”Thanks for the hand,” Locke yawned. “I don’t think I’d ever make it through the week without it.”

Apparently that interview he’d given about getting chased around a cemetery had done more marketing work for him than any newspaper ad space he’d ever bought combined. The extra work had been more than welcome during the slow season, but now that the holidays were officially here it was starting to catch up to him.

”Ya really don’t mind using the plane for this? I don’t wanna impose or anythin’…” They asked a little more nervously. Beside them, Quin-Quin admired the vessel slack-jawed.

“If I minded, I wouldn’t have offered to partner up.” Comes the simple response, cut short by a grunt as Angelo hauls a large crate of parcels up onto the edge of the cargo bay. [break][break]

Sweat slightly tickles against the bare skin of his arms, his jacket long tossed aside as he and Locke had worked to load up the Delibird Deliveries extensive holiday orders. [break][break]

Waiting in the plane interior, Locket shuffles forward to help drag the wooden container fully into the depths, playing the part of organiser as she rearranges their deliveries with the efficiency of a star Tetris player. [break][break]

“Y’know you only have to ask. I know how crazy it can get over the holidays.” Dusting off his hands, a knowing smile is thrown the postman’s way. He’d experienced the Hoenn delivery route first-hand himself last year… [break][break]

“Besides, I’m not going to turn down the opportunity to make myself a little holiday bonus.” A shameless chuckle breezes past his lips, only partially kidding as he gives Locke a pat on the shoulder when he passes. [break][break]

Angelo hadn’t been lying when he’d said they only had to ask. Delibird Deliveries – Locke – had his support. [break][break]

Locke nodded, flashing a grateful smile to their friend. ”Hopefully we can make it worth your while,” they said as they passed their last box, a Chia Pet depicting the cast of Golden Girls, to Locket.

“How much more have we got?”

“Uh…” Six more Delibird marched down the dock with full tails. A small Piplup trailed at the back of the flock, dragging a thick, white bag about twice his size. ”I think this is the last of it.”

Locke took the sack from Pip-Pip, much to the penguin’s chagrin, hefting it into the plane behind the other birds. ”Ready when you are pilot prince!”

Locket takes the box from her namesake, turning it over in her flippers. It takes her a little longer to organise it than the other parcels, too busy looking confused and tilting her head to the side in befuddlement. Apparently, she had never seen a Chia Pet before.[break][break]

Or at least one not quite so… creative. [break][break]

“Great, march ‘em here guys.” [break][break]

Angelo bends down to help the Delibird, plus one Piplup, get the last of their deliveries into the cargo bay. Before long the last of it is all organised, with just enough space in the back for the birds to sit. The pilot ushers them all to get in, before his gaze turns towards Locke, mouth pressed into a purposefully thin line. [break][break]

Pilot Prince... Looks like that one's stuck around.[break][break]

“If you’ve got one for the Galarian Prince, I’m saying it got lost in transit.” Trust Angelo to give Remiel Calcifet the short end of the stick, while Locke gets off scott free. [break][break]

“A’ight, jump aboard. Everyone’s feathers in?” Stepping towards the cargo hold, Angelo checks that all of the birds and deliveries are secure, before sliding the large door shut with a finalising slam. [break][break]

One-by-one the flock made their way into cargo bay. Pip-Pip tried to join in the back as well, but Locke quickly scooped the Piplup into their arms and carried him into the cockpit, ignoring his squirms of protest as they settled him into their lap.

”Wait,” he paused mid-buckling, suddenly recalling the ambassador he’d been briefly introduced to. “He’s not actually a prince is he?”

Using the float to propel himself, Angelo smoothly hauls himself up into the cockpit, sliding easily into the worn, comfortable seat. His. [break][break]

Behind him the chirps and chatter of the Delibird flock are easy to drown out, their croons a familiar symphony as blue eyes flicker across the readings on the control panel. [break][break]

So focused on making the last and final checks before take-off, he nearly misses Locke’s question…[break][break]

“Hm? What?” Satisfied everything was in order, his gaze then snaps back to his courier companion, hand reaching for his own buckle.[break][break]

Prince pops out of the conversation and Angelo lets out a soft snort, grinning. [break][break]

“Besides being a royal pain in the ass?” His musing is punctuated by a click of the belt snapping into place. “Apparently.”[break][break]

He casually hands over a headset for Locke to put on a grin stretching, inciting mischief. “Or so he tells me but I haven't seen a fancy little crown. Have you?”

”Eh?!” Even though they’d asked the question, Locke really couldn’t ever have fully prepared for the answer. A prince. Like a royal prince. They could barely wrap their head around it.

“N-No, but still! How’d ya even manage to meet a prince anyhow?” He asked while tucking his hair out of the way for the headphones.

By now, he was too busy processing the idea that this meant he’d met an actual real prince to notice Pip-Pip slip out of his lap and into the cargo bay.

Unfortunately, Angelo was far too preoccupied to notice that the Piplup had stowed away into the cargo bay, too. His gaze is on the dozens of dials and readings, expertly flicking switches. [break][break]

Locke’s voice feeds into his ears through the headset with a satisfying crackle, stuttering surprise in their voice summoning a soft chuckle. [break][break]

“Soup Kitchen.” He responds simply with a chuckle, peering over towards Locke with a slight twinkle in his eye. “I’ll leave you to imagine which side of the canteen he was on.”
[break][break]
Within the back, Locket’s chirps go unnoticed, the source of her frustrated calls a mystery as they become drowned out by the spluttering of the engine. The seaplane roars to life, filling the interior with a rumble of comforting power.[break][break]

“Ready to get this show on the road?” He asks Locke, oblivious to what was going on backstage.

Soup kitchen…Locke couldn’t help chewing on that for a moment. Either version of events changed his perception of both Angelo and Remiel Calcifet quite a bit. He’d ought to get more of that story later, maybe in exchange for a little more honesty on his part…

”Huh? Oh yeah! Let’s go!” Locke practically vibrated in their seat as they stared out at the expanse of water ahead of them. There was some kind of ruckus in the back, but it was probably just the flock getting excited about the flight too!
