[break][break] not until he was cleaning out his room on the sub had he found it — all the things he'd put together from the vital spirit festival all those months ago. when he was clipping the remains of plants that had gone dead during his time in the hospital, he had seen the special carrot seeds splayed onto the desk.

[break][break] after a few weeks of research in the library, he'd learned of a rumor that he intended to explore.

[break][break] and that was how he found himself at the top of mt. pyre, fingers red from being rubbed in the red dust that surrounded most of the mountain. it was a small patch of greenery set aside from the rest of the mountain, though the heat still was scalding down his back.

[break][break] when done with the dask, jayden stood up. he pulled the front of his black shirt away from him, reaching for a water bottle that he'd brought along for the ride. he took a well-deserved gulp of water.

for his whole life, aaron has been grounded. not emotionally, of course, but physically. when groudon flew into a rage, he had watched literally everyone take to the skies on personal air chauffeurs. meanwhile, he had gotten rocks and lava hurled at him like he was a ring toss game at a fair and groudon was a newly-minted boyfriend trying to impress his girl by winning a plushie. after that whole ordeal, aaron had gone out and parted with some fast food money in order to obtain some sky privilege. he gets a charizard, he hops on board. just a quick flight, he thinks. [break][break]
it doesn't go as planned. it rarely does.

charizard lands at the peak of mt pyre of her own volition, her wings kicking up red dust as she slows her descent. aaron slides off her back and onto the ground in a helpless sprawl, fingers curling in the dirt as he embraces the sweet solidity of earth for the first time since he took off from his place in lilycove. he lays there, face pale, eyes wide, and, for once in his life, makes no dumbass quips.

[attr="class","jayden"] of all the things that jayden expected to see at the top of mt. pyre, a dead body was not one of them.

[break][break] perhaps he should talk to samuel carter about it. was he running out of space to keep his dead bodies?

[break][break] his head tilts skyward as a shadow covers the sun. it's a minute later that he realizes that it isn't a shadow but a charizard, who claws to the top of the mountain and releases her prisoner, the male body sliding into a heap into the ground.

[break][break] not many things surprise jayden. this does. his mouth is slightly agape as he stares, unsure of what this scene was. it is only a flicker of light that catches his attention, a much larger shadow suddenly hovering over the human body, and it is belatedly that jayden realizes it's a dusclops. his feet kick against the ground as he sprints towards the human, his hands reaching for the pokeball at his waist with inexplicable speed.

[break][break] janos surges in front of him, throwing a sludge bomb the wild pokemon's way to try to put some distance between the human body and the dusclops trying to claim his soul. while the pokemon is distracted with the attack, jayden tosses a pokeball, the sphere wizzing past.

[break][break] jayden kneels before the "dead" body, fingers going to the other's throat, looking for a heartbeat. at his side, his vaporeon materializes and attempts an AQUA RING at aaron to try to heal him from the brink of uncertain death.

flying is kind of uncool, now that aaron has experienced it. he's not formulating that opinion on his stomach-flipping ride from lilycove to mt. pyre, of course. he's looking at things objectively. he's looking at the sky, objectively, as he slithers off his charizard's back and lands in a heap in the red dust below. no, yeah, flying is super lame and everyone who uses it as their main mode of transportation is super —

a shadow blots out the light beating down on him, one eye peering down at him. before he can process his oncoming demise, the sound of footsteps quickly approaches. then the wet, thick thunk of a sludge bomb making impact. then the all-too-familiar click of a pokeball opening wide to swallow up a wild pokemon.

fingers brush his neck and he shoots upright, revived by unexpected man-to-man contact. aaron blinks at the other man, mentally stomping down his earlier dramatics so he can look as cool as possible now that he knows another human being is around to witness.

"what the fuck is this?" rings of water surround him, threatening to put the actual drip on his drip. "look, bro, i don't know what you want but we can talk about it without this shit." he gestures towards the aqua ring.
