The tree of life that had suddenly appeared in Sootopolis. Serena knew about it well. Mostly for it being the resting place of Cas but also for her plenty of ventures to the tree for business purposes. Rocket was planning a major venture into the tree once some things were finalized. [break][break]

If Yveltal was entrusting them with a personal mission to investigate the tree then that would be the best time to do so and they'd be able to go together without questions being raised. But the way Yveltal spoke of the tree put her on edge and made her uneasy. This was confirmed when he turned to speak to her. [break][break]

"...The dead are meant to return here, always and forever... Sequestered in blight, the soul rots in isolation... Return to that place... retrieve what was interred... And you may yet reverse its nightmare... Grant sanctuary..."[break][break]

Serena's amber hues widened as she staggered back a little. "No way..." she muttered as a shaky hand covered her mouth. Out of desperation she figured that laying Cas to rest there would by some miracle grant her wish to see him once more. But in truth she was hurting him? He couldn't even rest in peace because of her selfish desires?[break][break]

She suddenly felt like she was going to be sick. But Yveltal had spoke like there was still hope. So that must mean there was a chance to save him, she just needed to act quickly. Lowering her head and allowing her hands to drop to her sides, they curled into fists. "...Or don't—but if you would see your dreams made manifest... then you must confront this umbra, this shadow that has fallen upon the land..."[break][break]

That wasn't an option. She'd save him and see him once more, no matter what. After she felt Yveltal's presence leave she stood still, frozen in place for a bit. "...And here I thought it didn't like guests..." Adrian muttered dryly. Serena only assumed Yveltal had entertained her at all due to her bond with Adrian. And the fact that she could be useful to him. That's how it usually went anyway. [break][break]

People only stuck around so long as they could get something from her. [break][break]

"When does Rocket intend to delve the tree?" As he spoke she made her way back towards his Spectrier and hopped on. "Soon. Extremely soon, so we need to get prepared now. Take me back." She said as she glanced back at Adrian. "I've got a lot of work to do if I'm to be ready by the time we get the call to venture in."

MOD POST FOR ADRIAN AND SERENA

AND IN FACT, Adrian Malcolm's intuition may prove to be true, for it is only natural that powers develop through use. Although he may view his abilities as a curse, a sadistic skein of fate that seeks to torture him and bereave him of intimacy, it bestows unto him the understanding that a life of ordinary pleasures is delicate. Frail.

Perhaps, it is an impossibility now. Being born in a time of tumult and thrust into an era of repeating violence.

However, like a muscle of the macabre, Adrian himself must be broken down in order to grow. One can look to the Ruins of Regirock to see how it has reset his bones.

His powers are but one half of a greater whole. Of a greater cycle. Life leads unto death and death unto new life— such wisdom must take root in Adrian as he learns to love his destiny.

Meanwhile, Serena Malcolm is watched by Walsh from the shadows. She may mourn the loss of her Liepard— but is her desire for vengeance enough for her to hold onto her claim of Beast? Perhaps, the grief is too much to bear. An overwhelming burden that Adrian Malcolm knows all too well.

However, grief does not diminish by the day. For life to begin, one must grow around it.
