Though the threat of the meteor had been averted, Rocket's work was not done until they had taken the entire world. But in the relative calm following the big event, Dorian felt it was a good idea to test out the effectiveness of some of their Pokemon. In particular, users of explosive moves.

In reality, this test run was more of an excuse to spend time with the newest Rocket Beast, and a fellow veteran of the Kanto takeover, Zev Harcourt . It had been years since the two would've run into one another. Still, the assassin's promotion was a welcome one to the Mad Dog.

Dorian was dressed mostly in his usual fashion, save for the jacket, and more desert-appropriate boots, as well as a hat and shades. The Mad Dog had also brought along an ice chest, stuffed with plenty of ice cold beer for the two men to enjoy.

When Zev received the invitation from dorian westcliff to run a field test on Pokémon with explosive moves, he was surprised to see the other man's name. Though the two Kanto War veterans had not exactly worked together during their years in that region, they knew of each other, of course. The reputations of the Mad Dog and the Black Hand were well known, even if some of it had been fueled by rumor and hearsay.[break][break]

"Westcliff," Zev said in greeting, his expression indifferent, his voice cold. Blue eyes flickered briefly to acknowledge the ice chest.[break][break]

Though the hitman preferred his tailored black suits whenever doing Rocket business, field testing Pokémon in the desert would not be merciful to such an outfit. As such, Zev wore practical, unassuming clothing, sturdy boots, and a pair of sunglasses. Six Poké Balls were clipped to his belt.[break][break]

Ever the professional, Zev went straight to business. "What are we using as targets for the test?"

"Harcourt, it's good to see you.", Dorian greeted the Black Hand, with far more warmth than the assassin. "Feel free to help yourself to a beer. There's also waters, if you'd prefer.", he'd tell the dark-haired man.

"Down there, my Pokemon have been setting up some target areas to test different explosives. I was able to borrow some Pokemon from the armory for our experiment.", he'd tell the Beast.

If he were to look down, he'd spot an Incineroar, Charizard, and Coalossal all working together to place different targets, some concentrated in smaller groups, while being overall well spaced out across the area. By the time he had arrived, the trio were just finishing up staging the area, before leaving the area to reconnect with Dorian.

"Would you like to have the first round?", Dorian offered.

Zev was not going to say no to free beer, especially since field tests typically did not require a great deal of mental acuity. But before choosing a bottle from the ice chest, he peered through a pair of binoculars at the targets in the distance.[break][break]

There was good variety in the setup, Zev had to admit. The targets were marked with coordinates, as if arranged on a map, for the ease of giving commands. Dorian knew his business.[break][break]

"Why not," the hitman replied before releasing several of his Pokémon: a Ferrothorn and Forretress for the field tests themselves, Chimecho, and Xatu. The group stood before him, silent, awaiting commands.[break][break]

Zev pointed to the first cluster of targets, a small group representing hostile bodies. "Ferrothorn, group B-3, EXPLOSION."[break][break]

While the Thorn Pod Pokémon set off toward his destination, his master finally opened Dorian's ice chest and picked out a bottle. The cap came off with a hiss of carbonation. Zev took a sip, put on noise cancelling headphones, then raised the binoculars to his eyes again to watch Ferrothorn's attack detonate.[break][break]

The blast rocked the area, sending dummy material, rock, and dirt spraying in all directions. When the dust settled, Ferrothorn's unconscious body was lying among sufficiently destroyed debris.[break][break]

Satisfied, Zev nodded at his Xatu. His expression showed none of what he felt inside. "Go bring him back," he commanded. The bird trilled, then teleported away.

The Mad Dog of Rocket wasted no time in helping himself to a beer. As the Black Hand looked over the area through a set of binoculars, Dorian began sipping away at his beer. His Charizard and Incineroar would return to his side, but the Coalossal would not. Instead, the coal monster would find himself at the cluster of targets that corresponded with F-1.

"Explosion!", Dorian called out to the behemoth from above.

The Coalossal would charge up momentarily, before unleashing an explosion that leveled the area around him. The makeshift shacks, the dummies, all of them were reduced to splintered wood. And in the center of the explosion lay the unconscious Coalossal.

Dorian would laugh in satisfaction and excitement as he took in the destruction caused by the Explosion. And this was only the first round.

"Flaming Lizzy, be a good girl, and retrieve the Coalossal for me, please~", Dorian ordered the Charizard, handing her a Pokeball. The Charizard would do as she was told, flying over to collect the fallen coal beast.

Dorian would turn back to Zev, his expression becoming solemn. "I need to ask you something, Zev.", Dorian started. "You have any idea what happened to Chu-e and Eris? I know you were all on the Littleroot front, but I haven't seen either of them since.", he told the Black Hand, clearly worried about the two.

Chu-e Choi was his best friend, and Eris Halla was someone he was especially protective over, something well known to many Rockets.

Upon the Xatu's return with the unconscious Ferrothorn, Zev's Chimecho floated over to administer healing. Meanwhile, their master took a sip from his beer and sat with Dorian while the other man's Pokémon took their turn on the testing grounds.[break][break]

Zev shook his head at Dorian's question. "I didn't see them. Between the League's forces and Dialga, the fighting had been chaotic. Choi and Eris weren't part of my team for the operation, either."[break][break]

They were two members determined as Missing In Action ever since the attacks on Mt. Pyre, Littleroot Town, and the meteoroid. And they weren't the only ones, either; Cillian Quinn had a list of missing grunts he wanted hunted down, and Zev had been one of the people tasked with finding them.

"I see. Thank you.", Dorian replied, disheartened by the lack of information on his dear friend, and the kid he saw as a practical niece. "Do you think they were captured by League forces?", he'd inquire, clearly worried about the possibility. While they weren't likely to hurt Eris, since she was still just a kid, Chu-e was a different story.

A beast under Silas, and an Underboss before his murder at the hands of MATIAS SILPH. He had no doubts that they would not go easy on him during interrogation. And considering what he did to former Councilman Orion Lykos, there was the element of bad blood.

A Galarian Weezing, a rental from the Rocket Arsenal, laid out a Misty Terrain, before unleashing a Misty Explosion. Though the attack wasn't as spectacular as a conventional Explosion, the damage done could not be denied. Such a Pokemon would be handy in dealing with Dragon specialists, and other Pokemon susceptible to Fairy-type attacks.

Through his binoculars, Zev watched the Galarian Weezing erupt with MISTY EXPLOSION before he answered Dorian's question.[break][break]

"It's possible. I wouldn't put it past the League to torture Choi for information, either."[break][break]

As much of a reputation Kanto Rocket had for such methods, Zev was certain the League had their own secret operatives that carried out their dirty work. Hoenn's government pretended to be good, but he knew that all governments prioritized morality below fighting prowess.[break][break]

"We'll find out soon, either way. The entire ranked leadership is meeting in a few days to discuss current affairs, including the people missing in action."[break][break]

Zev's Forretress was up next. Xatu teleported it to a cluster of targets before teleporting back to safety. After a few heartbeats, Forretress used SELF-DESTRUCT, completely obliterating the wooden structures.

"Of course. And in his state, I don't know how much he could take.", he'd tell Zev. "The sooner we can find them, the better.", he'd continue.

An Alolan Golem would arrive at A5. The rocky beast would unleash an explosion of his own. This one, thanks to its ability in Galvanize, was not only slightly more potent, but had an electrical effect to it. Such a Pokemon would be handy in dealing with Water or Flying specialists, especially if backed up by Ground-types, or Pokemon with electricity absorbing abilities.

"Of course. If there's anything I can do to help with that, I'll be ready.", he'd tell Zev. "Though truth be told, some of the names I've heard don't surprise me. In my dealings with the names I know, some of them weren't cut out for Rocket.". he'd confide. One of those names being Johanna Joy.

Zev had no doubt Dorian would be one of the first Rockets to take action ones orders were given. He gave the other man a single nod, acknowledging his offer.[break][break]

"Not many people are."[break][break]

The Beast recalled the faces of those who'd voiced dissent at some of declan walsh's statements during the summit meeting in Sootopolis. He wondered just how many of them had fled — either after the meeting, like a certain rat had done, before the recent operations, or right after them.[break][break]

"The results look promising," Zev said of their Pokémon's field tests. He lifted the binoculars to his eyes again to survey the damage. "Let's do a few more, then record the data and call it a day."
