There is a large bruise on the left side of his face as Razz steps into the Fighting Gym. It was a reminder of how his previous mission went and just how rusty he was with being able to fight. Honestly when he signed up for this hole ranger thing he didn't think he'd be every fighting the same way he used to. Yet missions brought him to people like Poachers and now Rocket where attacking trainers wasn't a problem for them half the time. [break][break]

Its what brought him here. While he could always go back to training with his fighting type pokemon like he used to do to help keep himself in shape, there is a glaring difference between then and now. He was down an eye, and it has often caused him problems. He feels it would also be an issue if he were to try getting back in shape. [break][break]

It was why he was hoping to see the Gym Leader, maybe they could give him some advice for that. He scans the room, ignoing the people in their work outs as he looks for what he recalls from the magazines. His eyes finally fall on the man with blue hair as Razz goes up, "You are Noah Faber right?"

hearing his name called dissolves the glue underneath noah's forearm resting on the receptionist's counter. the gym leader pulls away, skin red from being pushed into the surface.

"yo! that's me." he says. a brisk jog is punctuated by the squeaking of sneakers. "want a gym membership? a gym battle?" noah thrusts his hands into his shorts, alternating the legs he leans on.

the other looks familiar, but noah does not pry. he runs in different realms, after all.

Razz shakes his head simply, "Ahh no, umm I'm don't really do Gym Battles," he is trying to be polite and not just be like hey can you do this. As he's been told a few times now that that's rude. Though he doesn't really know how else to ask him. Why was socializing so hard? "Umm the name is Razz Kingsman... nice meeting you?" [break][break]

Razz can't help but spare the Meowstic on his shoulder a look as if asking if what he was doing was okay. Salem just gives his trainer a pat in a 'you're trying' kind of way. "Uhhh does the membership offer training in the trainer aspect of things?"

several machop turn a corner nearby, followed by their gym trainers. they're a clumsy herd of grey. lacking discipline yet, they find themselves unable to truly match the rhythms of training— but such things take time.

"oh! you mean like battling, man?"

noah smiles at the other's meowstic. his gaze settles briefly, like fallen leaves against a pond's surface. he returns his gaze to razz with a small hum.

"you sure i can help you out in that way? i'm a fighting-type specialist. not a psychic kinda guy."

Razz can’t help but follow the other’s gaze to his Meowstic and just shakes his head, “N-no no, he’s just a service pokemon for my blindness,” he corrects as he points to the side of his face he keeps covered. Though Salem does give him a small hiss as if insulted by only being called a service pokemon, though behind it is clearly a playfulness. [break][break]

”Ahh… but no, not for battling, well I mean… not pokemon battles but battles with people… wait….” he pauses and Salem ends up trying to tell him something encouraging, giving a little psychic push. ”Sorry… let me start over.. ummm… uhhh its more for fighting with face to face,” he points to the bruise on his cheek he got from his fight undercover. “I’m a Ranger and there have been a few times where my pokemon are busy holding off the other’s pokemon while I have to take care of them myself, and well with me being half blind its been a struggle to say the least, so I thought coming to a fighter would help?” [break][break]

noah hears an eggshell crack under his shoe. he wonders whether he has caused offence— but the other seems too meek. too soft to express it.

"oh that's a pretty good bruise, bro." noah leans in, examining the colour. "on the face, sheesh."

the more razz explains—despite the roundabout way of his request—the more noah finds the orbit of his motivations wrapped in with his. hooked in an innate sense. more fist than claw.

"you've come to the right place." noah exclaims. "the faber school of fighting is something i've been developing for a long time, man! i'll toughen you up. get those reflexes real quick. when do you wanna start?"

Razz can’t help but lean back as the other leans in. Habit more than anything else. Though it seems good that the other might be able to help him out with the depth perception problem. “Ummm uhhh guess whenever you’re available? noah's palm falls heavy on the other's shoulder. fingers pull back on fabric as if to lock razz in.

"nothing but you and your body." noah declares. "we can start now!"

the gym leader's machamp stomps toward them. all four of its arms are in preemptive positions; however, it is unclear whether the pokemon is about to punch, scoop, or direct.

"you in?"

Razz can’t help but tense up as the other’s hands fall on his shoulders. Though he makes sure to do nothing, even as the Machamp comes up behind him. Razz is unsure if they’re there to try and be intimidating or supportive. He’s fine, he can do this.

"alright, buddy! let's go!"

a muscular mass of grey arms scoops razz up against a hardened chest (should the ranger allow it). his machamp grins, beak wide and bright yellow. it grunts happily: a bugle for training.

noah leads razz—and his trailing meowstic should it be following them on foot—toward the deeper end of the building. they pass doors and move into a hallway before finding a training room fitted with mats.

"first lesson's going to be free, man." noah says as everyone enters the space. "so, you want self-defense right? gimme a hypothetical scenario to work with man. let's make this real and applicable."

The ranger panics slightly as he was suddenly picked up with no warning. If Salem weren't there with him to help keep him calm it might have fought against the hold. Though Salem just rides along with his trainer, moving from his trainer to the Machamp's shoulder crying out how he was on top of the world with his new height.[break][break]

He allows the pokemon to carry him until they're brought in. The half blind make taking in the sight before the Gym Leader ask for an example. "Well I got this while under cover at an illegal fighting ring," he points to the bruise again, "The other had his pokemon fighting mine before going after me on his own," okay that was a lie but it was close enough to the truth.

"sheesh, buddy. work for the league?"

noah's machamp lets the other down— but keeps salem comfortably perched on its shoulder should the cat desire to remain. the dark blues of the mat are cool to the touch. plush underneath shoes, but firm enough for landings to stick with drama.

"but that's what i'd do too. the going after the other guy myself part. not the getting bruised."

noah stretches, beckoning for razz to come forth.

"loosen your limbs. you can follow what i'm doing, man." a smile flashes on noah's face as he limbers up, gaze focused on the ranger. "then come at me. try something. hit me."

"Yeah," a pause, "Sort of... I'm a Ranger, so was investigating the pokemon cruelty and such," he attempts to explain deeper, though at the same time feels he might have made it more confusing with the 'sort of' aspect. [break][break]

As he goes on Razz steps on the mat, the plush feeling a tad weird to stand on, but he was adaptable thanks to his job. "Right.. I'll try," he mumbles as he test the floor underneath them at first. Before taking a stance, though with it being very right heavy it left his blind spot large. [break][break]

Razz tries to change sides but its clear he is not strong on his left side as the stance feels awkward. Making him go back once more before he goes toward to try and punch at the GYM leader with his right hand.

from the onset, it is clear, conspicuously so, of razz's martial shortcomings. noah can trace the lack of committment in the other's movements. the tumbleweed of thoughts that coil around each limb like corroded wire.

noah catches the fist, his warm workout glove hugging its unpracticed shape.

"okay, okay, gonna be honest, man," noah smiles, a sympathetic laugh brewing underneath his lips, "we got a lot of ground to cover. unless..."

noah crosses his arms.

"i have two options for you. one: how do you feel about grappling?"
