Rowan and himself found themselves a rental and an old pair of fishing rods, for some good old fashioned sport. The former seems more enamored with the see-through hull of the rowboat beneath them, which reveals fish swimming just underneath the surface. Any further out and he'd feel uneasy about the waves, so Adrian sets the paddles down and reaches for a spare rod.[break][break]

Fixatedly he ties a loop around a small weight and bobble, skewering a piece of bait to the hook that's so carefully secured with nylon with a practiced knot, careful not to hook himself. He'd done that enough for one lifetime.[break][break]

"Do you go fishing on your own, ever?"[break][break]

Adrian flicks his wrist and sends the weighted bait into the distance, the whirring of his reel as the line goes flying into the distance a rush of nostalgia. He'd met Furor just like this, and he used to go fishing with his uncle.[break][break]

[attr="class","adrianwtw"]Adrian nudges them back softly with a sudden smile, minding not to lose track of his line. He couldn't blame Rowan for preferring something a little more intimate to dangling bait at the end of a hook, but it served its purpose well.[break][break]

"A Lanturn and a Magikarp so far." There would be plenty more to come, but for now they could simply enjoy the cool sea breeze and drift away from the shore, just as their worries drifted out of mind for a time. His line jerked, a deliberate twitch that could've meant a nibble.[break][break]

He slowly begins reeling the line in...[break][break]

Again a sudden tug, followed by drift. Yanking the line suddenly in the hopes the hook would set, he begins reeling in as the other end of the line begins to fight him...[break][break]

"It's a good think I didn't bring Mistral, he would be whining about being bored the entire time." The Prinplup had been more of a pain than usual recently, leading Rowan to believe that perhaps the Pokémon was at the peak of their puberty and would soon evolve. Being a parent was hard. "Woah, that's a huge Mantine," he'd regard jealously, wishing he had something like that for the surfing competition. It would've made winning a breeze, or so he liked to think, displacing the blame from his own technical skills.[break][break]

"Maybe you'll outdo me yet," he said while doubling down on his efforts, suddenly very competitive about their little fishing trip.[break][break]

Blood rushes to his cheeks the same as the day they met over drinks. He's fumbling with his rod, unable to comfortably set it aside, much like his thoughts. This was definitely cheating, but it wasn't all bad though...[break][break]

Something nibbles at his rod, causing the line to tremble and the length of the carbon fiber to twitch. He could almost be forgiven for being so oblivious to it, despite it fighting against his grip, but eventually his senses won out the view and he resumed the increasingly arduous task of keeping an eye on the line.[break][break]

"I should put you on the end of my line, see what bites." He wouldn't be able to resist the temptation.[break][break]

Adrian rolls his tongue against his cheek while stealing glances, trying not to be distracted by such a petty trick, but falling into it helplessly. At a key moment he tears his eyes away from his line, following Rowan's movements with dilated eyes when his line gets a sharp tug before they strip the bait from his hook.[break][break]

Dammit.[break][break]

Reeling up his hook, Adrian sets his bait again, casting it far off into the distance and waiting for on one of the plenty of fish in the sea to come take a nibble.[break][break]

Adrian was still undecided ever since they were told they could only keep one catch, but he was leaning towards a Gyarados or a Barraskewda, maybe something for Rowan if not himself. Something to compensate for the lack of Clamperl he'd found for them while diving.[break][break]

He returned a sly smile, his eyes flitting from theirs, inspecting the boat's hull for signs of fish hiding in their shadow. He certainly wasn't casting wry looks at their attempt at a distraction, or taking advantage of it even.[break][break]

That's when his line nearly yanked away his rod.[break][break]

Grasping at the rod after nearly fumbling it, Adrian pulls back after stopping the mad spinning of the reel, turning the handle backwards to bring the line back. He gives sharp tugs, jerking it to the left or the right as the fish seems to deviate, until eventually he brings it on board.[break][break]
