Right as something fell from the tree and smacked him in the head!

“What the—!” he exclaimed. “Dude, what the fuck?” he continued as he turned to face Matias.

“Didn’t you get hit with something that fell out of a tree earlier?”

It was just a Metapod, literally knew nothing but…

A sudden burst of rainbow-colored energy sent the Metapod flying, smashing into the tree and shaking it; since the Bug-type was literally useless, it could only Harden as the Psychic attack battered it.

“Ro, calm down!” he called to the silver beast standing rear guard for them as he threw another empty Pokéball at the Metapod to spare it even more grief.

and just as it happened to him earlier, something falls onto lars' head which makes matias laugh as a response. he's sad to see his friend in pain, of course, but not sad enough to make the situation not amusing.

the metagross flinging the metapod away is just the cherry on top.

Of course the other would know—Matias did come from Kanto, after all.

“There is no way in fucking hell I am having something burst open and have an angry, angry Bug Pokémon attack me on sight,” he added with a shudder.

Thankfully, the next thing he saw was a little… aww, cute Cherubi! But he didn’t need the Grass-type for anything.

actually, he finds the majority of kanto pokemon to be underappreciated, but that should be expected coming from someone who's built most of his team around the region he calls home.

where lars ignores the cherubi, matias approaches it with a berry only to trick it at the last second to smack it with a pokeball instead. having caught it by surprise, it disappears into the pokeball.

Was it just him or did they completely and totally not notice the Ribombee that had been following the Cherubi that Matias had since captured—

Maybe because it was so tiny it was easily missable…

"people underestimate fairy-types a lot. especially the smaller ones. it's always amusing to see my clefairy take down beasts like garchomp."

it feels nice to be talking about pokemon with lars. the two share the same passion and excitement for battling, that much is clear.

speaking of fairy-types, one rolls onto the scene, and the cottonee is immediately met with a thrown poffin that smacks into the side of its face.

"sorry! bad throw."

but it gobbles it up regardless, leaving nothing behind. matias decides to capture it.

“Well, if it works,” he added with a shrug as he bit down another peal of laughter. As for him?

“There was a reason why I nabbed a Cutiefly. Something so tiny can actually bring down a Dragon in one shot? Now I want to try that out for myself,” he whistled.

This time there was a Mareanie stumbling around, but he paid it no heed.

maybe he should go hunting for more fairy-types. but then again, he has quite a number of them — one from every line, in fact!

it's why he decides to pay no mind to the dustox that floats on by.

Besides, wasn’t his actual initial goal to have at least one of every usable Pokémon for any potential situation that would come up in the wild?
