his eyes narrow just a little.

"you'll manage without them," she retorts, cradling smoochy boo closer to her chest without hesitation. the pink baby sighs, yawns, and settles in for a nap.

her golett, meanwhile, slowly begins to fall into a light slumber. a soft snore escapes from the baby automaton before it's slumping into matias's side. while it's not small and warm like smoochy boo, it's still a cute comfort.

if he looks for cuddles from the ninetales, however, he'll be met with the snapping of teeth. a pity, really. flammae is a space heater but picky as hell about people.

"you know," her eyes drift lazily toward him, a smirk taking hold of her lips. "you're lucky i don't steal."

yes, he would, but it's fun to pretend like he wouldn't.

he brings an arm to pull the baby automaton closer, holding it as it slumps into his side. not nearly as warm or cuddly, it's still adorable.

"you really think i'd let you steal her from me?"

defiance flares once again, this time mingled with playfulness.

"you could always just ask."

and just for good measure, her smile turns defiant.

"why ask when i can fight you instead?" not like he'd roll over and allow it, anyway, but that's besides the point.

the golett lets out another snore. it's a little louder, a little longer, and it dissolves into a sigh toward the end.

"besides, you act like you'd even say yes." while she speaks, her ninetales bristles slightly. an abra teleports a little too close to the group for flammae's liking. the silver fox is quick to snap teeth together and just as fast as the abra appears, it leaves in a quick flash of shimmering tan.

in the background, dusknoir quickly handes the cursola that appears with a precise SHADOW BALL. try holding a GRUDGE while unconscious, binch.

she lets out a light laugh at the thought. their versions of nice definitely differ.

”no,” her smile is all teeth, an open challenge. ”i’m not asking nor will i be nice.” she also does not need to remind him what happened last time he underestimated her.

his submission brings a victorious grin onto her lips, twisting into the curves of her cheeks.

"thank you," she chirps happily. right now, it looks as though there will be no reminders of last time for today. not unless he plans on acting up, anyway.

her golett is heavy when it slumps fully into his side. lured into a peaceful slumber, it rumbles softly and raises a small clay hand to reach for the source of warmth at its side. good luck escaping now, matias.

"that could be forever," she points it out with ease, her hand rising to rub soothing circles into smoochy boo's back.

meanwhile, her ninetales uproots herself from the group. movement draws her attention and holds it with greedy fingers. and when illeana glances over her shoulder, she sees the silver fox beginning to dart around in circles, chasing after a moving tree. upon further inspection, it's a trevenant trying to keep its leaves from being burned by the little wisps of fire escaping from flammae's mouth. it seeks refuge at illeana's side, as if it has observed enough to know the ninetales won't try anything in front of its trainer. and for a little bit, it works... at least, until the trevenant steps too close to the woman and the sleeping baby.

after that, it's a half powered will-o-wisp that makes the trevenant scramble. illeana's only half paying attention when she tosses the pokeball in its general direction.

the golett is much heavier than he thinks. it almost pins him down as it leans against him, but he manages to pull his arm free if only to wrap it around the automaton instead.

"i doubt it. she'll miss me too much."

but there's doubt in the way he says it, as though he knows that there's a possibility smoochy boo might be happier elsewhere.

is he certain smoochy boo wouldn’t miss her just as much?

her golett snuggles closer to matias without much thought behind it. no, it’s too busy whining and twitching, a dream overtaking all senses for the little automaton. and for a moment, she stares at the scene.

a hand extends and she’s brushing gentle fingers along the golett’s facial structure. pink coils of mist bleed from open pores and it settles the golett into a more peaceful slumber.

whatever nightmare had begun to take hold was no more.

pink mist curls, bleeding over the sleeping golett to ease away its nightmares. he's transfixed by the scene, unable to look away because it's only then that he realizes that her pink mist is nothing to be feared. they may look similar but they're vastly different.

he smiles, meeting her gaze.
