Turning to Melody Miro he considered her offer but only for an instant. "Thank you, but there's no need." Prim had her noise cancelling headphones and her pacifier and bottle.

She wouldn't be making noise and she wouldn't be hearing much of anything. Not that she could remember anyway.

"Hey," like kim cole-essam had done to him moments before, a hand fell on Melody's shoulder. He didn't know what was going on with her but she seemed to be going through it, and trying to stay above water. "I just want you to know..." He squeezed her shoulder gently and with a supportive warmth.

"I haven't forgotten about that steak you owe me."

He was probably misremembering who owed who but whatever.

Back to the general vibe in the air that his daughter's presence here was worth their negative attention.

It was rude to voice the reminder that in the league hierarchy, individually speaking only the commissioner herself had any authority over him.

Historically dahlia goode tended to trust his instincts. Or at the very least, she always gave him enough rope to hang himself and he never seemed to. He was good like that.

If he had to guess she'd likely enter to see a room full of adults making more fuss over an infant than the infant was making over them, then insist they get on with the meeting.

He gave it 5:1 odds.

It only took him a moment to process the rules; hit the target, dunk the diva.

Catching the pokeball with one hand a few times over to kinetically familiarize himself with its weight and texture he pin-pointed the place in which he ball was supposed to hit.

For sport, he closed his eyes before he threw the ball.

Katherine's expression twisted into something horrid, it was the first ugly face he'd ever seen her make.

Who knew she hated kids so much? "I did hit my head, the last time; twice," He'd been hospitalized for weeks.

He knocked on the side of his own head, inhuman hearing would pick up the sound of flesh and bone knocking on alloy. "Don't be such a big shot that you don't read the mission reports."

Katherine's smugness reminded him of his sister's. She would have probably said the same thing to him if she were here, but both she and Katherine could eat it.

He appreciated the controlled volume Doug used, although his sense of urgency wasn't missed. Senon took in the once-youngster's words with the same soft consideration that cradled his little girl.

Turning to JD he gave the shortest semblance of reassurance that his niece would be fine. "She insisted."

Separation Anxiety wasn't uncommon in infants but when Cait wasn't around, her mini-me didn't let Senon out of her sight without having a meltdown.

Firmly, in affirmation, he patted Kim's hand that braced his shoulder. He appreciated the offer but he literally couldn't take it. "There's nothing we can do now Kim, you have to steer into the skid." Maybe they didn't have many cars in Alola, Kim was from Alola wasn't he?

Tucking her curly hair back into her cap he carefully, "Hold this one would ya?" handed Primrose over to John as he sat the tote on the seat next to Melody Miro only just now noticing her lack of luster.

The radiant star, seemingly collapsing? But why tho?

The collection of dirty looks he got reminded him of the expressions aggressive pokemon gave when he had to remove them as an invasive species from an environment.

They didn't like it, but it wasn't their decision to make.

It was strange to see the lot of them again all in one place.

It seemed to hit him all at once that he'd hoped there would never be another of these things again. Yet, come hell or high water the non-Avatar Head Ranger wasn't going to miss an assembly.

Even if the timing didn't quite match up. Try as he might to keep it to himself, the oversized duffel-bag/gym-tote he fashioned into a diaper-bag/prim-tote gave it away.

Not withstanding the actual sleeping Primrose in his arm.

Without sitting down and spending entire seconds on each, he studied the faces of gathered one by one. With his own disposition somewhere between wary and adamant.

Faces from his younger days (MATIAS SILPH , Razz Kingsman ) and even his colder half (Laurence Anderson ) would likely find the fiery smoulder familiar.

Those with the open invitations to the cabin had the insight to pay it no mind (kim cole-essam , John Sullivan ).

Yet, even those unfamiliar would find themselves on the receiving end of it.

It was information he could only get in the here and now.

He wanted to read the faces of the people in this room.

The League's (and the God's) finest; a gathering of people almost as reckless and as stupid as he was. Each of them had the white strands of hair to prove it. All except one.

He was still surprised about Elinor Anderson 's abrupt positioning.

It was only the sleeping jostling of his daughter in his arms that broke him away from his hawked staring.

With all the trouble kicking about it wasnt hard to believe that the Head Ranger had largely lost focus on his charm.

a charm mysteriously tied to mesprit; a symbol embroidered on its surface

The bulk of his focus was on the ground and what was bursting out from beneath. A killer photon just barely missed himself, shattering his glowing red pokemon into golden splinters of light.

When the splinters faded into the darkness his pokemon was gone and the vicinity became overrun with powered up pokemon of his allies.

Reaching for a pokeball he sought to call another to the field.

The ZEN HEADBUTT came down to fast for Dosé to quickly guard against a second time.

It clobbered him into something of a daze as his head rang like a bobblehead.

He only managed to shake it off in time enough for a second attempt at REVENGE.

It didn't have an psychic power behind it but Dosé's headbutt was delivered in earnest.

By the time the next creepy whisper came to his mind...

NEW ENEMIES

His charm was putting on a full blown concert to whoever was willing to give it the attention.

The fizzle and pops were intense but the symbolic circle on the ground was doing far more to grab his focus. The circle, or the charm, or some combination of the two made for an other-wordly pressure on his person.

He might have felt it about his whole body but his mind locked to fixate on the mounting pressure inside his head. It felt like there was a pokéball in his brain and if he didn't resist with full physical effort over his own sinus' and skull, the ball would open and release the end of his life.

He wasn't so worn that he would roll over and let fate have its victory. With charmed hand he clutched his formerly-wounded temple powering through the crushing cerebral pain.

If he could hold on to what was important, he could survive this thing. Luckily for him, holding on to her came naturally. Even her guaranteed reprimands of his actions couldn't sully that feeling of needing her near.

Two of the new Gym Leaders; Georgette Bluebottle and Beau Fontaine made their way near, blue lights emanating from their wrist as they closed in.

As they entered the circle the pain subsided. Gwyar Wledig and even Thomas Benoit came into his proximity, two men he knew but hadn't seen in over a year's time, not that he recognized Thomas behind his disguise.

Eventually, like one ring to rule them all, he hoisted his blaring wrist into the sky above his head, giving (Thomas) and Gwyar some physical signal to keep near and pay attention.

Through it all Coalossal remained steadfast even as the Head Ranger broke from its cover. The both of them seeing the appearance of that thing as well as yvelthal, for a second time each. If he'd known Adrian Malcolm association with the latter, he might have been more on edge than he currently was. He managed to catch (Thomas) giving the bird? a nasty look but gave no further thought to the matter.

With everyone grouped up, even for but a moment, he was given room to ask. "Is anyone hurt?"

Rangers protected the balance between the People, the Pokémon, the Places and the Paperwork. This incident was going to be more about the most former of the four, and also the most latter.

The pain shot through the frogs arms as he managed to block the psychically charged headbutt. His arms felt heavy but when he willed them to move, they still moved.

The fighting frog took the follow-up; a flaming fist, face first, The croagunk's skin drying out to the point of cracking.

The fiery punch had less power behind it than the Headbutt, the difference made the Poison/Fighting type weary of warding off another headbutt from a head that size.

In a fit of REVENGE Dosé wiped the bit of blood from its TOXIC MOUTH using its fist before throwing that same bloodied fist at the gut of the Darmanitan.

With his arms still crossed Sénon watched on as Dose made his own creative battle decisions.

Cheeky as he was, Dosé wasn't yet all he could be while the Head Ranger kept him restricted to the species he was born unto.

For as long he was Croagunk rather than Toxicroak, Dosé was slower, weaker and less reactive than he otherwise could have been.

In a martial arts bout like this one without full access to his poison moveset, the Croagunk was at an indisputable size disadvantage. Case in point...

Being so much smaller than its opponent a BULK UP might not have done the trick; it was forced to defend from the incoming ZEN HEADBUTT with a QUICK GUARD instead.

It took more time than he'd intended to make his weekly run on Mt. Chimney. Working his way down the jagged pass he was half-shocked to find the fleeting gathering of Absol.

Quickly shaking off what he thought was an inexplicable gathering of that other canine pokémon species with white bodies and a funny looking heads (silvally).

Once he realized what he was looking at he shook off the thoughts of bad omens.

Being Cinabarian, his go-to thoughts of natural disasters went more in the styling of an overactive volcano, which was fitting considering the Jagged Pass connected the Fiery Path to Mt Chimney to the rest of Hoenn.
