katherine figured that memorizing all these lines would be the real challenge she’d have to face today but if kyle was going to snap pictures of each floor, then maybe she doesn’t have to worry about it.

This floor’s challenge is handled by her honedge, who’s quick to SNEAK ITS SHADOW to swipe at the submerged Relicanth. Thankfully, the fish Pokemon had NO GUARD underneath the water, making their job easier.

Melody looked over at kyle to answer him [break][break]

She was definitely going to have to watch the entire thing to keep note of everything being shared.[break][break]

She also stared at Katherine with a sudden expression of joy hoping that she'd actually help melody out with understand, but instead it was just her playing jokes on her. She frowns at her "Awww c'mon Katherine!" she pouts at her as they enter the next room and there's another riddle in it. [break][break]

A pool! How exciting! Melody wanted to dive in and swim a bit but the desire to continue the challenge impeded with her desire to swim. She had a smug smile on her face "Ya know, I faced off with rayquaza and survived to tell the tale. He was a dick." she says smugly as she's trying to wear her accomplishments like a badge of honor. She completely disregarded the fact that 2 out of the 4 other people in her team have had to save her from death for her own stupidity. Or did she just forget again? [break][break]

She released her Eiscue as the weight block of ice on his head threatened to make him lose his balance and she ordered it to use SURF. In the meantime she turned on her phone's recording app and left it going, she couldn't rely on Kyle for everything now could she?

He already had an answer to that question.

“Where I come from, the tales talk about truth and ideals. About how two brothers, supposedly, had different methods of coming to terms long ago. They eventually ended up parting ways, because they could not agree on one thing: their beliefs.”

There was so much more to this.

“It’s pretty long, however the tales go that the brothers’ Pokémon were born. One from fire, and another from lightning. A lot of Unovan legendary tales and lore deals with mostly elemental forces of nature.”

He cackled to himself because he’d already met at least one of the three Swords of Justice…

How was he to know that the second one was there, somewhere, in this very room as well?

Taking another look at the inscription, he took a picture of it before pulling out a Swampert after pondering the riddle. While he didn’t have any singular Pokémon that had Surf (how even), however he had Whirlpool, and he pointed.

“Churn it.”

The Swampert punched his hands together, before summoning up a vortex of whirling water, the Whirlpool flung into the depths of the pool.

YOU HAVE SUCCEEDED AND ARE USHERED TO THE THIRD FLOOR. Here, a man and his Torkoal await you all. Oddly enough, this room seems hotter and more humid than the rest. All around on stands, pedestals, canvases and antiquities, Fire-type Pokemon are depicted. Slugma. Blaziken. Heatran. Moltres. The man welcomes everyone with a warm voice:[break][break]

"welcome to the third floor. i am farhan, the regent of the kindlers." He pats his Torkoal's shell and ushers him toward the field. "if you've come this far, you may be tired. however, scaling mt. chimney by foot is a harrowing ordeal. one must be alert at all times— for our volcano is an unpredictable, living force. endure a YAWN from my torkoal- but do not succumb to its effects."[break][break]

There is no inscription written in this room. However, paintings and carvings of a Moltres being birthed from Mt. Chimney's molten crater can be seen.

he finds familiarity with the person greeting them, but forgets where from. he's not too invested in the ranger rank ladder to recognize every person, after all.

"at what age did you make that email?" he asks melody as he snaps a picture of the paintings before taking a candid selfie with everyone else on the background. on the screen, he notices both and doing the same. "oh, i don't have to do it? cool. you guys are on the sharing duty now."

he stashes his phone and takes out a pokemon. a sylveon comes out, and right afterwards, a torkoal gives him a huge yawn to induce drowsiness.

"misty terrain."

in the same vein as 's avatar ability, the sylveon releases a mist of warm colors that covers the floor. if observed on a different way, it kinda appears to be steam from all the heat, which seems thematic as well.

insightful but far from conclusive. fernando returns his pokemon soon after they clear the floor. upon reaching the stairs, he gives alexei a quick look back, nose pointed downward.

“but a lack of correlation doesn’t rule it out just yet. keep an open mind and you’d be surprise how many connection we miss, ivanov.”

not that he has any investment into which region the myth originates from. all in all, everything leads back to hoenn, regardless of what others would believe. that single truth reveals the basis of his theory: THE ORIGIN OF LIFE.

his faith is rewarded when they enter the third floor. murals depicting moltres, a pokemon many would tie to kanto, show it erupting from a volcanno. time may change landscapes but the topography of cinnabar doesn’t match the uncanny ridges of mount chimney.

fernando calls upon his meowstic when the YAWN echoes across their pokemon. “good call,” he praises their champion, a bit too slow to order a MISTY TERRAIN as his pokemon drift into a sudden DROWSINESS.

cotton candy fumes keep it awake despite itself.

"I'm just recording the audio, you might still wanna take pictures though. I wanna make a social media post for it. I dub thee my photographer for this adventure." she said pretending to knight by acting like a queen and placing a hand on each of his shoulder's like a sword. [break][break]

"What beliefs were those ?" she asked curiously as Melody did love a good story.

Melody sent out one of her starter Pokémon, her Whimsurr who had become an Exploud. It took the yawn head on, the misty terrain just barely keeping Exploud awake. Melody decided to just try and bug Kyle though with a devilish grin on her face and signaled to her Pokémon to cause an UPROAR. The Exploud then took in a deep breath of air and just started to blast the entire room with sound.

A smile is all Katherine can offer in response to Melody's pouting face, seemingly content with the outcome. "Like I said.. If you know, you know."

After they reach the third floor, she merely waits to hear the instruction, not quite recognizing the familiar face as well as did. Instead, her eyes are drawn to the paintings, specifically Moltres'. What else should they expect to see here?

Trent, her shiny Whimsicott, escapes from a capsule to endure the Yawn whilst the pink fog settles around their quartet.

Turning to the Champion, he replied, “Always have redundant backups of your stuff, or some shit like that—so yeah, in case something happens to my collection of images, we still have yours to send out,” before fanning himself.

Geez, why in the fresh hell was this room so hot? So many Fire-types depicted all over the place… and then there were two in particular he lasered on.

As he turned to snap pictures of the murals, his attention was then drawn to Melody’s inquiry. Well, at least someone wanted to know more about the legendary tales from back home.

“Okay, so the thing is, one of the Pokémon followed the brother who valued truth. The other Pokémon went with the brother who valued ideals. It was those two beliefs that ultimately drove them apart. Although, which Pokémon was which, I’d have to recount because they easily get mixed up with each retelling.”

The obstacle was presented, and while he was snapping pictures of the murals, a little troublemaker with a crown perched on his head decided to wander about, getting hit by the Yawn, but bless the Misty Terrain from the Champion, didn’t fall prey to the trap.

“…William, I fucking swear if you knock something over,” he said without looking, hearing the jingling of the tiny little crown as they continued onto the next floor.



(Misty Terrain in effect! Wooloo is hit by Yawn but does not fall asleep.)

YOU ASCEND TO THE NEXT FLOOR. There, a blond man strolls in with his serving cart. A Slurpuff dressed in similar chef's attire hops along too, its tongue lazily tipped over its bottom lip.[break][break]

"you made it this far? not like it's a big accomplishment. feel free to pick from the cart. trade out an item for another or relinquish them entirely. be my guest." He rubs his stiff shoulder, the hand dangling from that painful joint licked by his Pokémon.[break][break]

Should you have encountered him before, he feigns ignorance. He does not answer questions. However, he does cast one putrid glare at before skirting his eyes away. Simply, he waits for you all to finish before directing you to the next floor. However, there is no rush. You may chat amongst yourselves as you and your Pokémon take rest.[break][break]

Like before, around the room, an inscription is written:[break]

A NEW MECHANIC FOR THIS EVENT


IN THIS ITERATION of the "tower challenge" style of events, held items have made an appearance. Your character can only HOLD 1 HELD ITEM AT A TIME. They may utilize the held item at any time on any of their Pokemon.[break][break]

Occasionally, there will be opportunities to switch the held item with another in between rounds. You do not need to select a held item nor use one.

She looked between and the stranger who was seemingly part of the staff here, even she took note of that quick animosity on display. She goes over to fern and tries to whisper in his ear. "What happen with you and that guy?" she said using her thumb to point at him as he reveals a new selection of items to take. [break][break]

She moves over to the display of new items, the half eaten rawst berry in her hand being tossed into the garbage as she was done with it. She took the sash into her hands and tied it around her head. "Wooo! We're breezing through this guys! Let's keep it up!" she says turning around and pumping her fist in the air to keep her team's spirits up.

Thankfully, their next stop doesn’t have an obstacle, however the person who greets them gives one of their number the filthiest glare any human could give another, which makes Alexei turn to the other—

“What the hell happened for that guy to look at you like that?” he asked Fernando idly. Would dead men tell no tales? Who knew?

Checking the items on the table, he had a feeling between two certain ones, however…

Hoping that this wasn’t going to bite him in the ass, he then swapped out the heavy boots (the ones he’d been lugging around for so long) for the protective pads.

Because again, there were some moves that could really do a number on… pretty much more than half his armada of Pokémon companions.

just as he thought he finally relieved himself from the picture taking duties, he finds out neither gym leaders carry on with the documentation. he supposed there won't be any redundant backups in case something happens to his collection of images this time. taking out his phone reluctantly, kyle takes a photo of the words inscribed.

the items being offered come to his peripheral just as the picture was snapped.

he will miss the balloon, but the other items seemed to open up more possibilities. two of them was made redundant with abilities, while the other was with a whole typing itself.

kyle takes the ring target, trading it in for the air balloon. he supposed there was the scrappy ability, but that does not account for the several other types with immunities to other moves.

the champion turns to the councilman and takes the balloon and offers it to him first since he technically doesn't have an item yet. "do you want a balloon?" he asks silph.

THE LEAGUE'S FINEST



FERNANDO DOESN’T MEAN to be curt when he answers katherine’s question with his one-worded, “indeed.” it’s a lack of conversational substance that steels his armor of apathy. it’s brushed off his shoulder with every step they take.



on the next floor, fernando is as equally surprised by the disdain of their attendant. the connection the incident goes amiss—a collaboration that’s lost through months of reprieve from their ‘multiple’ encounters. all he remembers is the man’s face from their time as chefs.

so he chalks it up to the usual; jealousy, spite, and any other slew of nonsensical reasons for people to hate the region’s icon.

“i think i’ll just OBSERVE for now,” is his answer to kyle, passing on the balloon.

“but it looks like we’re ALTERNATING items,” he pauses. “that’ll HELP since we don’t know what’s on the HORIZON.”

fernando stands, tall and erect, in front of the cart, attempting to make eye contact with the guide, shit eating grin and all. “i suppose this will suffice. thanks.”

SHED SHELL in hand, he regroup as they venture to the next floor.

“i’m not very popular, apparently,” is the only real answer he has for melody and alexei.
