AS THEY MAKE THEIR EGRESS TOWARDS THE BREAKROOM, the womens' intuition seems to pay off. When they enter the room, it's clear the museum's intercom has been activated somehow, but the music is disembodied; incorporeal. They would not be able to halt the striking chords, but they were not without recourse...[break][break]

A known mischief-maker, knows all too well that a surge of electrical power could short the circuit the intercom runs on, thereby disabling the sound before it can lull them with its melody. This would just have to be enough...[break][break]

Entering the room alongside them, 's search takes them through the room as well, but with varied results. While she manages to completely overlook the intercom, she discovers a MUSIC BOX resting atop a desk as a paperweight...[break][break]

If she were to wind it back and let it play, she would hear that same disembodied melody. Even as she touched it, the room seemed that much less welcoming for it...[break][break]

The investigation's efficacy is diminished as the others prod around the apparition's haunt, drawing its focus away from and . Between the two of them, Locke is able to reasonably conclude that Unown writing is not present, while Thomas cannot settle; perhaps he would try again elsewhere ...?[break][break]

Distantly he heard ’s wondering about the source and nature of the eerie tune, but Thomas paid it no mind. As much as it made his blood run cold, a song was a song was a song. Some simply evoked feelings more strongly than others.

Would he come to regret this? Most likely. But there was little in his life, he’d learned, that he had not come to regret.

Likewise he didn’t slow when the young man called after him to not split the party, but was, instead, already reaching the destination and beginning to follow the spectre’s leads, opening cabinets, checking for loose fixtures or fittings, peeking under rugs. Anything that may be deceptively hiding something else.

Perhaps this restless trenchancy is his punishment for not feeling fear properly. But he did not suffer through years of the finest Galarian education to lose his cool in the face of a scary song and a handful of panicked shades. Outwardly, at least, he exudes an air of all business. Mentally, however, he pictures a spluttering fuse, and a spark slowly crawling up it.

Static barks over the intercom and the tune is silenced. Thomas stands, craning his head to look towards the speaker box attached to the wall.

“Well. That’s one good thing, at least.”

His gaze drops to . “I’ve not found anything of interest. I believe the last place we have to search is the sea fossil collection. Shall we?”

But he is already on the move. The mist buoys around him like petticoats of a lady's dress.

Ugh.[break][break]

The music is still playing and her head is reeling. In the breakroom, the source of the perish song is louder and more oppressive, and it makes it easy for Luka to miss more obvious clues.[break][break]

But the music box sitting atop a desk does catch her eye. For a moment she just stares at it, out of place amongst the mundane paperwork and pens that cover the desktop. Such a pretty, delicate thing...and yet it has a foreboding aura about it. Somehow, without even having to hear the tune, Luka knows this is what they've been looking for.[break][break]

Finding it doesn't solve the problem with the intercom though. And strangely, the music doesn't seem to be coming from the box himself. But takes that problem into her own hands, easily coming up with a simple- though reckless- solution.[break][break]

Luka manages to snatch up the music box and jump backwards just before Reiner zaps the intercom. The hissing of static and smell of burnt plastic hopefully indicate that the girl's plan had worked, and the song will stop.[break][break]

"Be careful, Mademoiselle!" she says anyways...because that's what a responsible adult should do, right? But Eris had already done it, so her warning is rather superfluous. Still, she tries to keep one eye on the younger, and one eye on the intercom, just in case frying it has caused any other problems.[break][break]

For a blessed moment it's quiet, and she finally has a moment to think. And she realizes now that picking up the cursed little box may not have been a good idea— the already dark and oppressive aura in the room seems to close in around her. The air feels thicker...is that a chill, or just a shiver running up her spine?[break][break]

Teeth worry her bottom lip as Luka sends out her Spheal, this time checking to see if the change in temperature is real, or just the result of her own paranoid mind. In the meantime, she continues to poke around the room and puzzle as to the meaning of the trinket in her hands.[break][break]

Wondering if it might do anything, she takes the box over to the rotom voicebox that had spoken to them earlier. If the ghost has anything else to tell them, perhaps the box might jog their memory? It's the only thing Luka can think of to help them figure out exactly what this specter is.[break][break]

The haunting melody plays back at her. Luka shivers again and closes the lid with a snap, then waits to see if anything might happen.[break][break]

She's a brave soul in many ways. To refuse to bat an eye in the presence of gods, to dare to defy the odds and even carry hope when the world threatens to end with some horrific event like heat death, but there are things that still claw at her chest nonetheless - The all-consuming darkness unease her spirits and seek to break her even as she stifles a scream, chills running down her spine as she shrinks into a corner.[break][break]

Strange flames light the stove, attempting to bestow warnings and curses upon them. But really, she's just happy for there to be some source of light as she takes a shaky breath in. Whistling? Fire on a stove? She hasn't quite understood why paranormal events happen, but the need to rid the museum of this little ghostly presence is more than clear to her.[break][break]

All things considered, is taking things rather well. Luka's instinct is still to protect the girl, however, and she flits over to where she assumes Eris still is as soon as the lights go out. "Stay close," she whispers, "We should try and meet the others—"[break][break]

Though as it turns out, it's and that will have to meet them. Luka nearly drops the music box in her hands as it begins to emit a screeching sound— it's jarring and piercing and awful, but there's an underlying familiarity to it. Before she can try to place it, however, she's distracted by the flames that erupt from the breakroom's stove and the haunting images that flicker within.[break][break]

Over the cacophony, she can hear yelling something. Unable to make it out clearly, she just shouts back:[break][break]

"I-I think the two of you might want to get back over here!"[break][break]

Her eyes remain locked on the stovetop, regarding every twisting visage with an uncomfortable twist of the stomach. Whatever it is that lurks in the fire doesn't seem violent yet, but they must have angered it somehow. But how can they placate something like this without even knowing what it is? Or what it wants?[break][break]

Thankfully, sharper minds than hers are able to put the pieces together.[break][break]

"Eh? A poltea...oh!"[break][break]

That naggingly familiar sound has a shape to it now. Though it's one Luka associates more with drowsy mornings and cashmere sweaters than a horrifying, screeching wail. Still, the assertion that this may just be a Pokemon helps to assuage her fear slightly. If it's an upset ghost, perhaps they can try to calm it...[break][break]

In the darkness, she fumbles around for her Rotom's love ball, hoping to shed some light on the specter that haunts them. Instead, she grabs her Jumpluff's by mistake, releasing a blissfully ignorant grass type into the fray. Frightened chirps soon join the din around them, and the pink puffball quickly buries herself into her trainer's hair.[break][break]

The music box feels heavier in her hands, for some reason. Luka stares at it, brows furrowed. Then, something clicks.[break][break]

It's a trinket, isn't it? It must have belonged to someone, or something. A m—[break][break]

"Quickly! I'm so sorry about this, but please... u-use memento!"[break][break]

Her Jumpluff seems confused at first, but trust in her companion overrides all else. A memento is performed and the little grass type faints along with it, leaving Luka to hope that her hunch might pay off.[break][break]

While Luka and Eris were busy solving the riddle and fixing everything in the breakroom, Thomas continued to feel more and more like the proverbial wet blanket. There's a sharp belch of static and then the music quiets.

The reprieve is only momentary, as seconds later every bulb in the place explodes. Thomas doesn't startle, but he does tuck his head, covering 's slight frame with the curve of his upper body, boots crunching on the newly scattered glass shards. He's had about enough of this.

He goes when Locke leads him, though his pace is more crisp and less of a maddened, fear-driven scramble. They reconvene with the girls in the breakroom.

"A Polteageist?" he asks, having caught the snippets of the conversation on the air. "Of course, that's what would be causing all this chaos. The ghost of old tea."

At the end of his patience, he calls forth his Aggron, who emerges in a clanging of metal sound, feeding off of her trainer's discomfort and eager to scrap with whatever might be present.

In the moments right before their haunting spirit appears, Luka swaps out her Jumpluff for her Rotom once again. This time, Lychee seems far more alert and serious than before. The buzzing ball of plasma seems fixated on the pyre in front of them, their eyes gleaming and mouth turned from a cackling smile into a frown.[break][break]

The apparition that appears before them isn't the most frightening, but there's a certain slow horror in the way that it moves— the twisting distortion of it all. Luka swallows down a frightened cry and takes an involuntary step back, throwing up her arms to try and defend against the incoming projectiles.[break][break]

It doesn't quite work. She takes a stapler to the side of the head and a mug right in the gut, and even though it hurts at least it's nothing lethal. Her Rotom, however, is passed something far more deadly— though it seems innocent enough at first glance.[break][break]

"We, um...w-we have your music box," she says shakily, holding it out towards the poltergeist. Perhaps they can make a trade? "W-would you, erm, l-like it back? Th-th-there's no need for us to um, to fi- woah!"[break][break]

A rush of hot air blows past her and ends that line of inquiry right where it starts. Luka winces as she rubs at the side of her head, reams of paper billowing around her on the steamcloud of air that the ghost projects. Lychee, in the meantime, regards the berry they've been given with the same suspicion that the rest of her companions seem to hold.[break][break]

"Eh? Ehhh? D-do you think it's really that bad?" Luka glances between the berry and the distorted shape of the Ploteageist, lips pursed in a confused frown. "Okay, um...L-lychee! Can't you just drop it?"[break][break]

They can't, but that doesn't mean they're trapped with it. A ghostly game of hot potato ensues between the two spirits as Lychee uses trick right back at the sentient teapot, tossing back their cursed item with a crackling hiss of electricity.[break][break]
