So Genevieve was a Coordinator rather than a Trainer. When it came down to it, a Contest was just a different kind of battle! Instead of strength, the battle took place on a different axis. The Gym Leader had watched Contests before, but he never could get into them due to how subjective it was. It was all about impressing judges. The concrete thinker preferred competition with an objective means of determining placement. Sure, there were judges watching matches now, but with the advent of instant replay, it was often clear who the winner of a battle was even in close situations.

"A race is just an unorthodox Pokémon contest, really," Josh tried to sell Genevieve on the idea of joining the circuit. "I know in last year's race that was a pilot for this year's season, the Federation gave out a Contest Ribbon to the winner. I think they're doing that again this year."

Interesting... Genevieve found herself smiling wide at Josh over the revelation. "Well, I always did want to have a ribbon or two to my name. Maybe to show my kids one day." The idea of being the cool mom who had Coordinator ribbons was on her mind now, as she even took out her phone to begin reading up on different kinds of contests. As she looks back up towards Josh, her head tilts gently to the side.

There's a meow meow behind him, and not too far away. Freezing in the cold. She's not really wanting to do much here, but she points it out. "Mr. Business, mind helping the sweet cat over there?" She has no more Pokeballs to speak of, but this meant that it'd be colder for her.

That was okay though. She liked giving to others more than herself.

"You gonna be out here much longer? Might be safer to head indoors soon, you know? It's only going to get colder in the early morning." she almost sounds like she's nagging, but the way her tone was, she probably was just worried, considering the outfit. Though Josh could handle himself. Surely.

Mr. Business, radiating heat, began to help the poor Meowscarada stuck in the cold, hugging onto the big gorilla with a grip to match. That cat was COLD out here.

It seemed Genevieve was a wannabe Contest Star or a talented one. While Contests weren't something Josh enjoyed, he smiled when the Ranger showed interest. "If you want to try, you should come to Mauville Gym sometime! Even if you're not looking to go on the Gym circuit, we have classes for casual riders and prospective racers! There's nothing like the freedom of riding on a Pokémon, even if you don't go at breakneck speed!" he shared his passion.

"Clyde here can keep me plenty warm!" Josh assured, trying to ease Genevieve's concerns. "If you want to head back to Mauville, I've got a spot in my office where you can warm up." Pinky juggled MYSTICAL FIRE among her feelers to keep warm.

Josh spoke almost romantically about the Gym, like he adored what he did. Passion was definitely something she idolized, so hearing it only made her a little giddier by the minute as she nods in response. "I don't even know if I have a rideable Pokemon... hm..." she ponders this for a little, wondering to herself. Was there something she could ride? Hm...

She warmed considerably when Pinky made the Mystical Fire, and she, and Mr. Business both, sighed in relief. This was the LIFE. "A girl could get used to that." She shoots little Pinky with the biggest, widest smile.

The offer was nice enough for her to agree. "It would be nice to get warm. I think that would be for the best anyways!"

In the background, she notices a small Larvitar, and with parted lips, she fishes in for her last Pokeball, before aiming it forward... and... CHUCKING IT.

"Sorry 'bout that! Had to save that little one from the snowy sands!"

When Genevieve expressed concern over not having a ride Pokémon, Josh's smile grew. "I have... a lot. Dozens. Let's say I'm probably Verdanturf Leather and Saddle's biggest customer. I've spent a small fortune with them. Thankfully I can write a lot of that off under my League stipend, but some of it comes out of my own pocket. It's well worth it, though."

Clyde and Pinky kept the duo plenty warm on the way back to Mauville City, the Sylveon sounding a low-pitched squeal that could have been startling. She meant no ill will; that was just how the giant fairy-type sounded.

While he were riding southward, Josh's eyes caught the gaze of a desperate-looking Donphan whose legs were frozen in the desert's tundra. The Pokémon was clearly out of its element, and famished-looking too. It was barely shivering despite how cold it was. How close was this poor Pokémon to perishing from hypothermia? In his right mind, he couldn't let a Pokémon suffer such a horrible fate under his watch as a Ranger. "Gimme a minute or two. I'll catch up with you."

The rider felt a refreshing surge of heat from behind him as the Flareon's flame-shaped tail rose straight up, the heat of a LAVA PLUME erupting in front of him. While it wasn't a pretty solution, the subsequent raining rocks smacking the Donphan's back, the heat was enough to melt the ice that left the ground-type immobile. He hurled a Premier Ball toward the wild, ready to retrieve his catch and head back to Mauville.
