two members of hoenn's elite four find themselves in meteor falls for similar reasons. where she's searching for answers, he's searching for more unown, understanding that the key to figuring out whatever the unown report is trying to tell them can't be done alone.

he has to contribute, and so, he will.

A strange man with an Unown had been the one to attack her. It made sense, logically, for her to chase the only thing she could remember.

But fear still grips her tight. Her fingers are cold and she can feel herself shaking.

'Come on,' he says, and it snaps her out of her darkening thoughts. She exhales quietly, hoping to mask the anxiety in her voice.

"Right."

She follows him a few more paces before reaching for his arm.

"Will you show me that machine you have? The one related to the Unown?"

"hm? oh. sure."

he pulls out the odd device, extending the unown report over to her, allowing her to peruse as she so wishes.

"there are quite a few entries in there already. no idea what any of it means, though."

he has some theories but none concrete enough to share.

in the background, his sceptile's ENERGY BALL is more than enough to take down the shellder. he tosses a pokeball at it, moving on.

Stormy glances to him briefly, but takes the machine in her hands and turns it this way and that, at first. Nothing on it makes much sense, and instead leaves her with a sense of dread and terror. Just looking at it reminds her of the shapes in the mist, of the hidden power and the Unown responsible.

She exhales sharply, looking away from it and struggling to catch her breath.

"And.. you trust these Unown that you're catching?"

The sense of an impending migraine arrives and is quickly snuffed out as one of Stormy's various Charizard take down the Elgyem with sharp claws and fiery breath. Stormy throws a pokeball to retrieve the fallen wild Pokemon. It wasn't an Unown, but it was a psychic type- and anything might help.

"the unowns? yeah. i don't trust the report, though."

the unown, the report, and those white-haired figures. too much to distrust, too little to trust.

"i'm guessing they're related to the ones who showed up at the soiree."

he sighs, peering off at an approaching fraxure.

its SLASH is parried by sceptile's own LEAF BLADE, perhaps DETECTING the attack even before it's made. sceptile is quicker, more experienced, and so the follow-up LEAF BLADES hack away at fraxure until it drops down to a knee.

"How?"

She comes to a dead halt, and there is anger behind her bright blue eyes. They are cold where they were once warm, but they burn all the same.

"How can you trust the Unowns? They're.. literally called 'Unowns', Matty."

Even in the face of her strife and anxiety, she chooses to use his nickname.

"You're an idiot."

She has always trusted Pokemon, but since being shot at, since losing Moltres, agitation and distrust run thick. Stormy shakes her head, continuing to scroll through the device.

Behind her, Wadjet follows at a distance. Her heavy feet land firmly and carefully up until something crunches and squeaks. Thankfully, the Charizard has barely put weight down and immediately retracts her foot, appearing sheepish. Just in front of her is a now stepped-on Omanyte.

"Shit."

Stormy pushes the device back into her brother's hands hastily before jogging to catch up with and rescue the dazed and injured Omanyte. After a little bit of TLC and gentle words, she pulls out a pokeball to capture the Pokemon.

"i understand your anger, sis, but unowns weren't the one who attacked you."

a sliver of guilt rises even if there's no real reason for it to. still, he sighs, shrugging it off.

"they're no different than any other pokemon."

he pockets the device, then turns to watch the brief battle between his sceptile and the wild golisopod. SAND ATTACK does what it can to hinder sceptile's advance, but its LEAF BLADE connects, finding purchase between the thick shell. immediately, its EMERGENCY EXIT kicks in, but it's stopped by a quick toss of a pokeball.

"I saw it, Matias. It was an Unown who shot me."

Her brows come together in an agitated manner- they twitch angrily as she struggles to maintain composure. It isn't Matias she's upset with, but herself and the mysterious assassins at the Soiree.

"You're wrong. They are different from any other Pokemon."

She watches him put the device away, and her fingers itch with the urge to see it again- but she doesn't ask. Instead, she takes a deep breath and looks away from him altogether, avoiding him and his capture of the Golisopod.

Another Pokemon rises to challenge Wadjet in some manner, but the old girl sneezes, effectively roasting the small gelatinous Pokemon with a geyser of orange flame. And some snot. The Inkay blinks rapidly and sways from side to side before wilting into the ground for Stormy to retrieve.

"You feelin' okay, Wadjet?"

"and who ordered the unown?"

pokemon are tools. weapons. they have a will of their own, sure, but their wills often bent according to whoever owns them.

but he doesn't argue any more than he already has, understanding that it's a sensitive issue. he's sure he'd be feeling differently had virizion been taken away from him.

he ignores whatever pokemon approach, and so does his sceptile.
