The smoke and combat of Mount Pyre is blaring in the background, Callan grunts, exhausted from battle earlier. The fight against Tempest Quinn and Gavin Merlino with Derek had sapped most of his energy alongside his Pokemon, but still with the relative chaos and smoke of the surrounding area, Callan manages to take a moment to heal up his Pokemon to relative fighting readiness with some of his League rations: Revives, Hyper Potions, Full Heals a few Leppa berries.

Once recovered, Callan's Gardevoir, Eurea, teleported the both of them just above the primal point at the top of the mountain. Despite Derek's Defog being used, the ring of clarity nearby did not allow vision past the top of the mountain.

What he did see however, surprised him. "Adrian?" He began, calling over to his bandmate. A spine-chilling feeling coursed through the entirety of his body as he froze in place, his eyes unblinking as he stared in disbelief. "Did you get missed over on the mission itinerary or something?" He asked, running through the list in his head, he must have missed it.

"Don't be so... naive." If he came off as harsh, it was because of what Callan represented to him now; the sort of station he aspired to. Truth be told, Callan's appointment to Elite Four had chaffed him, but he could decide instead to be happy for a friend rather than showing his own disappointment.[break][break]

"Can't I just be whiling away Hoenn's last hour...?" That would have been his preference, but the scheming of Rocket demanded more of them. He would at least need to keep up appearances, if not contribute in the battling with his usual gusto. Placate those who needed placating, and wash his hands of it after...[break][break]

...Though if this would be their last, he chose not to mask himself.[break][break]

That carried with it some nagging consequences... Though he chose to act so nonchalant about his being there, he could not count on Callan being so forgiving.[break]

Callan's silence towards Adrian's chastisement was his attempt at collecting himself. Was he naive? Yes, perhaps. Up until now, he had clear guidelines between League and Rocket, those who he worked with, those who he cared for, could not possibly have had Rocket affiliations.

They were members of a crime syndicate worldwide known for poaching, murder, stealing, and war crimes untold. He had found it difficult to understand, or accept, why anyone would choose to join such an environment. But the fact that he could not even see it in someone he had spent so much time with on and off the studio, truly showed how blind he was.

He should be angry, but instead all he could manage was a deep, intense bitterness that made him chuckle instead. It was a familiar feeling, when everything around you crumbled. All the shows, the tours, the spotlight, the musical accolades, but most importantly, the struggle of two kids trying to make it into an industry that was utterly unforgiving. Perhaps it was Hoenn's last hour, because it certainly felt like it to Callan. He didn't know what the future held now.

"Probably not man." Callan replied, a sad smile replacing abject shock, as he unclipped a pokeball from his belt, sending out Bowie, his Toxtricity. "SHIFT GEAR." On command, Bowie's internal voltage internalized, pumping electricity from its poison sacs into its body, fueling it's physical attributes to increase both its speed and its physical prowess.

"Raj, Stealth Rocks." Stones jut out of the ground, some floating into the air as magnetic geodes, before fading with a shimmer as if ephemereal. They surround Adrian and his pokemon, entrenching their position further. He is not wont to run from his troubles, but neither does he wish to lash out. For now, they remain at an impasse, Adrian bracing for the first trade of blows...[break][break]

"Smile because it happened." Although he naturally came off sardonic, Adrian endeavored not to let sentimentality subvert him now. But surely, there was more they could have accomplished together... But that was all scattered to the four winds.[break][break]

It was a good thing they had going, while it had lasted...[break]

Rocks scattered upon his side of the field, swiftly turning invisible by some malign force. Stealth Rock would target and spike any Pokemon he would switch in from now on. Callan had never been one to be reluctant for battle, but he'd not be able to afford to hold back.

"...OVERDRIVE." Electricity roared through the air in a distorted guitar arpeggio, blasts of shockwave, electricity coursing through the sonic eruption rippled through the fog as electric particle spread through the humid mist, visible to the opponent to see. Smile because it happened. Perhaps there was some truth to it, but right now all it did was fill bile in his throat and fury in his mind, before something clicked in his head.

"It doesn't have to be like this Adrian!" He yelled. "Turn yourself in, I'll vouch on your behalf!"

In the end, they would be responsible for many more, he realized...[break][break]

"Whirlwind!" There was little chance of Copperajah insulating itself from the supercharged attack despite its efforts, but even so Adrian held fast as it weathered the attack—unleashing its own in response. A breath of air siphoned through its trunk was just as swiftly expelled in a torrent of gale force winds.[break][break]

"Don't you go thinking I haven't thought it through..." It was only fair to Callan that he not lower his guard around someone who had committed themselves as Adrian had. Though it was well within his wishes, to some extent at least, it would not be something Adrian subjected himself to willingly...[break][break]

After all, any trust he once held within the League had been diminished.[break]

Fuck if it wasn't, Callan should be focusing on the battle, but instead his mind races with possibilities as to why Adrian is unable to exit Rocket. In the end, there were so many different conclusions he could think of that didn't involve just being able to swap out.

"Then help me understand Adrian." Callan replied. The lines of good and bad blurred so heavily when it was your friend on the other side. "Team Rocket is a criminal organization that steals, kills, poaches, and commits war crimes on an international level." Callan asked.

Whirlwind comes throught and Bowie is swept in the winds of Copperajah's gale, Callan himself holds steady as his COmfey projects tailwint to cut out the air to provide a space for him to stand, but he is forced to switch out Bowie. Callan extends a Pokeball from his belt, the gale granting him a moment to speak.

"...We all make our own choices in the end. But, what could you possibly want from them Adrian?" This was just the result of their paths diverging. Sending out his Gardevoir, Eurea, in its place after the gales subsided, Callan steadies himself.

"Aura Sphere."

The bullet from Eurea fires outwards, an orb of blue gathering from mystical energy firing out in a wave before her, trailing and arcing towards the Copperajah.

A long time ago Rocket had poised itself to free Adrian from the persecution of the League, which had accumulated evidence relating to a string of INCIDENTS pertaining to events surrounding this very mountain. "Return," He speaks calmly to the Copperajah as it sustains a telling blow from Gardevoir's AURA SPHERE, crushing it against the earth, which trembled underneath its berth. This time he did not seem interested in the pokeballs along his belt, however... He brandishes only an open hand, as if directing something unseen.[break][break]

"I can't imagine it's easy to understand, with so vague an answer..." A darkness claimed the mountain, stoked by his intent, as the shadow of the specter loomed over them. A marred stretch of grass roiled where something began to rise from the fel pit of earth; a stygian cocoon emblazoned with Death, unfurling its wings to reveal YVELTAL standing before them both, disturbing them with its rancor...[break][break]

"So I'll say this: I act in service to something greater than either. It has many asks, but I do not refuse them. Maybe there could have been a way..." Adrian seems to ponder on it for a moment, but realized taking the chance always opened up risks the League would not let him go after revealing himself to them...[break][break]

"But it seems wrong of anyone to ask the League to compromise on the institutions upon which it stands." Exceptions cannot be made for the privileged few without exposing the League to further corruption. And by his reckoning, it was.[break][break]

"So I will do what I must... As should you."[break]

Copperajah was struck, and Adrian answers. "What...?" Callan began, but very swiftly his thoughts were halted as a massive, black shadow erupted behind Adrian's body, red wings, black striated patterns, clear blue eyes. Yveltal.

It doesn't answer the question, not truly, he had no clue what Adrian needed, but he assumed as the Avatar of Death incarnate, Adrian assumed the League would not be able to provide him with a normal lifestyle. he had expected perhaps an answer more like blackmail, or that perhaps he had loved ones he was looking to protect, or perhaps it'd be better to pay the bills. But having him be an Avatar, that was a little difficult to absorb and process.

Callan's eyes stare up at the giant shadow, then back towards Adrian. "And we do so not because we seek the glory of men, but because the other options are worse." Callan began, "And we follow codes not because they bring gain, but because we loathe the people we would otherwise become." Callan clicked his Pokeball to return Gardevoir to its ball.

In the end, Adrian had a path, a purpose and a duty. And it put him at odds with the League. Even now, Callan chose to trust Adrian's words, but that didn't mean he had to stop him now. He had lost every bit of the desire to continue this fight. "Goodbye, Adrian. I hope wherever your path takes you, it'll end with your head held high, and not filled with regrets." With one last look at his former bandmate, he offered the briefest of smiles, before walking away.
