The sun had already set, but Slateport City's beachfront was awash with light from the food stalls, souvenir shops, games, and other endless sights of the Splashfest. Zev himself had gotten out of the dunk tank minutes ago, taken down by none other than Neffatari Nzingha. They'd even exchanged grins as she'd passed him to claim the seat. Shivering despite the surprisingly warm night, Zev grabbed one of the free towels emblazoned with the logo of The Ritual, the bar that was sponsoring that specific event, and started drying himself off.

Splash!

Zev looked up in time to see Nenet hauling herself over the side of the dunk tank. Someone must have toppled her as quickly as she'd taken him down. He laughed, fully embodying his persona after having to mask all day, and grabbed a second towel.

"Here," he said, holding it out to Nenet to take as she approached. His eyes cruised over her figure with obvious interest, his grin widening at the sight of her dripping with water, bare except for the swimsuit she wore.

"How does it feel to be dethroned so easily?" he teased, raising his gaze to meet hers again.

A delighted smile curls over Nenet's lips as she is greeted with the sight of Zev holding out a towel for her; she makes a brief detour, grabbing up her clutch left with the attendant to ensure its contents remained dry. Her eyebrow arches when she catches his eyes visibly sweeping over her figure, though the show is soon over when she takes the offered towel and wraps it comfortably around her shoulders.

"I could ask you the same," she purrs out, her smoky voice warm with interest; tipping up onto her toes for a bare moment, she peck Zev's cheek and settles back onto her heels. Standing close, her hip nearly touching his own, Nenet tilts her head faintly to the side as she then inquires, "Is your illustrious presence still needed here for appearance or are you free now?"

Playfully, she tacks on, "If you're still needed I can just take Luna and enjoy the rest of my evening with her."

The quick kiss and Nenet's close proximity delighted Zev, though he felt no urge to reciprocate affection in front of so many people. However, if they put some distance between themselves and the crowds, the night could provide a measure of privacy.

"I'm free now, finally," he confirmed, slinging his own towel over one shoulder. It could be useful later, if they wanted to sit somewhere sandy. Then he retrieved the items he'd taken off him before climbing onto the dunk tank seat: his phone, keys, wallet, a couple of Pokéballs. These he slid into the pockets of his swim trunks.

"Have you eaten already?" Zev asked Nenet as he half-turned toward the boardwalk, which would lead them on a pleasant stroll past food stalls and other vendors. Beyond those, the beach stretched into the darkness until it met ocean waters. "We could grab a snack or maybe dessert and find someplace to watch the fireworks. I hear it'll be soon."

The back of his hand brushed against the back of hers, subtle yet suggestive.

Nenet observes Zev's reaction to her kiss with a surprisingly critical eye - whatever it is she must see, she seems to approve of it, the distance now between them of no consequence as she waits for him to collect his things.

"I ate before I came, I wasn't sure if I would be going into work tonight or not," Nenet answers. Her expression turns thoughtful as she paces alongside Zev, the two soon in the midst of the food stalls where choices abound; her gaze brightens as she spies a nearby ice cream stand, her hand brushing lightly against Zev's before gently tugging on his wrist and releasing him.

"Come on," she urges coyly. "I always have time for ice cream."

Moving with purpose, she is soon ordering a cup of lemon-flavoured ice cream topped with tiny white marshmallows. With a look over to Zev, she asks, "What do you want?" Her clutch is already open, bills produced from its depths to pay.

Ice cream sounded like an excellent idea considering how hot it was at the beach, even at night. Zev drew up beside Nenet and scanned the available options. "I'll get the raspberry ice cream with dark chocolate chips," he replied, pointing.

After she paid and he thanked her, they resumed their walk down the boardwalk. Zev kept his eye out for an ideal spot to sit and watch the fireworks, preferably away from the crowds that were congregating closer to the shoreline. Finally, he spotted a bench far enough away from a streetlamp that its light wouldn't distract from the fireworks display, but close enough that they could still see each other and what they were eating.

"This way," Zev told Nenet as he headed for the bench. When he sat, he left her ample room to choose how closely she wanted to sit next to him.

He had to admit, the ice cream was delicious. He wasn't normally a fan of sweets, but dark chocolate wasn't bad, and it went well with raspberries. And the chilliness of the treat felt refreshing that night.

Scooping a mouthful of ice cream with his spoon, Zev turned to Nenet, extending the utensil toward her as an offering. "Want a taste?" he asked, his lips curling into a sly grin, his blue eyes twinkling with amusement in the semi-darkness.

A warm smile is spared for Zev as he thanks Nenet for the ice cream; as they walk she dips her spoon into the dessert, her tongue swirling over the back of the spoon to catch the ice cream stuck there. Allowing her head to cock in Zev's direction at his instruction, she follows leisurely.

Observing Zev on the bench for a bare moment, Nenet is soon seated at his side - close enough that their body warmth is shared, though not pressed to his side. She then appears delighted at the offering, her low voice purring out a quiet, "Sure." As she speaks she leans forwards and lifts her hand to place over Zev's to steady the utensil before taking a bite of the raspberry ice cream. Laughing softly, her hand slipping from his and lifting to her mouth to hide her expression, she murmurs with mirth, "Oh, that's almost too bitter."

"Here," she prompts in turn, a spoonful of the lemon ice cream with a few pieces of marshmallow offered to her companion. "Try this." Her eyes fall half-lid as she observes Zev, the woman muses that his yet-damp hair gives the man a rather rakish look that she can appreciate.

"You know," she murmurs conspiratorially, "I was promised Luna would be here." Her golden eyes glint with mischief, a spark reflected all the more when a sudden pop in the air followed by a warm glow of green signals the fireworks have finally started.

A smile broke across Zev's face at Nenet's reaction to the raspberry and bitter chocolate flavor. "I'm not a fan of sweet things," he admitted.

When she offered her own ice cream for him to taste, he leaned in, taking the whole spoonful into his mouth as she held the utensil. The tartness of the lemon touched his tongue instantly, making his brow furrow and his face pinch together. The sugary marshmallows did absolutely nothing to offset the sourness, at least for him. "Wow," he said with a laugh after swallowing it all. "That's definitely an acquired taste."

They finished their desserts as the fireworks show started, placing the empty cups and used spoons aside for the moment. Zev chuckled at Nenet's obvious fondness for Luna and casually slung an arm across the back of the bench, behind the woman's shoulders. But he made no move to draw her closer to him or to close the space between their sides.

"I left Luna at home today," he said between the explosions that reverberated around them. "If you want to come over, though, I'm sure she'll be happy to see you."

A laugh bubbles up from Nenet's throat at Zev's reaction, the woman notably not warning him away from the impending sharp flavour magnified by the marshmallows sweetness. She hums delightedly in response to this observation, a pointedly large spoonful of the dessert scooped up and settled into her mouth.

As the fireworks show starts in earnest, she leans back comfortably against the bench, her shoulders brushing against Zev's arm. Blues, reds, and blinding white shimmers across the sky in equal measure; the display pops and crackles, forming shapes of pokemon in between brilliant bursts of light.

Her bright eyes upon the fireworks above, Nenet tips her head in Zev's direction as he discloses where his beloved Lycanroc is. She allows her eyebrow to arch, something both amused and playful colouring her expression at his invitation.

"Do you think so," she questions languidly after a particularly resonant boom. Then, after a brief pause, "I would hate to disappoint her." Nenet's gaze casts askance, catching on Zev as she smiles coyly.

The contact of Nenet's shoulders against his arm was slight; normally, it held little meaning. But because of their recent rendezvous, the warmth and weight of her touch drew Zev's attention. He instinctively shifted his hand closer to her shoulder nearest to it, his thumb casually rubbing her skin in a gentle caress.

"I'm sure you have to get back to Mossdeep and calculate the distance between galaxies or something," he said with a chuckle. "But stopping by for a few minute wouldn't hurt, right?"

The fireworks boomed overhead, a panoply of color shimmering against the night sky. Zev couldn't care less about watching them. He was focused entirely on Nenet instead, on her laughing eyes and flirtatious smile.

Smirking, he drew closer to her, dipping his head to speak into her ear over the thunder of the fireworks. "I'll make it worth your while."

Nenet does not glance to the caress pressed to her shoulder, her eye contact remaining on Zev's face, though she does lean into the touch subtly. Her hand moves, slipping up her forearm to lightly caress the knuckles of Zev's hand as she observes him, her touch feather-light and scalding like a brand.

She laughs once more, amusement dripping off every word when she asks, "Is that what you think I do?" Nenet does not wait for him to answer, her head ducking beside his to whisper hotly in his ear, "You had better."

"You have half an hour," the woman informs him, her lips softly brushing against his earlobe as she speaks. "And that includes the shower I'll need to take."

With that spoken she leans back, her eyebrow arching in challenge.
