Fernando takes the opportunity to watch his commercial play online while switching tabs to view their stock prices. This whole marketing scheme hinged entirely on his performance and how excellent of a team he could amass toward the mid-point of the competition. Thankfully, he was able to get some of the best and their showing proved dominant.

His money is already made. Keeping their legacy of owning the Leader Board would only be a bonus at this point. The fact that ALEXANDER STONE never showed up either proved vital. Devon Corp is the only organization that could compete against him with such a sudden market shift. Unfortunately, Alexander is a good man, naive to a fault in his conquest to do good by the Hoenn people, and therefore stuck with his League responsibilities.

This is what he had meant when he mentioned 'vacation' to Isra Nightingale and Ophelia Reyes. Anyone who knows Fernando knows that even on break he's working. This is just a different type of work.

"Two more runs and we're done for today. The sooner we finish, the sooner the competition ends, the sooner you get paid and your bonuses."

He claps loudly to rouse their attention. Hopefully, the financial incentive is enough to push them to the last leg of the race. They've been here all day and all he asks is for that last bout of energy.

Despite it's MOODINESS, his Smeargle still comes up to bat. Their method is tried and true, starting with a BEATEN UP Mudsdale.

Silph has been dominating the leaderboards and getting in with his crew has seen Gavin climb higher in turn. He'd done a few casual runs with other teams in the meantime but he'd dedicated the majority of his time and efforts to this.[break][break]

Mudsdale snorts and scuffs the ground as Silph claps to rouse them, and Gavin grips tighter. The horse has enviable, endless STAMINA. For the third time that day, they take off at a gallop.[break][break]

there's something unsettling with how fernando words it. he wasn't quite sure how it ended up like this since kyle's likely to invite fernando anyways for competitive events like this. earning money from it makes it weird, but who was he to judge if it's free stuff.

this time, kyle keeps his mouth shut in case fernando backs out from his claim.

the smeargle psychs up with the mudsdale once more. stamina boosts are inherited from one pokemon to another before the smeargle starts to go through the course.

Salem seems to weakly complain at the man's words, obviously beginning to wear down and it started to feel more job like than it being fun like it originally was. "Got it," Razz just confirmed before he ruffled his pokemon's fur as he got in position for them. "I thought you had all the energy in the world? Are you saying you're not as good as the others?" he teased the blue cat who just pouted before he jumped off his trainer's shoulder and pumped his chest and used PSYCH UP showing just how much he still had. Which was good because Razz was definitely wearing down himself but he knew how to lite a fire under Salem again before they took off once more.

For that, he's thankful for the man's presence. The rest of them are too focused at the goal and finishing to bring up that kind of culture to the team.

His Smeargle sets off for the course, leaping over the sweeping machina.

He's over-cautious at the start, given what had happened last time. It leaves him close enough to the others to overhear the ranger teasing his Pokemon with the sort of light tone that's long since been bruised and battered out of Gavin.[break][break]

As soon as they're past the first hurdle, he gives Mudsdale a smack on its flank to urge it forward. He'd have used the reins if he had any idea what the different ways to make the damn thing stop-and-go were, but this worked fine.[break][break]

kyle wants to know if there even is a point to this seemingly endless cycle of pokeathlon courses. they keep doing the same thing over and over again just to get a spot at the leaderboards. he misses the first few days where everyone just did this for fun. kyle cannot help but submit to the side of his that wanted the prizes that await those that placed high.

Despite his dying lungs he was happy to see his pokemon was still determined thanks to the fire from before. All he could really do was hope that would last them for the round as he whistled for the blue cat to used Reflect again to block the first obstacle from hitting them. This time around Razz calling the shots completely for Salem to react to rather than allowing Salem to do it on his own. This way to but less strain on him mentally, as all he had to do was react.

[attr="class","spiral"]Nothing notable happens during this leg of the race. They're too far in the zone. It's not perfect but they're rhythm makes it hard for them to slip up. It's almost like muscle memory. Running this so many times makes it easy for the Smeargle to gauge just how much time they have to cross while evading the swinging pendulums.

The pendulums are one of the hardest parts of the course for Mudsdale — its instinct, Gavin knew, was to charge straight through the center without stopping. It was a racehorse. It wanted to go fast. Problem was, the pendulums were faster. He tugs on the reins to discourage Mudsdale from simply following its gut and instead takes the pendulums with care, weaving between them like its a slalom.[break][break]

kyle wants to tell himself that this should be done soon. the longest part of the race was usually the first stretch and they're well beyond that from what kyle can tell. it's just a psychological thing, but kyle can't help but take it for more than it's worth.

he gets hyped up. his smeargle joins in his trainer's enthusiasm as they both continue the course.

Salem is yelling in excitement a bit having done well with the pendulums. The cat may be wearing down but he was as excited as ever to try to get done and be victorious. Razz doesn't discourage it as even though they were being paid for this he did try to remind himself the reason he started all this was for his pokemon's fun first. "Salem up," he called to him as the Meowstic did as told and jumped up to his shoulder like before as once more the cat followed their previous pattern of using PSYCHIC to stop any incoming projectiles from hitting them. This time making sure to only block what was coming at them in hopes of not wasting too much energy.

[attr="class","spiral"]Everything has been smooth. Too smooth. Complacency leads to bad habits and Fernando ends up being their weakest link. Among the dozen or so obstacles strewn out to catch them off guard, it's a random foam projectile that ends up pegging him in the chest. At first glance, that's nothing, but it causes him to flinch just in time for a second one to his him on his side. Together, they throw off his balance, and he slips on the crumples plastic.

With a great scream of defiance, he tries to flex his planted foot into pushing off with enough momentum to not slip off the platform. For a moment it works, but gravity proves too much, until a familiar tail pulls him back onto the course.

They emerge from pendulum hell unscathed. They're a bit slower than if they'd chosen to charge through full-tilt, but Gavin thinks its worth it to avoid the risk of being knocked entirely off course. This close to the end, a barrage of projectiles are sent toward the pair. All Gavin can do is cling to Mudsdale's reins and hope that he doesn't get knocked off before the finish.[break][break]

kyle wonders if there's anything more after this run. he can see the end of the course, but he's not quite sure if everything ends with this win. fernando's still up for it. gavin's pretty much ready for more wins. even razz doesn't seem bogged down by how things went.

a sigh escapes kyle as he continues the track. it's going to be all worth it in the end, he supposed.
