Nearly two weeks had come and gone since being buried in the Mauville hills. The days that had passed since then had been a blur of hurt and darkness. Procedure after procedure, if he wasn't being cut on, he was recovering from being cut on. Throughout most of this time, only his mother was allowed visitation.

Mostly unconscious, he had missed his fourteenth birthday. Handily, Celia Auclair had put a calendar on the wall of his hospital room, presumably because she got tired of him asking what day it was when he was awake. Finally however, his leg was whole enough that no more surgeries were required. A drip of pain killers in his IV kept things bearable.

And the best part, he could receive visitors. Although the room wasn't made up for it. He kept his corner room shrouded in darkness, with the long slatted blinds closed. Despite being white, like nearly everything else within, they did a fine job of blocking out the sun. The plastic must have been thick. Instead only a flatscreen television on a high stand in the corner cast light across the boy.

His railed bed controlled so he could sit in the upright position, Andy was clad in only a hospital gown, which would have been rather revealing could he actually move. The braces attached to the bed reached up and over to elevate his injured right leg with cords, clad in a cast that ran up to his thigh. Though the gown and the sheets on the bed laid across him to keep things modest.

Matching his leg, another thick cast encased his left arm up his his elbow, and his other leg up to his knee. The swelling on his head had long since gone down, leaving him with only a black eye as a memento. Various other bruises and band-aids decorated the rest of whatever exposed flesh there was. His hair was in absolute disarray, but keeping up appearances was the least of his concerns here.

His right arm, his only good limb save for the bandages around his hand, held the clicker for the television. The channels flipped by, reflected in his glassy brown eyes. He was looking for the show that everyone watched when they needed to feel better: 'Let's Make a Deal.' Perhaps it was the drugs, or perhaps it was just part of the recovery, but he was having trouble focusing...

There was a reason why Arashi had a dislike of hospitals.

He was reminded of the period in his life he’d spent a lot of time in them, being told that he would be an invalid for life. But he’d showed them, fuck that shit!

And now he had to set foot in one again after a long-ass time.

There was a bit of a scowl, but it was for one of the kids that they’d… accidentally left behind during their expedition (and eventually went back for, thank shit) who had somehow ended up in even worse condition than what was let on.

It took him some time before he eventually found the room that had a ‘Blackadder’ listed on it. There was some confusion as there were two Blackadders admitted at the moment, however he managed to clarify he was looking for the male Blackadder.

Since it was visiting hours, and apparently he was there first—

He decided to let himself in.

“Damn, that bad?” he said at last once he saw the other boy after letting himself into the room.

“Also, the hell man, I had a time looking for you. That’s your name, not Andy?” he added a few moments afterward.

Trying to keep tabs on Andy's condition wasn't easy. It wasn't like Hideo could just call the hospital to check up on him, and even once visitors were allowed, Hideo didn't really have the means to visit on his own, considering how far Mauville was and his parents getting a bit more restrictive after the incident that got Andy injured. All information about Andy's condition had to be second-hand or third-hand. But Hideo was able to hear about Andy's condition, and that he was going to be alright - though it did take a number of surgeries and he would have to stay in the hospital a while longer.

And maybe one of his sources also shared that Andy's birthday had passed while he was in the hospital. And he didn't get a birthday celebration! Even if Andy had been unconscious on his birthday, there was no reason why he couldn't have a party now. And his parents finally permit him to visit Andy, so why not have a small one now?

To that end, Hideo had taken some time preparing his contribution. It'd taken a number of attempts until he felt he'd gotten it right, and it took help from both his parents and his Pokemon to make, but he felt this one was just right: a chocolate tart, the recipe for which he'd gotten from Andy after their first dance lesson.

So now Hideo made his way to Andy's room, guided by the hospital staff and his Beheeyem. It wouldn't take long to find the room, though the moment they did, his Beheeyem informed him about how dark the room was - save for the television.

And that he wasn’t the first one here; Arashi Akiyama had gotten here before him. Elga filled him in on that pretty quickly too.

Hideo would knock on the door, both to be polite and to make sure they didn't shock Andy on entry. "Hey Andy, hey Arashi," Hideo said, carrying the tinfoil-wrapped tart in his arms. "Pretty sure they say sunlight is good for you, 'specially if you're cooped up inside. And Elga's telling me you're getting everything but sunlight right now."

BRUISED BIRTHDAY BASH

The follies meet.

Just before the door closed behind Hideo, it swung wide open with a kick, the momentum of it carrying forth one Captain Sullivan's body into the room with a solid stomp.

He was dressed in full uniform, meaning he had come straight from his place of work, and had a box under his arm held firmly as he gazed around the room and smiled brightly.

"Sunlight, got it." He said as he marched past, ruffling Hideo's hair (naturally) and holding out his fist towards Arashi with a grin before grabbing the curtains firmly with one hand and flinging them aside.

"Now..." He said, turning around with a sweep of his arm, cape flapping dramatically as the sunlight haloed him, the youth leaning against the windowsill. "What's up, Andrew? We come with good news!"

He placed the large box on the nightstand besides Andy's bed.

Birthdays and hospitals never go together. This is a lesson that Eris has learnt and remembered all too clearly. Even as she trembles in spirit and quails at the sight, there is but a single comfort that beckons her to take a deep breath and step inside. Reiner curls his tail around her arm, always keeping pace with her as they wander through the busy hallways together.

Thankfully, it doesn't take long for her to find the room, scarlet gaze flickering over the name plate as she gently pushes upon the door.

"Hi..." She murmurs, attention briefly snatched by the things that the others carry in their hands. Gifts? Had she missed the memo or something? Probably. In her defense, she's never had the chance to know Andy Blackadder for the person he really is, so she doesn't quite feel comfortable enough bringing him something that he might scoff at - At least, from what little she can tell of his personality.

She's quick to take an empty seat and settle in the corner furthest away from the bed, sitting cross-legged in it as Reiner curls up at her feet.

The door swinging open made him jump slightly in surprise. A wince immediately followed. Such sudden movements were painful. The blond's question went almost unnoticed. The aches passed quickly though, thanks to the drugs being fed intravenously into the boy. Clearing his throat in the hopes that such an unrelated action would help ease the hurt, he answered.

''Yeah, sucks to say, but that bad.'' His eyelids only blinked a few times as the boy commented on his name, at first uncertain what Arashi meant. Then the realization came that the hospital probably used his full name on whatever files or charts they had. ''Yeah...'' came the reply after a disgusted sigh.

''Guess you weren't paying attention to Buzzer in the forest. Which would be a good thing. Guess it doesn't make a fuck now.'' This perhaps would have led to a rant, if Hideo hadn't slid through the door not long after. The Galarian's eyes the focused on the container carted within his arms. What had he made? So many of his friends were much better cooks than he was.

''Yo, Hideo.'' The greeting was returned before the kid mentioned the low light environment. ''Never thought I would hear a blind kid gripe about darkness. My eyes are still kinda scorched from the cave. Hours and hours of pitch fucking black.'' Before anything else could be said though another noise startled Andy to a miserable flinch.

It was Doug, dressed in his League's best.

''Hey! Wait asshol-'' Of course the older boy went right for the windows (after providing headpats to Hideo, naturally) and threw the blinds aside. ''Ah! Mother fucker!'' Face crinkling, he covered his eyes with his one working arm. Calling him Andrew was insult to injury. ''I was enjoying bloody eyesight until just now! Want two damn blind friends?!''

Rubbing his burning eyes the voluminous parcel placed at his bedside did not escape his notice.

''What's all this then?'' Eris sneaking in after the Captain's gaudy entrance too almost went unnoticed, especially with as sore as his eyes were. The quiet little voice stood out more than the action. ''Hey, Eris.'' If it wouldn't have hurt so bad to chuckle because of his bruised lungs he would have. ''Even if you were, you wouldn't be the only one.''

Hideo grinned, amused by Andy's response. "Well, doesn't really affect me that much, but I'm sure everyone else likes some light." Only reason he even knew it was dark was courtesy of his Beheeyem. "And sunlight's good for you! It's supposed to help make your bones stronger or something. And you'll need it to help your bones heal."

That's what his limited medical knowledge told him anyways.

But before he could poke further fun at Andy, Hideo could feel the rush of air from the kicked-open door, and that hair-ruffle betrayed the culprit immediately. And he knew exactly what Doug was about to do.

But Hideo didn't have enough time to tell him to stop, and Andy's protests were ignored as Hideo heard the curtains be opened and Andy suffered its effects. That little joke about going blind got a chuckle out of Hideo, at least. "Well, if you need help learning how to be blind, you know who to call~"

Though through his chuckles and Andy's suffering, Hideo could hear another arrival. He needed Elga's help to identify them, but once Hideo knew who it was, he turned and waved to her. "Hey Eris," he said. "You can come in. If you're an intruder, then so are all of us!"

Hideo tapped his Beheeyem's head, getting his Pokemon's attention. "Help me find a table, Elga," he said, his Pokemon quickly guiding him to one.

"Crazy that we all wanted to come here at the same time!" Hideo said, placing his foil-wrapped treat on the table. "One more person and we'll have everyone here!" That meaning everyone that went on the initial hunt.

Though what were the odds of their sixth member showing up?

The room suddenly going bright made him cringe for a few moments and shield his eyes with his right hand.

“Damn, that’s bright,” he hissed as he blinked a few times as everyone else slowly filtered in. He noted that Hideo and Doug had brought packages with them, and then he wondered—

“Wait, if that’s what I think it is,” he began as he gestured towards the bigger box, “…then how the hell are we going to eat it? Like savages?”

He chuckled for a few moments.

“Look, if you need someone to grab paper plates and forks and a knife then I can definitely do that for you.”

After all, it was partially her fault that they went into that cave anyways. Regardless, she could only do so much at the moment. As nothing more than a volunteer, not even a nurse, she was pretty much limited to helping out with incredibly small issues that could be fixed with a bandaid. Even still, it seemed the hospital enjoyed her presence. The Saint of Slateport volunteering there was probably a good look for them, anyways. [break][break]

Finally getting off for the day, still wearing her scrubs, she found herself almost instinctively heading up to Andy's room, expecting him to be in some state of half between consciousness. And yet, she heard plenty of familiar voices inside. It seems like the others couldn't stay away either. They really had bonded over everything, it seems. [break][break]

Unlike most of the others, Ruby would politely knock on the door to announce her presence before gently stepping inside. If it wasn't for her pink hair and the slight Galarian accent she spoke with, it would have been fairly easy to confuse her for an employee. "Well, I see the party is all here, it seems. I do apologize for being quite late."[break][break]

She would quietly chuckle, closing the door behind her. "Or, has the party yet to begin? I really should pay a bit more attention." She would have asked how Andy Blackadder was doing, but quite frankly it seemed like he would only be annoyed by it with everyone else already here. Instead, she'd give him a polite nod in greeting.

Coincidence that they all wish to meet here, or a tug of fate itself? Perhaps, their wavelengths are a little more in sync than she'd first expected. Though, communicating about Andy Blackadder's birthday might have been nice... Then again, they're barely acquaintances with a shared experience when she thinks long and hard about it.

BRUISED BIRTHDAY BASH

The follies meet.

"You'll live."

Doug was all wide grins and pure joy. His friend was alive and well enough to curse up a storm, and the rest of his new friends just kept coming, coming, coming.

"'Ello Eris! What he means is- Welcome to the party!" He said throwing a mock salute and a grin at Eris Halla and Ruby Walker as they walked in, before pulling out one of the many chairs around and turning it around to drop his ass on it like a 'cool' teacher.

He sniffed at Arashi Akiyama, squinting.

"Nooo..." He said, before peering into the box nervously to see if there were any plastic cuttlery inside.

Nope.

"Maybe."

He nodded thankfully at Arashi's offer, before turning his attention towards Andy, grinning.

"Anyway... Got Phantom Force handy? Got a little favor to ask!" He said, before winking. "Mainly... Need some help getting this thing to the roof."

His hand slapped atop the bed twice to clarify.

"This place is friggin' depressing. Let's go get some real air."

The little girl fidgeting in the corner of the room had nothing to do with this choice, no sir.

Almost on cue with Hideo's mention of her, Ruby seemed to arrive to join the rest of his doomed expedition party. Retina's still scorched, he could have sworn she was wearing scrubs. Did the girl work as a nurse? Part of him wouldn't be surprised. It seemed like a good career for her, all things considered. Andy was more concerned with the need for disposable dishware.

It was uncertain if the 'maybe' uttered by the captain was in answer to his query or not, but interest in the mystery box were allayed by the proclamation of their intended upward direction. ''What!?'' Going to sit up quickly earned the patient a wince of agony before he eased back and spoke through clinched teeth.

''Are you fucking bonkers?! As soon as all this equipment disappears the nurses are going to think I am dead! The ward will be in a bloody panic!'' A pleading look at shot at Ruby for some manner of reinforcements here. ''And there's no damned AC on the roof! Did you bring everyone here just to watch me get tortured!? Arceus fuck!''

The odds didn't seem high, yet Hideo recognized that voice quickly. "And Ruby Walker too!" Hideo said. They really all were here! Did some mythical Pokemon tweak fate so this would happen, or was it really one big coincidence? "Guess it was destiny for us all to meet again! We can really start the party now!"

For a moment, Hideo assumed Arashi Akiyama was talking about the food that he brought - his Beheeyem hadn’t mentioned the box Doug brought. “Well, I guess I got a bit of a solution~” Hideo said, unwrapping the foil to reveal the chocolate tart hidden within - and a butter knife he had wrapped with it. “Couldn’t really bring plates, but we should be able to split it with this! And I’m sure we could use some paper towels as plates if we have to.”

But Hideo’s ignorance was shattered by Andy Blackadder outright saying what it was. “Wait, Doug brought a cake?” Well, that certainly one-upped what he brought. Unless it was a tiny cake. Knowing John Sullivan , it wasn’t a tiny cake. “Well, that just means more for everyone! We can have cake and chocolate tarts!”

Though Doug’s suggestion did get an eyebrow raise from Hideo. “I mean, even if they got some kind of top floor that’s closed off, we do want to show some mercy for poor old Andy. Wouldn’t want him going blind now do we?” A smug smile from Hideo; he knew how that’d sound coming from him. “And we can torture Andy just fine in here, where we know there’s an AC.”

The follies meet.

"The Chaplain did say I might have a few screws loose..." The youth replied while tapping at his chin, looking otherwise unperturbed by Andy Blackadder's wild response as he gestured with his eyes at Andy towards the corner of the room.

"The city's a bloody mall, mate. Yes there is air conditioning on the roof."

He then rolled his eyes dropping back down on his seat, his gaze turning towards Hideo Kino.

"Ya brought Chocolate tarts, Hideo?"

Oh hell yeah, the sugar rush was about to get wild.

He reached over to grab the box, before whistling sharply at Eris Halla.

"Oi Eris, help me cut this thing, eh?"

An awkward silence fills the space between her and Doug, an uneasy roll of her shoulders following a quiet breath in and out. Eventually, she does get up to help, albeit remaining a little hesitant in her approach.
