Beating the Storm
POSTED ON Aug 11, 2022 3:28:01 GMT
There was only one more day until Josh's mini-vacation; he had booked the following Monday and Tuesday off with the Rangers. He would be able to spend much of the weekend at Mauville City, mostly at their Round One location in the mall, but he also had fourth row tickets for a Platinum Class race featuring some of the most well-known pros he could only dream of racing alongside. He was heading toward a shopping trip at Lilycove City when he received an urgent text from a Senior Ranger.
Hi Rookie Ranger Devlin. Sorry to bother you, but we received an emergency call from a family of four stranded on Mount Pyre: a husband, wife, and two children, and there's really nasty weather on the way. They need to be evacuated to Lilycove City as soon as possible, preferably before this storm hits, and you're the closest Ranger to them we have on duty. They're on the south dock of Mount Pyre's main island, about 20 miles south-southwest of your position. Good luck! We're all counting on you.
This was not his plan, but he wasn't going to turn down the call of duty. One, it would make him look bad as a Ranger, and two, there was life-threatening weather on the way. "Come on, Ares, let's turn around," he said as he tugged sharply on his Charizard's reins. The fire-type snorted embers, a grumble coming from his throat as he obeyed the command, pulling a wide 180 and flying back out over the sea.
Josh peered out to the west, and the PIREP (Pilot Report) he received from the Rangers was absolutely right. While conditions were calm now, those were some extremely dark clouds. "Can we go faster, Ares? We gotta beat this storm!" With a roar, the Charizard's tail flame grew brighter and bigger, the ambient sizzling grew louder as the two accelerated. Charizard were quick, but they were not known for their turning capabilities.
With their swift flying, Josh was able to land his Charizard at Mount Pyre's south dock, but the wind was rapidly picking up. They needed to get into the air quickly! "Rookie Ranger Devlin," Josh briefly introduced himself to the family of four. The two adults looked like they were in their late thirties, and their two children were at least old enough to legally own Pokémon. "My partner is on the way. Once he's here, we'll have enough Pokémon to airlift you out of here before this weather hits." He released both of his other flying Pokémon: Resheph, his Dragonair, and Bladestorm, his Skarmory. "Each of you hop on one of them so we can get you out of here. We need to get out of--" Josh heard a loud crash of thunder. Normally the sound is one he enjoyed listening to, but in the context of this sudden mission, it was far from ideal.
