Ruby Garcia
Tough as Corundum
POSTED ON Jul 20, 2022 22:16:20 GMT
Ruby Garcia Growing up in Orre, a region plagued by crime syndicates, is bound to make a girl as rough as the desert itself. Moving to Hoenn was supposed to be a fresh start for her and her family, but then interdimensional invaders came along and ruined everything. With her family fractured and her future bleak, Ruby decided that the League was worthless and turned to Team Rocket.
(See her app for a more detailed background.)
Plot Hooks
- The Future (updated): Recent events have shaken Ruby's faith in Team Rocket. She knew that it was a criminal organization from the get-go, but between Walsh's insane plan for the meteoroid and their alliance with the Megalopolans, whom Ruby despises for taking her father, she's beginning to doubt her decision to join them. Yet she also doesn't think there's any redemption for her, especially after she killed a vigilante in an assassination mission. Will Ruby continue down this dark path, or is there hope for her, after all?
- Fellow Rockets: Ruby won't necessarily trust someone just because they're on the same team, but there are plenty of opportunities to be assigned together for missions. Ruby's mission tracker is here, if you're interested in doing one with her. I'm also looking for the person/people who got her into Rocket and someone who previously forged some documents for her; they can even be the same person, if you'd like.
- Shadows of the Past: Ruby never got properly involved in organized crime in Orre, but her parents sure did. Plus, Ruby spent some time with street gangs as a teen before moving to Hoenn. If you want to plot around that, let me know! Alternatively, perhaps you knew her (or at least of her) when she was training to breed and train service/therapy Pokémon.
- Goody-Two-Shoes: Want some more antagonistic roleplay? Or just a Rocket to try to stop for those sweet, sweet mission rewards? I'm down! Ruby's pretty easy to make enemies with thanks to her short temper and intolerance for bullshit.
Current Relationships
Family Ruby cares about what little remains of her family more than anything. She would do anything to protect it. Anything.
opal garcia: Beloved little sister
Ruby has considered herself Opal's protector since they were kids. With their father dead and their mother off doing Arceus knows what, she's become Opal's sole caretaker. She thinks the world of her little sister and would do anything to give her a good life. She refuses to let Opal near anything Team Rocket; her little sister is too damn good for them.
Acquaintances Generally, these will be people Ruby has worked with but hasn't otherwise interacted with much. That's usually how she prefers it.
onyx straub: A strange situation
Ruby still doesn't know Onyx all that well, but she respects his no-nonsense attitude, quietness, and efficiency. However, given that they seem to be dealing with a serial killer, they may have to work closely together in the near future. ana fell: A concept
Ruby has yet to formally meet Cygne, but she knows that she's Isaac's girlfriend. Ruby may have dunked on her taste in motorcycles. priam conrad: Agreement
Another Rocket that Ruby hasn't actually talked to, but she agreed with his cry of "fuck the League way" during the summit. Tempest Quinn: Knows in passing
Ruby only knows Tempest from what he said during the Rocket summit. He was totally right, though. Eris Halla: Concern
Ruby doesn't like that such a young girl is part of Rocket. She also doesn't like how she was treated during the summit. Though she has yet to speak to her, Ruby worries about Eris. Raphael Pryde: Competent
He led the expeditions to the Mechanical Kingdom ( 1, 2), but Ruby doesn't have much of an opinion on him except that he seems competent enough to be the head scientist. Belial Stone: Expedition comrade
Belial proved himself a strong comrade with a surprisingly human side during their expeditions to the Mechanical Kingdom ( 1, 2). Asriel Pryde: Already on her nerves
During their expeditions to the Mechanical Kingdom ( 1, 2), Asriel treated Ruby like his lesser. It's safe to say she wasn't a huge fan of that. Sylvia Cousteau: Too encouraging
Ruby only knows Sylvia in passing, but the fact that she encouraged Xenon Antheil's BS is already a mark against her. Shred: Knows in passing
All Ruby knows about Shred is that he muttered that he might be fucked during the S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Trinity Trials. Not exactly the most confident first impression. Ashley Shepard: Knows in passing
Amor Rose: Known by name
Hitoshi Inoue: Yapping dog
During the S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Trinity Trials, Hitoshi was confident that even Legendaries could be killed. Ruby disagreed, but she didn't get a response.
Friends Associates
Ruby swore to herself that she wouldn't get attached to other people after her life fell apart. Being rude, cagey, and sometimes violent generally helps keep others away. But sometimes, people get through to her. Maybe they're just that stubborn. Maybe Ruby sees something special in them. Or maybe they've just proven themselves so reliable that Ruby is willing to trust them, but in a life where one wrong step spells doom, she'd rather keep those kinds of people scarce.
Isaac Merlo: Trusted clown
Ruby heard rumors about Isaac's dramatics and general goofiness before the two worked together to investigate a supposed haunting on the Rocket sub. Afterwards, he came to her for a surprisingly vulnerable reason, building unexpected trust between the two. He's also the only person in Rocket so far to meet Ruby's sister. Ruby may still call him a clown, but anyone her sister likes is good in her books. Besides, he's surprisingly reliable, though Ruby's loath to admit that out loud.
More Than Friends Ruby isn't much for traditional romance. She's down for some casual flings, but that's the extent of it. It would take someone extraordinarily special for this to change.
Aurelie Lefevre: Partner in crime and casual fling
Ruby and Aurelie met by chance in the desert, where both were hunting for snakes to skin for cash. Ruby was quickly impressed by Aurelie's determination to get the job done, even when she stumbled, and by the cool knives she had with her. Later, they plotted to rob a foundry warehouse for steel so Aurelie could make Ruby some knives of her own. Despite her seeming newness to crime, Aurelie came up with the plan and thought outside of the box to get them out of some sticky situations. The two shared a bed to celebrate a job well done; for now, it's just a casual fling.
Respect These are people that Ruby doesn't consider friends associates but she otherwise respects. She likely won't admit that out loud, though.
THEO BECKETT: Respected underboss
Ruby has not properly met Theo, but his words during the Rocket summit earned her respect. Elisabeth Fiorelli: Vague respect
Elisabeth may be too posh for Ruby's usual tastes, but at least she understands Rocket's place in the region as the bad guys.
Enemies Being in Rocket is bound to make you some enemies, and Ruby's used to that. It's a Houndoom-eat-Houndoom world out there, after all. Whether it's a League do-gooder trying to stop her or even a fellow Rocket getting in her way, Ruby usually makes it pretty obvious when someone's on her shit list.
Noah Camus: Goody-two-shoes
Ruby encountered Noah while she was on a mission to steal an egg from Lavaridge. The two fought but were forced to team up momentarily to stop Noah's rampaging Tyranitar. Ruby thinks he's just an annoying Ranger trying to act like a saint, but she is proud of her victory over him. Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki: Memorable battle
Tsubaki ambushed Ruby in Granite Cave during Postdormitum. Tsubaki fought dirty and accused Ruby of all kinds of heinous crimes despite Ruby not even knowing her, but Ruby emerged victorious when Tsubaki fell into a trench. sergei dachev: Failed guard duty
The sneaky Sergei managed to slip past Ruby when she was on guard duty during Postdormitum. Kyrenai Black: Knife to the throat
Ruby attempted to ambush Kyrenai during Postdormitum, but the Leaguer managed to turn the tables and have Ruby at knifepoint. Even if she is kind of sexy, she's still an enemy. Xenon Antheil: Shut the hell up
Ruby cannot stand Xenon's better-than-you attitude and her "ultramodern" bullshit. She's grateful she wasn't paired with her during the S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Trinity Trials.
Uncertain People that Ruby has mixed feelings on or isn't sure what to think about.
bryan delarosa: Once respected
When Ruby first met Rocket Beast Delarosa on a mission to stop cultists from doing their cultist thing in Sootopolis, she admired him for his effective brutality and wanted to be more like him. However, after he indirectly threatened a literal child during the Rocket summit, she started questioning whether she really wants to be like him. mint frost: Some respect, some annoyance
Ruby and Mint's first mission together was driving Groudon Cultists from Mt. Chimney. He initially gave off the impression of a ditzy social media model, and while he still does have some of those vibes, she respects how unexpectedly brutal and helpful he can be. She also feels she owes him some favors for covering for her during the Meteno operation. However, she hasn't forgotten her anger toward him for questioning the loyalty of a literal child during the Rocket summit. Johanna Joy: Traitor, and yet...
Ruby worked with Johanna to recruit some troublemakers to Team Rocket. Though Ruby thought Johanna was a weakling at first, she showed surprising courage and resolve. Ruby saw potential in her, but now that Johanna's hopped over to the League's side, Ruby has... conflicting feelings. Her visit to Johanna's theme park and their time together in the dream Galar have only further complicated things. kepler brueshaber: Comrade or the one to blame?
Though their initial meeting at the Rocket summit had Ruby snapping at him, she realized it was a mistake and actually agreed with him. He then hired her to help clear out some Ghost-types in an abandoned lab, then to assist him with the meteoroid mining. He saw her at a vulnerable moment when Cerberus seemingly died. She doesn't know whether to blame him for dragging her along or Walsh for planning the whole insane operation. Cillian Quinn: Friend or foe?
Ejecting Eris from the meeting and saying the Beasts' talents wouldn't be "wasted" on her didn't sit right with Ruby at first, but maybe he was actually trying to protect her? Ruby isn't sure. Zev Harcourt: The road to darkness
Zev requested Ruby's assistance with an assassination mission. Though she knew full well what she was getting into, she wasn't prepared for the lingering feelings that came after killing someone for the first time. She knows she can't blame Zev for what she chose to do, but it was his mission, after all...
Inactive/Archived Characters Here for archival purposes.
Xiura Balfaltin: Favor owed
Ruby hasn't really talked to Xiura, but she did hide out in her boba cafe during her heist with Aurelie, so she feels like she owes the girl a favor. Dione Sutoringu: Why are there kids here?
Ruby agrees 100% that there are too many kids in Rocket's ranks. In turn, Dione agreed that they shouldn't trust the League if even kids don't. Killian Decker: Grateful
Decker took Eris's hand as he escorted her out of the Rocket summit. Ruby's glad that Eris had someone looking out for her. @elio: Immediate hatredThe moment Elio called a child a "dumbass" while sounding like a pompous prick, Ruby hated his guts. She hopes she never has to work with him. Ceri Glynn: Weirdo
On the one hand, Ruby liked her plan for caving in Granite Cave. On the other hand, who the hell looks at a Megalopolan and thinks that's "cool"? Martín del Mar: Seriously?
Ruby's not very happy about how he told off a child during the Rocket summit. Even if he was probably right.
