"Howzit goin everyone? My name's Zac Ramsay!" Zac said, looking at the other corners of the Royal Battle. He was in the green corner, massaging the stony shoulders of Odium the Tyranitar.

Zac recognized Bo, his fellow watermelon-gorger, but not the other two combatants. One of them was a severe-looking woman, and the other was dressed like an accountant.

The accountant introduced himself, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I'm Rose Walters. I work for the Slateport city council in the town planning department," the man said proudly. Damn. So close, thought Zac. I was sure he was an accountant. "I'm a chartered accountant." Nailed it.

The accountant sent out a Meowth. The coin on its head was abnormally shiny, and its fur looked like it had been recently brushed.

Bo was happy to be in the ring with Zac again—even if it was shared with others. For one, this was a chance to redeem himself to the gym leader in battle. And, two, Zac was a good guy.

“Hey Zac!” he waved from the yellow corner, where Gigalith pounded the sand with huge feet.

The other two were unfamiliar, so he introduced himself as well.

“Boruta Maher. Nice to meet you guys!”

The only one in the group she recognizes is Zac Ramsay, and that’s only because his face was plastered all over all kinds of things at this tournament. It’s to not recognize the avatar. The other two were strangers, which is fine. She preferred it that way – made it easier beat the hell out of them, “Nice to meet you all,” she purposefully “forgets” to give her name. She doesn’t remember what was written down on the entry form. Penny perhaps? Probably Penny.

Before they can question it she lets the flash of light distract them. It morphs into a large, ethereal dragon. The Dragapult floats expectantly in front of Lex, eyeing the opponents with an eagerness that manifests in the Dreepy playfully running across its flat head before settling into their designated launches, “Get ready,” she warns, a command for the Dragapult to psych itself up with an AGILITY.

Zac grinned when he saw Bo's Pokemon. It was the Gigalith from their watermelon eating competition! While the big rock monster hadn't shown much in the way of face-melon coordination, he sure looked formidable, pounding away at the sand.

Before Zac had a chance to chat with the others, the battle had kicked off. Dragapult whizzed around, speeding up as it flexed its AGILITY. Odium tried to follow the flashy movements of the speedster, gave up, and instead roared, whipping up a thrashing SANDSTORM. The coarse bands of grain tore at the arena, sandblasting the color from the plastic and forcing Zac to put on the goggles Stormy Silph had leant him.

Bo noted the lack of introduction, but didn’t mention it. The focus was quickly turned to their battle, as the severity of the weather increased. With both Odium the Tyranitar and Gigalith’s SAND STREAM² active, the field was nearly impossible to see through already, and the force of blowing sand cut everywhere. Bo frantically reached for his own goggles, provided to him by the League for his ranger duties.

Of all things, a SAND STORM erupted, making the battlefield nothing more than a tornado of violent sediment.

Things sure had escalated quickly.

While Bo was certain Gigalith was fine and unaffected by the storm, he also knew it was likely damn near impossible for anyone to see—unless they had a trick up their sleeve.

For now, they would take advantage of the lack of visibility and set up traps.

“Gigalith: STEALTH ROCK.”

Various qualities and sizes of rocks and pebbles arose from the sand to scatter and float about the field, surrounding their opponents so that they might cut if they tried to leave their positions.

Ugh, SANDSOTRMS. This is the second one today and it was quite annoying. Understandable though considering they were on a beach. Dragapult isn’t entirely built for this sort of condition, but it could at least LOCK-ON to its targets. And that’s exactly what the dragon decided to do. Keen eyes scanned through the obscured battlefield. Eventually, they locked onto a shadow. Surprisingly, it’s the small shadow of the Meowth as it took a few more steps into the Sandstorm.

Small paws continuously brush its pristine fur, an annoyed scowl on its face as a result of sand getting stuck in terrible places. It unsheathes its claws, HONING them in preparation of the battle.

"What a storm!" Zac called, regretting it immediately as his mouth was filled with sand. It felt like there was enough behind his molars to build a fair sized sandcastle. Across the field, the accountant was knocked over by the harsh winds. The man took cover behind a nearby bench, leaving his battered Meowth to fend for itself.

Odium, meanwhile, was loving it. Long streamers of sand flailed from the holes in his chest, adding to the storm. He stomped forwards, taking his rightful place in the center of the action. "BYAROOOO!" he roared as he waded through the slashing STEALTH ROCKS. Nothing would stop him! He stomped great dents into the arena, marking his territory.

The sand swarming above them compacted into great chunks, and the boulder fell in a freshly formed ROCK SLIDE onto all of the other combatants.

The poor little Meowth managed to jump out of the way, as rocks cratered the arena.

Through the storm, Gigalith didn’t see the ROCK SLIDE coming. It hit cleanly, eliciting a roar from rock-type and sending it stumbling off-balance a little.

When it’d regained its footing, an IRON DEFENSE was taken on in preparation for another blow. The storm made things too thick to risk it without.

Instead of running in hot, they braced themselves.

Bo held a sleeve over his mouth, trying not to suffer the same misfortune as Zac had when he’d tried to speak.

Tyranitar took center stage, naturally. In its element, it welcomes the STEALTH ROCKS against its thick hide. The Dragpult grunts, eyes narrowing suspiciously at the slender stones that threaten to impale him. Not today! Keres is a ghost, and she intends to use that to her full advantage. Her figure flashes, melting way with the raging storm and into the phantom realm, where she’ll travel safely until she wishes to strike her blow.

In a desperate effort ot avoid being pummeled by the much larger pokemon, the small feline SCREECHES horribly to try and scare them off.

Meowth's SCREECH deepened, gaining timbre and height as the cat stretched upwards, swelling with economic power and feline muscle.

Gigantamax Meowth broke through the upper limits of the Sandstorm, and Tyranitar roared at its clear opponent. With a thunderous blast Odium shot a beam of white-hot energy at the cat. HYPER BEAM!

STEALTH ROCK proved ineffective for the Dragapult. Bo thought of Raphael Pryde , and his face went flat a moment, before he shook the unpleasant thought away again. Ghost-type trainers were tricky, and they were consistently besting him it seemed.

Something he needed to work on.

The lizard disappeared into nothing. Great. Eyes dart around, looking for a sign of something opening in the fabric of reality—both Bo’s, and his Gigalith’s.

Instead, they opted to attack the Meowth, who was SCREECHING terribly. It was impossible to ignore, and so Gigalith was hit effectively by the ROCK SLIDE, too distracted to evade—not damaging terribly, but still robbing it of its opportunity to attack.

In its frustration, the SANDSTORM picked up even more.

Well, the Gigantamax Meowth was unexpected. It grew taller and taller until eventually even the Tyranitar paled in comparison. Keres could see the disturbance from her phantom realm. The world around her is morphed, but recognizable. The sandstorm rages, but she floats through it like mist.

The Dragapult decides to aid the Tyranitar in its offensive against the large feline. When the hyper beam fades, Keres explodes forward from her hidden world, forcing a powerful burst of ghostly energy to knock the cat onto it’s butt, its slender body rocking to and fro from the light headedness the two attacks caused.

The Gigantamax Meowth staggered back from the force of the combined moves. Its long, wavy body wobbled backwards, tilting at an unstable angle, before it tumbled forward and slammed down right on top of Tyranitar!

"Come on Odium!" Zac shouted, cheering on his flattened champion.

Bo watched, wide-eyed at the unfolding battle—particularly the severe crushing of Zac’s Tyranitar. Ouch.

Back to the big-ass Meowth centerstage in the center of a roaring SANDSTORM. Shit. Gigalith decided to go after it to, firing a POWER GEM at it as it trampled over the Tyranitar.

Pissed, the giant cat looked back with its ferocious face snarling, before its G-MAX GOLD RUSH sent the rock monster flying across the arena, eventually stilling and collecting a drift of sand before the storm died down. It had FAINTED.

“Damn.”

All around them were gold coins. “Woah.”

Bo picked one up, assessing as he returned his Gigalith.
