he's here for business, she's here with him for a contrived reason parading as business. thankfully for the most part, the league gives her a loose enough leash to not have to justify every movement.

the restaurant's balcony overlooks a public battle plaza, and they had spent the better part of the evening observing and making hushed comments and critiques; mostly kind.

mid-sentence, perse interrupts fernando, placing a hand on his forearm to get his attention. she gives a slight nod to a table a short distance away from them.

"the mauville gym leader and a friend?"

it's a question but the intention is clear. she's been waiting for it all evening. double battle; go go go.

Stormy had come to have a good time, not to be coerced into a double battle involving Fernando Silph. Her last battle with him had gone badly, resulting in Apollo being severely injured - at least in her opinion.[break][break]

Maybe it hadn't been Cait's idea, but for the better half of the evening, she had been convinced this was a simple dinner at a relatively nice restaurant. She had idly watched as a couple of regular people engaged in battles to entertain the guests, her being one of the guests.[break][break]

It had been fun and a little exhilarating as she watched Pokemon engage in combat. But this wasn't the type of battle she had been forced to engage it, this was friendly and kind, a simply sparring match between people who weren't out for blood.[break][break]

So when Stormy was informed that she and Cait would be putting on their own show later on with Fernando and his friend, she was struck with anxiety. Would Fernando battle the same way in front of dozens of people? Would he amass a full-out war? It was unlikely, but the thought still had her heart racing.[break][break]

She almost wished she had left her Pokemon at home.[break][break]

"i don't necessarily love battle," she amended. "i just believe its a necessary thing to do nowadays. and 'practice makes perfect', right?"

stormy's anxiety over what was to come was positively palpable, and she tried her best to soothe away her fears. cait had very little success in managing that, but was thankful that she had somehow coaxed the fire-type expert into joining her in a battle.

'it's progress,' she thought. 'win or lose - if stormy can just manage this...'

the freckle-faced woman was firm in the belief that if stormy succeeded in making it through an entire battle she'd have a far easier time acquiring a position as a leader.

"you'll just need to bring out one pokemon," she informed. "that's all."

it was difficult not to baby the young woman, but she knew better than to try holding her hand through the process. as a gym leader, a certain level of independence was expected.

"you've got this," cait said. "it doesn't matter if you win or lose as long as you get through this."

she's lying. he knows better then to oppose her wishes but he knows. her true purpose is to test her might, a thirst for battle. he's only here on an alleged need to provide for her protection. his true concupiscence lies on a romantic night spent saturated in the hot springs. lavaridge spells the perfect locale for him to trim the world down to just the two of them.

unfortunately, life's never that easy.

fernando would be right; after abstaining from battle for sport for so long, one single shred of the adrenaline is all it took for her to crave it again.

a flash of a smile his way, and persephone leads the way to the battle plaza, past the seated pair. the gym leader she recognises due to her appointment, the second one is familiar but she can't place her face to a name. persephone wonders if she imagines the shadow of apprehension on her face.

"do you feel like entertainment or tears tonight?" persephone asks fernando when she's sure they're out of earshot on the steps leading down to their side of the arena. it's mostly a joke, but her teeth flash in a sharp grin. vicious.

amazing.

fernando feels his heart wretch, tangled in a bout of audible beating throbs. the way her zeal erupts from the beguiled twist of her lips tempt him like nothing else. history may cement her place in his heart but it is the viciousness that erodes at what little bulwarks manages to put up.

"after your lead."

this goes beyond the call of duty. fernando pays their opponents little mind, not until they're within speaking range. before him is a woman engorged on a power she's yet to know - to know fully. years of trials and tribulations have surmounted to what he is today. there is no great gift he can provide to her then to save her the burden.

this is a short cut, a new path carved out of his blood, sweat, and tears.

several pokeballs line his belt and all of them weigh in toward complimenting persephone's.

this is planned; happy valentine's queen of the amavi.

she struggled to maintain a look of calm once the distance separating them had become meager in amount. a silence permeated the air, and no verbal exchanges took place between the two opposing groups. cait merely dipped her head in a small show of respect before reaching for her belt, a tremble present within her fingers.

'i'll be the first to show my hand.'

it was a bold move; but she surmised that her actions would lend stormy the confidence needed to introduce her own companion to the mix.

"vikavolt!"

the large beetle appeared in a small flash of light and situated herself upon the field before raising her gaze to peer in the direction of the councilman and head scientist.

Necessary thing to do... For some reason, Stormy couldn't wrap her head around it. It was only necessary because there was evil in the world to combat - she didn't battle to enjoy it, really.[break][break]

Perhaps it was high time though for her to try and embrace it as something enjoyable instead of as something to be feared. [break][break]

"Win or lose, we'll be okay. Y'know, you say that, but Fernando isn't too keen on me battling."[break][break]

However, as her and Cait approach their partners in battle, Stormy catches sight of Persephone Amavi. The woman is a goddess, her white hair is stunning in the pale light. [break][break]

She seems intense, prepared to battle. Her eyes are hungry, searching for someone to hurt. Perhaps she's just excited, but Stormy sees only aggression. [break][break]

Cait is the first to release a Pokemon onto the small battlefield. Several people have gasped in either awe or in disgust at the sight of the bug-type. It clapped its pinchers eagerly while it waited for it's partner to show up.[break][break]

Stormy thumbed a couple pokeballs, considering what her options were. She wasn't a strong battler, so her instincts were telling her to let Cait take the lead and act as a support, help Vikavolt in whatever task it set out to do.[break][break]

"Blissey, protect the Vikavolt."[break][break]

At the call of her name, the plush pink Pokemon appears, blinking her eyes slowly in the dimly-lit setting. She smiles though, locking eyes with her new partner. [break][break]

Stormy glances at Fernando but says nothing - there's nothing to say to him.[break][break]
