"...Disappointing indeed," Elisabeth mused, stepping back from the counter as her Misdreavus mimicked her thoughtful expression before dissolving into cackling laughter. "If the distortions cease, then it feels likely to say that the flowers will likewise cease blooming and reproducing, then. And we'll lose access to whatever energy they offer us, given it fades when they do. It's all ephemeral."

So what was the alternative option, then? Her brow furrowed, deep with concentration as her emerald eyes scanned the potted plants along the walls.

"I think I'll hazard this much of a guess: whatever is causing the distortions is causing the crystablooms, either intentionally or unintentionally. So their purpose must be tied to that one."

The botanist wandered through the laboratory, hands clasped behind her as she paced in silent thought. Then she swiveled on her heel to face Lulu Flint.

"Do you think it's possible to create an artificial distortion? Using Mega Stones or otherwise. That is outside my realm of expertise, admittedly, but if we did..."

Then crystablooms, hypothetically, could continue to grow. And be studied. And, ultimately, utilized.

lulu’s eyes followed the florist as she paced away a few steps. she considered, how much faith should she really put in this woman? in these days, elisabeth had, of course, yet to be promoted to admin. her knowledgeability had been sought out on a single recommendation. [break][break]

ultimately, she did not have time to focus on every project herself, and a seldom few scientists had possessed the confidence thus far to step up and offer ideas that she’d deemed plausible enough to pursue.[break][break]

then elisabeth turned and presented an idea which impressed her beyond all others. enough to shift. she didn’t continue where she trailed off, catching the implication clearly—among other flooding questions she now craved answers to.[break][break]

”we will certainly investigate that possibility,” she decided. [break][break]

after a pause, regarding the woman with more curiosity, she finished, ”meanwhile, your research is very much appreciated. is there anything else, before i leave you to your work?”

The initial disappointment in Lulu Flint's words stung, slightly. Though the fault for it was not Elisabeth's own.

Vanity though it may be, Elisabeth took great pride in her ability to perform well at all that she attempted professionally. It exhausted her in some ways, to give so much undivided attention to her civilian and her Rocket responsibilities alike.

Her study of the crystablooms had been a rare marriage of her two ambitions, and that coupled with an inherent desire to please had created a baseless hope to impress this woman that had been spoken of so highly by Cillian Quinn and others in the Rocket organisation.

So when Lulu's expression shifted, and her approval was voiced, Elisabeth's shoulders released a tension she hadn't realized she'd been holding.

"That's excellent to hear," the blonde said, the brightness of her enthusiasm a shift from her usual mild-mannered tone. "Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help forward those developments." The follow-up question surprised her, and in that moment she wished she had something more to offer, some other insight to prove herself to Rocket's head scientist.

Instead, she shook her head and said, "Nothing concrete, at present. I will let you know if anything worth your attention comes up."

Ambitions of exploring the Tree of Life, doomed though she did not yet realize it, briefly drifted through her mind unvoiced.

“wonderful. then i’ll offer one more suggestion: with our recent developments in technology, we’ve been able to better predict where the spacetime distortions will open up. perhaps it may be worthwhile to study the plant-life within them.”[break][break]

she paused, as though considering something further. her thoughts lingered on study of more than just their own world. space. other dimensions. eventually, if things all panned out, she would need a skilled botanist.[break][break]

for now, she decided against bringing it up. things were still heavily in the works, and elisabeth had impressed her to an extent—but could she do it again?[break][break]

”i will leave you to it. thank you for your time, miss fioreli.”[break][break]

she turned to leave, taking a few steps before pausing to add over her shoulder, ”actually, one more thing: if you ever make it out to the tree, should you discover anything worth your research, you may consider these facilities at your disposal.”[break][break]

she lingered another moment, before her heels were clicking away with deliberate strides to her next appointment.
