Today was a day for visiting.

Well, he’d already done visited a certain flower shop down at Oldale, and a lot of that ice cream he’d brought along was gone so he only had a couple of extra pints left. Thankfully, he could easily keep them frozen—all he had to do was hold them for a few minutes.

So there he was, a paper bag near his feet as he sat close to the water’s edge, a fishing pole set up to his left, a bucket not too far away.

He also had—quite a number of Pokéballs to use up; and he was looking for two very specific Pokémon. Hopefully he’d be able to find them.

For now though, his hands were busy as he was holding the pistachio pint of ice cream and going through it with a wooden spoon.

seemingly appearing out of the blue — perhaps a trait he's picked up from virizion — matias approaches the water's edge, offering lars a small wave and a smile.

behind him are three floating cloysters, and as they near the water, they all fall into it, enjoying the coolness.

“It is. Want one? I bought a little too many so I still have a few left,” he gestured as he pointed to the paper bag.

While the fishing pole hadn’t bent, a Masquerain had decided to come interrupt the quiet scene. The loud, sibilant humming of its wings was sure to scare away any of the Pokémon in the water. Before he could do anything about it, though, a sudden Gust of wind threatened to knock said fishing pole over.

However, a powerful blast of Psychic energy from somewhere prevented the Masquerain from doing any more damage.

There was a burnished silver Metagross resting some distance away, its metal coat glinting in the afternoon light as another, more powerful burst of Ominous Wind from the tiny Masquerain threatened to shatter the peace.

A secondary blast of Psychic stopped that from happening, though—and an empty Pokéball thrown at the Masquerain to stop it from doing any more damage than it already had.

ice cream is a fantastic treat and a good way to cool down from the heat of hoenn. not that it's particularly hot right now as it's autumn, but still, pretty hot.

a volbeat flutters into the scene only to be spiked by an ICICLE CRASH. it turns, looking to ZEN HEADBUTT something but all of the cloysters sit comfortably in the water. more ICICLE CRASH follow, and down it goes into a pokeball.

matias moves to sit next to lars, then reaches into the paper bag for an ice cream.

Once the other was done rummaging through the paper bag, he reached into the pocket of his jacket and handed the other a wooden spoon.

“Here,” he said, handing the spoon after he’d taken another bite of the pint he was holding.

The fishing line was deader than a demolished restaurant, it wasn’t shaking—however the sounds of an angry Pinsir from behind tipped him off that there was something headed their way.

This time it was the Lucario, who’d been meditating some distance away from the Metagross who engaged with the Bug-type as it came in for a Vital throw, only to be met with a point-blank Meteor Mash to the face.

“Looking for anything specific?” he asked after another bite of ice cream.

The sounds of battle continued behind him, as the Pinsir then tried to wrestle the Lucario to the ground with a Seismic Toss; however this was intercepted by a one-two Extreme Speed attack.

Once the sounds of battle were over, he threw another vacant Pokéball backwards toward where the two had fought, and the Lucario had to catch the Pokéball (as it went too far wide) before chucking it at the collapsed Pinsir.

accepting the spoon, he pops open the lid of his vanilla ice cream and wastes little time in digging in. it tastes fantastic.

at lars' question, he nods.

"some water-types would be nice."

and look at that! a water-type!

the AQUA TAIL dashes through the water, slamming into one of the cloysters' shell with a powerful thud. it does little against the IRON DEFENSE, however, as a few WHIRLPOOL picks up, wrapping around the poor totodile.

a pokeball saves it.

"you looking for anything?"

“Specifically? A Lanturn. And Slowpoke. A lot… of… Slowpoke,” he said after eating some more pistachio-flavored ice cream.

The Lucario had little time to process the caught Pinsir when another Pokémon came from the opposite direction—headed straight at the Metagross who had finally calmed down and was in the middle of relaxing.

A loud Bug Buzzing noise interrupted the silence, and the Metagross’s red eyes trailed after the loud Mothim, who wanted attention—and attention it would get in the form of several rainbow-colored orbs of Psychic power, bursting after the annoying, loud Bug-type.

A shriek cut the silence, and the Lucario cringed, yet the Metagross was already on it. an attempt at Psybeam was chucked at the silver beast; however another exploding rainbow-colored orb of Psychic energy came crashing into the Mothim, overwhelming it and forcing it to crash land.

This time, a Pokéball rolled by the Lucario saves the Mothim from any further damage.

he continues eating ice cream, not really minding the commotion behind them.

"why? are you gonna cut their tails off?"

in the background, a kakuna shows up with its HARDENED shell only to be shot with an ICICLE CRASH. it screeches, falling to the ground and into a pokeball.

Lars looked over at Matias with this incredulous look on his face.

“What the hell, man, I’m one of the Head Rangers! You think I’m going to do that?!” he replied, this look of nothing but absolute shock crossing his features. “I’m not like that!”

In order to prove a point, he stuck the wooden spoon in the pint and with his other hand, fished out his phone. Quickly swiping through the menus, he found the app he was looking for and then showed it to the other.

“There’s this message board I’m a part of, they have Pokémon knowledge challenges. One of the current running challenges set out is to document all the currently-existing kinds of Slowpoke and their differences from each other,” he explained.

Over by the shore, a Brionne had gotten up from the solitary position on the ground, retreating back into the water with a splashing noise.

“The message board’s big on unusual Pokémon typings, abilities, and formes—so that’s why I’m looking for all those Slowpoke.”

lars is a head ranger so surely he wouldn't do something as bad as that!

he squints, looking at the app before nodding.

"ah. that makes more sense. i'm glad you're not a slowpoke tail eater."

meanwhile, ledyba's smacked out of the air by an ICICLE CRASH, which seems to be the common theme going on here today. it retaliates with a MACH PUNCH but closing the distance only works against it. thankfully, a pokeball saves it from fainting.
