During the boat ride to Hoenn, Xander had compiled a list of notable locations to visit once he arrived. At the top of that list was Fallarbor's, Meteor Falls. The intricate system of caves and waterfalls had supposedly been made by meteorites several thousand or so years ago. Considering the sheer scope of the landmark, it wasn't that hard for him to believe.[break][break]

That said, he still hadn't ventured past what could be considered the cave's entrance. He doubted he'd make it very far inside either. None of his Pokemon were equipped to handle the cave's waterfalls. Then there was the wild Pokemon to consider. He could only imagine how strong they were further inside.[break][break]

Xander sighed and moved to the edge of the bridge that connected two sections of the cavern together. Lowering himself into a sitting position, Xander let his legs dangle over the bridge's right side. He had a good view of one of the waterfalls from here. It was the perfect place to start sketching. Removing his backpack and setting it next to him, Xander unzipped it and fumbled around inside for his sketchbook.[break][break]

The notebook was worn; its cover was plain-looking and badly faded, appearing grey instead of the black it had once been. Xander thumbed through it as he searched for an empty page. "Man, it's about time for me to buy another sketchbook." he muttered. After a moment or two more of looking, Xander managed to find a blank page near the middle of the sketchbook. He just had one more thing to do before he could start sketching.[break][break]

Xander reached back into his backpack and pulled out two Pokeballs. One was your standard red & white Pokeball, while the other was a Dusk Ball. He clicked the center of both balls and hurled them up into the air, releasing the Pokemon housed inside.[break][break]

The pair of Pokemon landed on the bridge next to Xander, well, Froakie did at least. Dreepy floated playfully in the air in front of his trainer. "I figured I'd let the two of you stretch your legs while I doodled a bit." the ghost-type nudged against Xander's chest as he spoke. "It's a figure of speech. I know you don't have legs Gloomtail." Xander chuckled dryly and pushed Dreepy away.[break][break]

"Now go play and don't wander off too far." he mused, starting to sketch as he listened to the pair of Pokemon play off in the distance.[break][break]

Dragging Your Feet
Meteor Falls | Dual Wild

THEME

Rocks clattered as Zac climbed up the cavern ledge. It was a fantastic day for exploring Meteor Falls, and he was returning from a little delve into one of the new areas opened up by the still-recent fighting.

While the threat of the Megalopolans had faded from Meteor Falls itself, the damage it had done to the local ecology was something Zac wanted to document firsthand.

Together with Zappa his Heliolisk and VC his Vibrava, Zac had moved quickly through the familiar tunnels. He was a Lavaridge native after all, and he and Zappa had grown up spending every other weekend spelunking in the caves.

The trio reached the top of the ledge, and VC levelled out a section for them to sit on. They were almost back at the entrance, and Zac looked out over one of the falls' murky pools.
With all the limestone dissolved in the water it was completely opaque. A beautiful, creamy blue that flowed quickly downstream, washing untold secrets down to the ocean.

Zac liked being a little bit above the water.

He noticed someone sitting on one of the bridges spanning the pools. A red haired man, like himself, who was sketching something. The falls, maybe? Zac smiled. Couldn't've picked a more beautiful place. He thought, proudly.

Zac itched to meet this stranger. To give him a warm handshake and talk about his love for this area and the exciting pokemon that could be found here.

But he didn't want to disturb the stranger's art. It would be a damn shame if Zac threw off his muse.

Xander had admittedly stopped paying much attention to what his Pokemon were doing. Once he set pencil to paper, he often lost himself in his artwork. He'd get so focused that he'd block out most of what was going on around him. It wasn't usually a problem, mostly just resulting in one-sided conversations. But he'd also never had Pokemon of his own to worry about before now.[break][break]

Dreepy was the first to run into trouble. The dragonling had been stubbornly trying to get Zephos to play with him, but the frog refused to. Froakie was more interested in relaxing in the water underneath the bridge than playing any games. Disappointed with his fellow mons disinterest, Gloomtail wandered off in search of something to entertain himself with.[break][break]

Forgoing that he'd been ordered to stay close, Dreepy ventured further than he should have. The glint of something shiny swaying in the cliffs above pulled at his attention. Gloomtail didn't even bother to look back before floating upward to investigate. Dreepy thought he'd find a gem or shiny rock waiting for him. What he found instead was trouble.[break][break]

Immediately after arriving, Hypno stepped out from behind the waterfall's shadow. It wore a devious grin, its golden pendulum continuing to sway as it moved closer. Gloomtail shrieked and backed away from the psychic-type slowly. As he did, Hypno reached for him with one of its meaty hands. Realizing the danger he was in, Gloomtail bolted as quickly as he could in the opposite direction. Hypno gave chase and was hot on Gloomtail's tail when the dragonling bumped into Zac.[break][break]

Dreepy shrieked and waved his arms in the air frantically at the stranger. Dashing behind the man, the reason for Dreepy's panic would quickly become clear to him. Hypno didn't care who was in its way. For whatever reason, it wanted Dreepy, and it wouldn't stop until it got him.[break][break]

Down below, Froakie had managed to stumble into trouble of his own. Zephos had been floating peacefully in the water with his eyes closed when the water started shaking violently. Opening his eyes to investigate, revealed a Vibrava to be the source of the tremors. Hovering underneath the bridge, she was using her Earth Power to disturb Zephos's relaxation.[break][break]

Froakie narrowed his eyes at the dragonfly and fired off a Water Pulse at it from the water. Vibrava darted out of the way, causing the attack to hit the underside of the bridge. The bridge shook from the impact, almost Xander down into the water. [break][break]

"What the hell are you two doing?" Xander shouted, finally pulling himself away from his sketchbook. Frustrated and not wanting to lose all his artwork. Xander placed the book back inside his backpack. He then peered down at the water, ready to give his Pokemon a lecture. Much to his surprise, however, rather than glancing down to see the pair roughhousing. He saw Froakie firing off more Water Pulses at the now chuckling Vibrava.[break][break]

"You've gotta be fucking kidding me! I look away for ten minutes, and you start bothering the wildlife." Xander groaned and placed a hand over his face. Zephos and Gloomtail were supposed to the well-behaved ones. It's why he'd chosen to let them out. If Xander had wanted trouble, he'd have gone with Repulsa and Komali.[break][break]

"Wait," he pulled his hand from his face, "Where is Gloomtail?" he looked around for the dragon but failed to spot him.[break][break]

"Great, now I've got two problems to deal with."

Meteor Falls | Dual Wild

THEME

Zac saw it all happen. He watched as the little Dreepy floated up the cliff in search of something or other, and ran into the Hypno.
The ghostly pokemon shot along the ridge, straight towards him, and he took a step to the side, letting the terrified creature past. Zac stepped back into the path of the advancing Hypno.
"I don't think so mate," Zac said, blocking the creature.     Hypno swung its pendulum at him menacingly, but Zac looked away, rending it powerless unless the yellow creature wanted to get physical.

Zappa chirped threateningly, flashing its frill at the Hypno and shooting it with blasts of light. The Hypno covered its eyes and staggered back, but lost its footing on the ridge and tumbled down the hill into the water.
    Zac looked over the edge, concerned. "Uh...you fine buddy?"
The Hypno emerged, bedraggled and gasping for breath, and Zac let out a sigh of relief. He didn't want to see any pokemon seriously hurt. "The ridge is lower over there," Zac said, pointing across the water. "You can climb out."
The Hypno glared at him, just as something pulled the yellow pokemon under the murky waters with a splash.

"Oh. Well, that's not great," Zac said, pulling a pokeball out of his bag. He watched the water bubble and surge, as Hypno fought something, out of sight. The psychic pokemon emerged again, gasping, and Zac tossed the pokeball.
    It struck true, and a few moments later the filled ball was still, floating on the surface of the water. They were made to be buoyant, and it bobbed slowly towards the bridge where Xander was dealing with his Froakie.

"Hey mate!" Zac yelled down. "Can ya' grab that ball for me?"

NOTES: Zac catches Hypno, but the ball is getting away!

Knowing he couldn't handle both problems at once, Xander chose to focus on the one in front of him. His eyes flickered left and right, attempting to trace Vibrava's movements. She was fast, but he could barely make her out as she zig-zagged in the sky. [break][break]

"If I can just get the timing down..."[break][break]

He waited. Two seconds, three seconds, four seconds...[break][break]

"Zephos! Water Pulse, now!" Froakie sprang into action, tossing a sphere of swirling water at Vibrava. The attack collided with its target, sending it falling down from the sky.[break][break]

Xander darted to his backpack for a Pokeball. He grabbed the first empty one he could find and flung it at the Pokemon before she could recover. The ball opened wide as it connected with Vibrava, transforming her into red light and dragging her inside itself. It shook once, twice, three times and then clicked.[break][break]

Vibrava had been caught and dealt with. Xander flung his backpack over his shoulder and went to retrieve the Pokeball. It had landed on the water's shore below. She'd be a good addition to the team. Maybe she could even show Gloomtail a thing or two.[break][break]

"Speaking of," Xander could start looking for Dreepy now. Ideally, he wouldn't have gone further than the first chamber. "That's still a lot of places to check." even if he used all of his Pokemon. It still likely take an hour or more before he found Dreepy. [break][break]

A glint of something red falling form the waterfall caught Xander's attention. It was small, barely noticeable if not for its shine. It hit the water with a splash and sunk down into its depths only to bounce back to the surface. Seconds after the item resurfaced, Xander heard a masculine voice calling out to him.[break][break]

He looked up, towards the sound of the voice and saw Zac. "Yeah, I can grab it!" reaching his arm out, Xander scoped up the Pokeball as it past him. "Have you seen a Dreepy a up there!?" he shouted, holding the ball up high.

THEME

"Yeah I've got the little guy up here! He's yours? What a beaut'," Zac said, as he inspected the little Dreepy. With its big eyes and wide mouth it was the picture of cuteness. "Lets get you back down to your trainer, 'ay?"
    Vibrava dug foothold in the cliff face, and the group descended. As they did, Zac kept an eye on the Pokeball, which was floating closer to the bridge, and the waiting hands of his new friend.
The orb bobbed lightly in the flow, until it suddenly disappeared, pulled underwater. Zac frowned. "Well that's...not ideal." There was a pair of wet, slapping sounds and the Pokeball went flying into the air, ricocheting off the cave wall. Zac heard a splash as it landed in the river somewhere upstream
  "Hey!" Zac shouted at whatever had knocked away his ball. "I'll show you, you little devil." He tossed an empty Pokeball into the pond, and watched as it drifted downstream.
    As it approached the bridge, it too was sucked under, only instead of being tossed into the air, there was a muted flash of red from underwater and the Pokeball bobbed to the surface.
"Ha! Gotcha!"

NOTES: Zac catches Buizel through pure trickery.
