Locke could understand how Matias could kill Chu-e Choi. The two men were on opposite sides of a conflict bigger than either of them individually, and he only did what soldiers are made to do.

But to not regret that it happened-to callously say he wished for another chance to end someone's life…

Locke searched the other man's face for dishonesty, breathing out the tension that'd been coiling in his chest when he found none.

Right.

He was panicking over nothing.

Matias was having the normal reaction to a little girl in the custody of a known member of a terrorist organization. He was the odd one out for projecting his own familial hang-ups onto the two of them.

But a prickle of doubt remained.

The open concern they'd seen under the church. The tearful reunion they'd witnessed in that space between reality and not. And the way Eris Halla talked about Chu-e Choi…grieved for him…

"…I think you're right that they never should've met in first place, but I'm not sure that 'should'ves' matter at this point. I never talked to him, so I can't really give an opinion on the guy, but Eris cared about him a lot and-" They hesitated, trying not to make it sound like an accusation. "And him dying's only done more harm than good."

matias doesn't need to spell it out for locke. the removal of an underboss in a terrorist organization far outweighs the loss and pain Eris Halla may be feeling. it's why he feels no shame in his actions. he did what he did for the sake of the region.[break][break]
