After searching far and wide upon Mt. Pyre, Derek decided the next day he'd try Route 121 specifically. Not for any reason in particular, just a change of pace. Though perhaps the relatively beaten path 121 provided would be an easier venture than Mt. Pyre.

A brisk pace brought him past the beginning stretch of the path, where another trainer appeared to be. "Yo." Derek starts, moving closer to the individual in a non-threatening manner. "Looking for psychic pokemon too?"

He'd been seeing more trainers out here. Perhaps he and his coworkers at the Baristacats weren't the only ones bestowed a mysterious device?

He seems friendly, perhaps too friendly for someone approaching a completely unfamiliar person, but Mars won’t judge him too harshly for his carelessness. Or, well, at least he’ll try not judge him too harshly.

He echoes the other’s words, feinting confusion if only for a second. If this man is looking for Psychic pokémon at this time out of all times, it’s probably no coincidence. As far as Mars can tell, it’s likely that he was also one of the recipients to a mysterious device...

"Not until just now." Derek responds, index finger sourcing the cause for his words. A deft hand releases his Grimmsnarl, Crota, which quickly applies a SUCKER PUNCH to the unsuspecting. It's timing and the power it's hair-based muscle fibers proved critical in that moment, forcing the pokemon unconscious.

"I get we're strangers and all, but I was curious..." Reaching for a spare pokeball with one hand to use for capture, the other, dominant handle momentarily reveals a mysterious device before tucking it back into his pocket. "You get one of them too?"

He wasn't the first person Derek found roaming the area. Many seemed drawn to it. Whatever the report was about, it was only a small matter of time until they found out.

He gives a short approving nod, inevitably thinking back to the memory of his battle against DANNY HALL at the tournament. How strange to think that all that had happened only a couple of months ago.

Briefly, when the other reaches for a pokéball, he catches a glimpse of a mysterious device much like his own.

Seems as if his hunch had been right after all.

”I do.” A Gothita crosses their path, and all it takes is a quiet click of his tongue for it to be stopped on its tracks. HYPNOSIS leads it into slumber within mere seconds, a NIGHT SLASH following in a display of perfect synchronization on part of the pair of Inkay. Swift and effective.

"No clue." Deciphering cryptic messages wasn't his thing. He could ready the letters and words they spelled at best. But that line of thought had been interrupted by a Dreepy that wondered close.

A Grimmsnarl had been released to combat the little guy, delivering a sucker punch with great success. Though excessive, it achieved the purpose of fainting the pokemon for capture. Using a pokeball to capture it, Derek collected the item and placed it in his pocket before turning his attention back to the individual.

"My best guess is that Rocket is behind it. Or some wacky scientist type that has way too much time on their hands." The third option was extraterrestrial. But Derek didn't want to feed into that mindset, proving worried about another war.

Mars' isn't half bad, giving the impression they had some practice in that regard. "As for what they hope to achieve, I don't know. Never really been one to think on it so much. I just know there doesn't seem to be a lot of good coming Hoenn's way as of late."

"Not until the grand reveal, like something out of the movies." Aka when it was too late, or just about. Fortunately Hoenn had a way of pulling through, just not completely unscathed. That was what made the soul harbor ill feelings towards the whole thing. "Would be nice if the Unown would just spell it out for us." Ignoring the wild pokemon that seemed to be drawing near, Derek allowed the other trainer to deal with them while he looked at the new message on his phone.

Optimism doesn’t suit Mars, and seeing people act so casual about this whole Unown Report situation only serves to remind him why he doesn’t trust the League to deal with things. But of course…It’s not like he can just go and say that, can he? He just chuckles at Derek’s comment instead, a simple nod commanding his Inkay to deal with the nearby Kirlia.
