just as what they have hypothesized, megalopolan camps are already planted all over the region, raining toxic into the hoennian wilderness and controlling the corrupted fauna and flora of the localities. incidences of pokémon aggression blast the radios and televisions and dread looms even more in the thickness of poison-stained smog.[break][break]

as soon as she descends from the noctowl, her heart also sinks with anxiety. upon the league’s orders, they have landed on an enemy warcamp to spy. she feels like treading between her own bravery and stupidity—all the courage it took for her to push such an unreasonable idea to negotiate have met fear when she’s standing a few feet behind the enemies’ line. but this fear does not overpower her willingness to push through. not when she is already here.[break][break]

As the autumn leaves start to descend from their perch, so do the region's Pokemon. The further the Ultra Invaders progress the more wide spread their blight. This is no longer a war that can be won on defense. That's why he takes the front lines alongside the newest Tapu avatar.

for selena, fernando has his own brand of perturbation. she thinks the councilor is set in his ways—a stark contradiction from how journalists like her see what is fair and right. the pinkette titters at his validation. or insult. the intention doesn’t really matter anymore.[break][break]

“littleroot teaches us a lot of things.” as her voltaic aura glimmers and scatters from her body throughout the field, her sense of vision expands while delving deeper into her thoughts. “if we can find out how they tame these ultra beasts, i think we can control these monsters ourselves.”[break][break]

selena’s newfound powers allow her to give herself a perception of place which is now more then ever useful for spying these kinds of places. she peeps behind to see whether the man is following her way and her words. “the blacephalon from the contest seemed like it wasn’t the same as the one in slateport. it’s either: someone has found a way to tame these beasts or someone is harboring them for personal gains. regardless, i’m thinking there might be a way for us to finally hold their reins.”

Considering how their power contrasts with the like of Stormy and Lars he attribute it to the fundamental basis of their Legendaries and leaves it at that. Unaware of the actual extent of her powers, Fernando holds his position. "—but they're only theories."

When she turns back to make eye contact, Fernando crouches, squatting in place as his hands flirt over precarious Pokeballs. "Blacephalon was captured," he interjects, not quite challenging her but clarifying a discrepancy with their first statement. "The one in Littleroot seemed weaker than the one in Slateport but that could be so that its trainer wasn't caught in the explosion."

The recent reports from various Poison Patrols insinuate that the Ultra Invaders use a different mean. Again, it's only theory but Fernando points that out as well. Reduced to a mere whisper, he sits on his own patience until Selena takes the lead.

the kalosian feeds on the councilor’s words, nodding with great consideration of his clarifications. there is surprise when selena hears about the blacephalon being caught. it’s something she doesn’t know or maybe not allowed to know as a mere gym leader—but perhaps being an avatar puts her in a valuable position that grants her such exclusive information. but there’s something that doesn’t fit the narrative.[break][break]

“so... we don’t know who has the blacephalon?” fernando’s revelation poses a lot more questions than answers. her real concern, however, is if these theories will ever be tested by the time the war reaches its climax.[break][break]

her electric surge radiates brighter as they approach the heart of megalopolan camp. her careful strides stop at the sense of danger. “looks like this place is also sprawling with those metal cubes. a lot of metal cubes.”[break][break]

Whatever power she has, it seems to be one best suited for recon. Fernando has no insight on what they’re facing nor the intricacies of the metal monsters. “We should avoid contact at any cost.” He pauses. “We have no idea what they can do and how much they can report.”

Fernando eyes glaze over as purple overtakes them. He’s only tried this once but it proved potent enough. As sure as weather around them, a mild fog start to set in. It takes a conscious effort to make sure none wafts their way, coasting up the island as he sets up their exit plan.

“it feels like they’re the same ones in Balder Schwartz’s footage,” she clarifies under her breath just before her heightened senses slowly dissipate.[break][break]

a misty surge envelops the sprawling electric terrain from selena’s tapu powers. she doesn’t fail to notice the purple glint in her companion’s eyes, a shade so vibrant, washing away everything about fernando that is mundane.[break][break]

brow raises with anticipation and lips gape in confusion. even when it is her second time seeing him use his powers, it is only now she understands what it means to wield them. and that still leaves a lot of questions, especially without knowing every move’s intention.[break][break]

“now, what?” blue eyes dart from one unsuspecting metal cube to another, waiting for fini’s magic to transpire.[break][break]

The longer he concentrates the more the fog starts to roll in. Along the coast of the island, it laps up the coast, transparent, lacking the same definitive color as his MISTY TERRAIN. The other aspect of Tapu Fini’s domain is control of the after life. The haunting atmosphere is nothing more than cloudy air but it’ll afflict anyone who inhales it with a terrible bout of self destructive rage.

Increasingly loud shouting starts to stem from the camp and several Megalopolan’s can be seen shoving each other. They break out into a squabble until they start to punch, bite, and tear at each other. Neither of them are aiming to maim their ally but the discourse is enough to satisfy Fernando.

“That should buy us a distraction.”

where pink mist meets selena's skin, it cackles with electricity. the yellow aura of her own voltaic surge continues to envelop her body, ensuring a layer of protection from the destructive power of fernando's misty terrain. the mystic veil imbued with fairy powers is barely visible but it swallows the island whole that its true power starts seeping in the moment the megalopolans begin their series of uncontrollable rage.[break][break]

so this is tapu fini's powers.[break][break]

“perfect distraction, indeed.” fingers call on the idle noctowl and the bird approaches, preparing for a take off.[break][break]

her hands crawl deep into molech's feathers and halts for a moment to look at fernando. “i might need some avatar training. maybe you can help me in the future,” she stops, contemplating whether to continue—which she does. “while picking up where we left with this blacephalon incident, i hope.”[break][break]

Fernando makes no comment at her observation. 'Satisfying' is the last word to come to mind but he leaves his judgement silent in the face of enemy territory. Instead, he focuses on Selena's own aura, admiring the way it conflicts against his own, and making a mental note to test this with illeana reyes.

Does that mean they can hold their own against each other?

That's a thought for another time in a more peaceful place. Their recon is over and it's time to report back. In the face of Selena's Noctowl, he thumbs over one of his own Pokeballs, fiddling with his own mount.

"We're pressed for time but once things settle down, why not?"

She mentioned Littleroot and it takes every fiber of his being not to frown.

"And that too."
