Haina Desert - Pokemon Sun & Moon

A VAST DESERT LANDSCAPE dotted with rocky structures and monoliths. Curiously, they almost seem humanmade, though there are no signs of people here. Shrubbery and turquoise crystals are encrusted throughout the bright and sweltering dryland. Occasionally, you may stumble upon rocky terrain that is difficult to traverse.[break][break]

Mysterious obelisks with missing seals are situated throughout the desert. No one knows why they exist, or who made them.

🗺️ NOTE: the INCARNATE FORME LANDORUS is in spirit form, suggesting that it is dead and that its corporal form is no longer.

having been here multiple times prior, it is up to cian to safely guide the party through these arid lands. he gave them a list of things to bring along which are mostly basic necessities along with a few items they might not have thought to bring, like a hat or shades or even a scarf.[break][break]

Seemed like CIAN MAHER knew a lot more about this place than either Hideo or Eva Morales did, so the boy gladly let the other Gym Leader lead the way - both within the Desert, as well as with the preparations before.

Hideo made sure to bring a hat for himself - as well as for Uxie, the little fashionable pixie floating by his side.

Without an Illusion to hide itself. No need for one when both Eva and Cian knew it was with Hideo.

"Can't say I see what you're talking about," Hideo said, a grin on his face, "but I can appreciate you already got the answer for this puzzle! Must've had a hard time finding that seal in all this sand."

Uxie filled him in on what was depicted on the obelisk - as well as the giant fruit Cian's Buzzwole was eyeing.

"...funny thing is the first challenge I had as a Minor Leaguer, the challenger used a Buzzwole. Didn't see that one coming."

It was hot. Too hot. Just the simple act of breathing left her mouth parched and her bones aching. It took quite the effort to trek across the desert world with CIAN MAHER at the lead. When they finally stopped before the tower, she popped open a bottle of water to take a few sips, passing it off to Cian and Hideo if they needed any.

Eva watched the blocks shift and reconfigure themselves to reveal a series of glyphs she hadn’t seen in the brief research she had done prior to diving into the desert with her team. Eva stepped closer to inspect the depictions of the Buzzwole and Pheromosa clashing over the dunes. Her gaze bounced between CIAN MAHER’s Buzzwole attracted by the giant desert fruit and the similarity to the photos. Reports of another ultra beast in this desert world were not uncommon, “Have you seen one of these yet?” she asked either of her companions, pointing towards the depiction of a PHEROMOSA.

The professor began to wonder, running her hands over the tower as if looking for a way inside. There was usually more than met the eye in these places.

"ooo thanks," he says in response to Eva Morales offering him a drink. after a not-so-qiuck sip, he caps it and passes it back with a smile.[break][break]

glancing over at the depiction of a pheromosa, he nods.[break][break]

"yes! so, in this realm, buzzwole and pheromosa are basically enemies. they've been fighting each other for who knows how long, each side wanting control over the realm."[break][break]

and as Eva Morales busies herself with trying to find a hidden way in, he studies another depiction, one that will take him some time to figure out. so he snaps a quick picture just in case.

Hideo gladly took a sippy from the drink Eva Morales offered. His own heat tolerance was immense, but no harm in a bit of hydration.

"Can't say I'm shocked to hear they're rivals," Hideo said, "Heard they both hit the same niche of being hard hitters. Competition's only natural between Pokemon like that…even if their competition sounds more intense than a friendly fight."

As strange as Ultra Beasts could be, they still had a lot of the same habits of regular Pokemon.

Hideo mindlessly wandered around, Uxie keeping him aware of the area around him - and encouraging him to approach something in the room. Once he was close enough to feel it, he noticed there was some kind of lid.

And it wasn't bolted down.

The temptation was too strong to resist - he pushed the lid over, hitting with a *thud* louder than he'd hoped for…and felt something strange, something he couldn't describe.

"?taht leef esle enoynA" he asked aloud - unaware he didn't sound anything like he thought.

How frustrating! Despite the intricacy of the shuffling blocks, there didn’t seem to be any sort of indication for an entrance. Some time out of the sun would probably do their brains so good . . . because it sounded like Hideo Kino’s was melting.

“?Yas ouy did tahw” Eva sounded perfectly fine in her own mind, but Hideo made no sense, much like her, “ni yaw a dnif t’nac I” she huffed, rejoining the group and placing her hands on her hips. She scanned the surroundings once more, focusing on the glyphs to see if there’s a clue in there somewhere.

Hideo looked over toward Eva Morales , the confusion clear on his face. "?tahW" he asked. "?taht ekil dnuos uoy od yhW"

CIAN MAHER didn't seem to be suffering the same effect, from the sound of it.

Uxie couldn't resist a giggle, floating away from Hideo to observe what Cian was looking at. It watched as Cian did the necessary motions, floating on the directions he moved, clapping along as he did.

That strange feeling Hideo had disappeared. "Weird," Hideo muttered, turning to Cian. "What're you clapping there for? You-"

He was interrupted by the sudden arrival, Hideo unable to get a word in before Uxie blasted the oncoming Landorus with Mystical Power, trying to push it away from Cian.

Eva really didn’t know what to say because she had no idea what Hideo Kino was saying. The Professor just stood there looking dumbfounded with her mouth hanging open as she stared blankly at the young Gym Leader and Uxie.

She was snapped out of her trance by Cian, who moved oddly at the instructions of a series of glyphs he had been studying. Suddenly, it was as is nothing happened, and Hideo sounded normal and - “ARCEUS! WHAT THE-” she sounded normal again whens he cried out in surprise the spirit of the Landorous rushed out of the stone towards Cian.

Uxie blasted it back with MYSTICAL POWER. Eva scrambled to command Adele forward. The Gardevoir immediately flared into her Mega Evolution brought on by Eva’s surprise. She stretched her hands forward, casting a PSYCHIC over the spirit to hold it in place so it gave the group a moment to collect themselves and assess the situation.

snapping out of the curse Hideo Kino condemned him to, cian stumbles back, tripping over his own foot to fall butt-first into the sand. he stares up at the LANDORUS, pointing a moment later.[break][break]

"that's it! that's landorus! hahaha—oh shit."[break][break]

the LANDORUS breaks free from Eva Morales's PSYCHIC only to conjure up a SANDSTORM from the very ground they stand on.[break][break]

a SANDSEAR STORM soon follows.[break][break]

cian, realizing as much, stands back up and holds his hands out to try and negotiate with it.[break][break]

Eva Morales 's sudden shout clued Hideo into whatever just appeared, wasn't a minor threat. And CIAN MAHER was the one that confirmed it: Landorus.

The Gardevoir tried to reason with the specter through her TELEPATHY while Cian attempted the same through words. It’s no use though, the legendary’s SANDSEAR STORM threaten to roast them like Lechonk in the oven. Uxie’s PROTECT could only do so much, so Eva took matters into her own hands.

Pale streaks of gold blossomed in her emerald eyes when she summoned her DELTA STREAM. Her fists clenched, taking control of the wind and bending it to her own will. The gusts turned on themselves, creating a vortex that left Eva, Hideo, and Cian at its eye. The searing sands raged around them, buffeting against the countering winds with no avail.
