as he lifted the stick with one hand and swiped it down, honestly not expecting much.

dominic sets down the drinks he was carrying for himself and his some cohort of companions with a delicacy that is atypical for him. maybe it's heatstroke or maybe it's some latent competitive edge or maybe - and its most likely this - its a result of all the other more acloholic drinks he's consumed, but something about the glistening watermelons beckons to him.

that doesn't stop him from hissing when the vendor makes contact with him to spin him three times.

he had come with noah faber with hopes that the gym leader will take in all the social interaction he'll need to face, but things go wrong when he lets noah choose their beverages at the bar under the premise that it's on him.

"i told ya your drink's on me! no need to worry, noah baby."

he plants a kiss on noah's temple before he releases his arm around his neck. soon after, he takes a sip of the poppin' pachirisu float and finishes most of it in one sip. brain freeze doesn't stop him from doing what he wants, however.

groggy eyes sees a line forming. ever curious, kyle nudges noah to come with him for the line. "ooh! we're going there!" he drags him with him, and when it gets to his turn, he takes the last drops of the drink and hands noah the empty glass.

"this one's for you," he tells him in a low, more serious voice before going in, taking a stick as he was being blindfolded, and going for a go at the watermelon.

"Well damn Dom."

The hissing was comical and Abner showed as much by his laughter. When it was his turn, he playfully nipped at the air and successfully startled the guy spinning him. Once he was finished spinning, he used a drop kick instead of his hands... if that was even allowed, oh well.

Normally, Lars didn’t like the hot weather—which was ironic in itself considering he’d been living in Hoenn his entire life. Sure, he could tolerate late spring to early summer, however when it was mid-summer he wanted nothing more than to hide somewhere in a place where there was air conditioning and never go out unless the sun had gone down.

Of course, today wasn’t that day—at least, not yet.

It was still the late spring-early summer phase of the changing seasons, and this was the part of summer he could readily tolerate. Looking over at his arms, he wondered if he needed to apply more sun block. He was trying to get some kind of a suntan going, but then again…

Well, well… watermelon splitting? Not exactly one of my best, but… he thought as he took a Poppin’ Pachirisu Float and downed the contents in one go. It tasted really nice, just the right bite and tang of blue lemonade and what he could distinctly pick out as…

Sneaky, he thought with a grin as he made his way over to where the next watermelon had been placed, and taking a swing at it.
