Robin pumped a fist in the air at Gwen's agreement. "I like all the rides, don't worry! Well, maybe not the kid ones so much, but that's mostly because the parents give dirty looks when they see someone big on those ones." She was thrilled to see Gwen pick an extreme spin ride. Whirlipede Wonder was something she'd never imagine Gwen to pick, but the girl was full of surprises.

Robin was pleasantly dizzy as she got off. She turned to Gwen to gush about the ride, but Gwen was doing some gushing of her own. Robin gave her a few minutes to collect herself, securing a water bottle for Gwen when she finished. "Drink this," she insisted. "We don't have to do any big rides. We could just sit on the ferris wheel and overlook the festival, y'know? Your tummy can settle, and we can see if you see anyone with a prize you can't live without." Personally, Robin was dying for some kind of Munchlax merch, but the closest she'd gotten was the snorlax plushie yesterday.

Robin shot up like a rocket at Gwen's reveal. "You're a ranger now!? That's incredible!" She made a huge gesture with her hands, forgetting the sparkler that had been precariously resting in her pocket. It fell to the wet grass, but Robin just picked it up and wiped it on her sleeve as she spoke. "That's so awesome. You're gonna get to explore the region and help people and, hey, maybe you can even help some researchers. I know you like that computer-y science stuff." Being a ranger was a huge opportunity, even though it ate up a lot of time.

"It's gonna give you lots of opportunities to find a talonflame. Heck, we can even go look for one together. One of my ranger buddies recommended I get my hands on a fire type and a water type because it'll help me be prepared for more emergencies. We can fill out our types together." Gengar wasn't helpful on any emergency so far, but Munchlax had a good heart. Toxel was too new to her party for this kind of thing; she hadn't developed a rapport with him yet.

The fire birds above finished their show in a blaze of glory, departing from sight to return to their trainers. The fireworks would begin in just a minute. Robin inspected her sparkler, but it was still too damp to burn with the lighter she had.

Forget the festival map. Robin scanned the horizon around her, putting her ranger eyes to work as she tried to find the shortest line. Oh! Is that-?

"Gwenny!" Robin cleared the distance between the two of them in the blink of an eye. She invaded Gwen's personal space immediately, investigating the packet in her hand. "Hey, do you wanna ride some rides before you end up with more prizes than you can carry?" She could barely stand in place with the excitement she was buzzing with. "We can do bumper cars! And some of the fast rides! If you feel sick, we can settle down with some more games. This Magikarp one is okay, but the ring toss is way easier to win."

Robin stretched her arms out behind herself and laid her whole back against the hill in light of her victory in their race. The hills were only slightly damp, a safety precaution taken by rangers earlier to prevent any fires from stray ashes or sparks from the fireworks. She hadn't been a part of that due to her lack of water types as well as her last three weeks of back-to-back missions; her ranger buddies had insisted she get two days to enjoy the festival.

"Way too long," she echoed. "I've been doing so many ranger tasks. I don't wanna be a rookie forever." She rubbed at her visible ranger band. It was a rookie color and always on display as rangers were expected to do. "I've been collecting berries in Oldale and fighting primate pokemon having territorial pursuits and... man, I missed ya." She turned her head to her best friend with a tender expression. "I'm glad you were available this last week of the festival. I want to know how things are going for you!"

Her gaze shifted back to the sky as twelve Fletchinders took to the sky alongside four talonflames. All of them alternated between flame charge, aerial ace, and will-o-wisp, lighting up the sky with creative aerial maneuvers as a preliminary show to the fireworks.

Robin squealed as she saw a familiar face with glasses. "Gwenny! It's been so long!" She ran over to the girl and gave her a squeeze, letting a girlish impulse take over any kind of sense. Gwendolyn had never been touchy-feely, but Robin had always felt so at ease with the other girl that it was hard to remember such reasonable boundaries. "I got us sparklers!" She pulled two thing firework sticks from her pocket, brandishing them with a goofy smile.

Her eyes were wide and glittering as she looked at Gwendolyn expectantly. "C'mon, I've almost missed the whole festival by now, but we can make the most of the firework show!" She grabbed at her friend to lead her to a hilltop unless she met resistance. If Gwendolyn came along, the two of them would have a spot to overlook the festival, where all the rides were lit up to stand out against the warm dusk surrounding them. "There are supposed to be a bunch of Fletchinder lighting up the sky before firework show starts."

Robin laughed helplessly as she swung back and forth. The ride wasn't extreme, as there were quite a few children scattered across the old pirate ship looking ride. They didn't even have seatbelts. Still, the thrill of it being her first ride of the night had laughter spilling out from her. She giggled until it came to a stop, apologizing to the two behind her that were clearly on a date. "Just nerves or adrenaline or something," she explained as she hurried out of the finished ride.

What was the best strategy for picking the best ride? She wanted to maximize the thrills and minimize the sickness. She stared at a map of the festival grounds as she pondered.

I would love to see Ever and Robin on a mission! It could be one of her first few, so she might overcompensate for her newness with being 'too much' -- though I'm sure she'll relax as the mission goes on and she demonstrates some competence. Is there any kind of ranger mission that stands out for you?

I like the similarities between Axel and Robin in terms of pokemon; despite being a ghost enthusiast, the first pokemon to wander into her life was Munchlax, so she has a soft spot for normal types and ghost types alike. Having a professor dad is so cool. If you want a post soon, they could meet at the festival first, and do missions later on if you're still interested?

Robin squeezed her plushie in excitement. "Awesome! Let's check it out. I saw some kid with a giant togepi pinata walking by a while ago, and I haven't seen that prize anywhere. Maybe the pop-up has it." As they walk, she pulled out her phone and went to Pokegram. She selected the selfie she'd taken with the snorlax plushie the instant she'd won it and captioned it: NO SNORING AROUND HERE. #Funtasia

"You think- whoa." Up ahead, at the booth, was an ornery customer shouting at the woman operating the souvenir booth. She couldn't make out what he was saying, but she was certain it was unjustified. No one needed to make a scene like that in public. "Every day, it becomes clearer that I need a calming pokemon in my line of work." Maybe a Hatterne. Or an Audino. Hm.

The sound of fighting in the near distance fills her mind as she treks to where she'd seen the Noivern land. It doesn't take long to see a trainer and her Hatterne. That pokemon seems like a good choice given its reputation for calming. It's nice to have an opportunity to meet another ranger, but she admittedly feels nervous. Her pokemon are not particularly well-equipped for this kind of mission. Still, the ranger life is hers because of her bravery, so despite the misgivings, she marches right up to the other ranger and offers her best smile.

"Robin Coello, at your service!" She salutes, then things better of it and holds her hand out to shake instead. Beside her is Munchlax, who walked beside her all the way only to enjoy his chesto berry. "So. What's the best move here?" She feels best equipped to try and scare the primate pokemon with her gengar, but fighting types didn't tend to be ones that frightened easily. It likely wouldn't make them scatter. No, she'll stick with her trusty Munchlax, but no plan has come to her quite yet.

Robin's eyes widen at his response; looking him over, she noticed that he was, indeed, prizeless. Ouch. She did her best to hide the flinch, though he softened a bit as he collects a balloon pokemon. It's a great idea, and she didn't want to leave on bad terms even with a stranger, so she followed right behind him. "I got lucky at ring toss. I really wish they had Munchlax, though. I wanted to match my pokemon."

She handed the vendor her own money, though the balloon he selected was none other than an Abra. Her face fell instantly. She kept pace with him, "accidentally" letting go of the Abra balloon without a second glance. "But you can't win everything. Where else are you going to try your luck? Maybe you just need someone to cheer you on!" She offered her best smile. Her job was to help people, after all. Even here, she had her ranger arm band on display, though it was clearly a rookie color. "I missed all of the festivities until today, so I'm trying to get to all the best parts."

"I'm sorry," Robin said as she weighed her choices between two projectiles. One of them felt luckier than the other. She lined up her shot as she looked at the new fella on the dunk tank. "I just really can't resist a good opportunity for fun." She put all her force into her shot, putting more effort into the force behind the throw rather than the accuracy of it.
