Hanging back on he let Anderson take point.

He was more experienced and had a legendary power to call upon. Sénon would be support and extra muscle.

"There it is." A large fire pit seemed to be what they were fighting over.

He counted at least four species of dragon-types having had it out down below but all that remained were a squabbling two. They looked strong enough but neither could beat a whole team of well trained 'dragon-killers'.

If that was the case, Anderson didn't need support. The both of them could each take down one thrashing dragon.

"Which one do you want?" He asked, reaching for a pokéball of his own.

If there was a saving grace to any of this it was that seemingly Togedemaru had been battling in the wilds and under Sénon longer than the Pumpkin King over there had been battling in the wilds and under Adrian.

Togedemaru was simply further developed and that was why they would win by the skin of their teeth.

Strategically, Adrian's hand was stronger.

Sénon didn't kick himself too much, he had chosen his pokémon first giving Adrian room to come up with a perfect counter, which he did.

If their pokémon had both been on the same level, it would have been the ranger's loss.

"Fell Stinger, now!"

He'd have to sharpen his game if he didn't want to fall behind.

Togedemaru used Fell Stinger!

Kingdra waded the waters bobbing and swaying with the waves.

It never stopped locking in on its target.

Even when it look the lashing to the face, its body coiled back in pain and its face whelped a diagonal line from the damage.

It only made the sea dragon focus harder. A sniper waiting for its moment.

Dragons were of the few pokémon types that didn't need much motivation to really attack each other without relent. Ice types were another that were most effective against their own kind.

Somewhat uniquely Kingdra was one of the few dragons that didn't have an aversion to ice-attacks.

Which was why...

"Ice Beam!" His own Goodra couldn't beat Kingdra.

Kingdra used Ice Beam!

Sniper ability boosted Critical Hit damage!}

A critical hit was bad, a 'sniper' enhanced critical hit was worse, a 'sniper' enhanced critical hit on the back of a super effective attack typing.

If that Goodra wasn't knocked out, Sénon would buy the man two drinks.

Paced as they were the magmutts came to life when they saw a little edible thing scuttle past.

Nearly running down Sénon to get to it he scolded them to heel as their 'snack' jumped into his arms.

"Hmmmmm." He put a hand on the back of the trembling little chimp as she buried her face in his arm, silently begging for him to protect her. "That was easier than normal."

Up until now he hadn't given the variable of battle rules much thought. He was a bit itched for a double battle.

"Double Battle? Monferno only?" There was another thought...

"Would you-know-who make an appearance for a mere pokémon battle?" Personally Sénon still didn't know who 'you know who' was. Apparently Cait did, but it wasn't for him to ask Cait to share Lars' business that he confided in her.

He didn't really want to battle whatever fabled pokémon choose Anderson as their human proxy, but how could he not ask?

There was no accounting for timing.

The two of them had more chemistry than timing. Even now it felt more true than ever.

He could hear her body calling out to him. He could also hear his gut telling him he heard what he wanted to hear. It bothered him to even put her in such sentimental light. Their time together was turbulent and fast-paced and predictably, it exploded.

She escaped in the smoke and she left him standing in the epicenter.

He wasn't mad at her or resentful, he didn't feel abandoned or betrayed or even used. He only felt guilty for letting go of something he never had. Which meant, his guilt was misplaced.

Time gave him the clarity to see they'd somehow caught lightning in a bottle on that ship, but ultimately it was just a flash in the pan.

"Hey yourself." It was sickening how much better she looked. Considering he broke his rule against redheads for her before it was safe to say her current look was alarming him given she was no slouch in the looks department before. "You look good." He was underselling it.

When his tantrum subsided Terawr finally turned back to Sénon for guidance.

Feeling the outstanding desire to teach the prehistoric pup a lesson, Sénon turned his gaze from the tyrunt. Forcing it battle by its own wits.

Of course thinking wouldn't lead most tyrunt to victory and terawr was just barely smart enough to rely on his instincts. Instinctual processing told him stomping about again wouldn't work.

Digging his meaty thighs and feet into the sand the runt cleared a vertical leap to take it above the Luxray and fall down right atop it. Its spiky head protrusion being used as a ramming horn, with a little help from gravity.

Good question. Most of what he'd come to do, he'd done.

He was waiting for a final few documents to be drafted up and signed but it was all standard renewals and he'd already shown up in person they could send for a digital signature when they were ready for him.

"There are no freighters leaving for Hoenn until next week. So I could be home a week after. Or. . ." An alternative came to mind but he doubted Cait would take the bait.

"-I can take the S.S. Aqua to Olivine City and meet you in Johto." Not unless he really sold it to her; sneaking in a little getaway before they had to start actually taking action as confirmed expecting parents. "My cousin can pick you up in Lilycove tonight and bring you overnight." @utah was always tweaking that damn helicopter of hers, it was never not in top condition for more than a day.

Actually it was a solid, spur-of-the-moment idea. "I can show you the Lake of Rage where Ranton was born. You can show me the Bell and Bronze Towers." He actually wanted to hear her gush about the once-roosting places of Ho-oh and Lugia.

Aside from tickling her interests his tone promised her kisses and affections, new memories and his heat at her side.

He held up his pointer finger to recite his official reason and capacity for access into his home region. Security sure as hell grilled him into memorizing it by asking him every day. "Hoenn's Ambassador to Kanto was required to make an appearance and sign documentation upholding open trade for the two regions." Also though, there was some family business that needed by tended to. "My uncle makes the best pasta in the region. Its not a common dish in Kanto."

There seemed to be a nice chill that followed Lars around.

It was probably better to keep him near, warding off some of that tropic humid heat he loathed. The idea of a snow cone was tempting but something about it just being crudely flavored ice made him want to pass.

He skipped right over snow cones and starting thinking about sherbet and ice cream.

"Kinda." He was a ranger, they were men and women of action. Willful and confident; "Kinda" was no commitment coming from a ranger.

The hand shake was taken in earnest and shook firm. He liked Zac; easy to admire, there was a nobility to the guy. He did look a little different though.

"Ramsay, you look good." Casually he lifted a ball from his belt, having already chosen his pokémon. "You've lost weight." The wonders of his avatar status mixed in with some good olds fashioned dedication.

Who needed meats when you could spawn the biggest freshest vegetation at your feet. Did it work like that? Maybe he needed the seeds of a vegetable or fruit first.

Sénon called a Haunter to the field waiting for Ramsay to name his own champion. The Haunter huffed in haunted laughs, her tongue hanging out of her mouth. She loved a good scuffle almost as much as a good prank.

Cait's voiced willed him back from his ponderous eternity back into real time.

They were standing on the precipice of a moment that would echo throughout their history forever. Even now he could hear Cait telling their daughter about the first thing he said when he found out they were officially expecting.

Cait was putting on a brave 'face' and he didn't deny her strength, but he was also aware she needed to be reassured.

She needed to know she hadn't done anything wrong and she wasn't in this alone.

"I'm coming home."

Now that he was back in Hoenn there was something almost nostalgic about walking the Fiery Path.

Was he really allowed to be nostalgic about a tradition he only upheld for about 10 months?

It was quieter than he remembered, probably because he didn't have the magmutts with him anymore. The league called back for one and the other seemed to burn a little colder without its companion.

He was still trying to get it to bond with the other pokémon.

So for now, he walked the path alone his hand gazing over his occupied pokéballs.

Why he'd been left off the notification squad for a call to arms over a gym leader being kidnapped in her own city, was beyond him.

The standard league updates came through but if rocket was acting this brazen there was no way the Commissioner wasn't utilizing A.Q.U.A. and he didn't get any word from her regarding anything. He signed the papers but perhaps this wasn't the kind of problem to send a witness to. Maybe being left off the roster was to his benefit.

Especially since he was going to be operating a bit outside the league standard tonight.

The fighting and apprehending people was what unnerved him. Ranger's solved pokemon-problems, not people-problems. Despite the fact that Laurence Anderson was probably out here somewhere didn't make the redhead overlook that the Head Ranger wasn't supposed to be chasing down bad guys; either of them. They could, but it was someone else's job. Sénon didn't liken much to being a cop.

Crimsen however, was a vigilante.

Not to mention there were two kinds of bad guys he always made an exception for; poachers and Rockets.

Arriving in town via teleport he started off in the elevated Northeast, set to work his way down towards the bay; maybe Raziel Beckett would be active near his apartment.

The other ranger being one of the few people he could trust with both identities.
