Was that . . . Victini?! No, it was the vengeful spirit of Vicitini. A chill ran over the Beast, crawling down her spine. Lex wasn’t a superstitious woman, but this was unsettling.

Lex would have been more impressed with the Typhlosion’s terasalization if she wasn’t so distracted by the boat being blown off course by a SEARING SHOT.

“Shit!” her hands griped the side of the vessel tightly as it abruptly came to a halt on the river’s shore. The Basculegion followed, making sure the vessel wasn’t blown to smithereens before they could disembark safely. The ghost disappeared back into its pokeball as the Beast stumbled out of the craft.

A dark mist leaked out of the pokeball she snapped off her belt. In the eerie ambiance of The Borders, the Shadow Gardevoir seemed right at home. The haunting image and oppressive anger of Victini matched the haunting aura of the ghostly Gardevoir. She peeled out of the darkness and into the foggy atmosphere, an equally as lifeless creature with a cold, distant presence.

The abomination didn’t belong.

The Gardevoir’s lips peeled apart, hissing through sharp teeth. Long, bony fingers unfurled, rising to cast a blinding DAZZLING GLEAM as cover for the Rockets to escape the vengeance of the vestigial spirit.

[attr="class","fernpost"] The cheeky way he poked his tongue out at Marza in response to her grumbling was quickly lost in the hubbub that began to unfold. The victini assailing them was far from normal. Its eerie, enraged shrieking sent a cold bolt a fear shooting down his spine. It was good, then, that his typhlosion was able to set the vengeful specter back as the boat rocked underneath them and ran aground with enough force to knock him off his feet if he hadn't grabbed onto the boat railing.[break][break]

One by one, his eyes darted to each team member - under the cover of Lex's gardevoir as it continued to assail the victini. All accounted for. Though he caught a strange glint in jayden cross's eyes, even as he was telling them all to go. Fern's hand darted out to shake his arm. "You good?" You look like you've seen a ghost. Something he considered adding, and didn't. It sort of went without saying, because maybe he had. In a place like this, it felt like all bets were off the table.[break][break]

Nim lumbered after him as he slid out of the boat. "Keep assisting!" he directed, and the crystalline pokemon turned to follow the gardevoir, unleashing a TERA BLAST at the victini as well.

Marza was not and would never be a friend to ghost-types. She didn't like them and, frankly, didn't trust them. There was something not quite right about undead pokemon and, admittedly, she was raised a skeptic and superstitious person. That hadn't changed much over the years though she'd grown somewhat more tolerant with fern delaney 's fixation on the weird little bastards.

Right then? Facing off against an undead mythical pokemon in a world that shouldn't exist — well, that just wasn't her cup of tea. Instead, she was fixating on the boat swiftling mooring itself on the side of the river. A short boat ride, but at least they were on the other side of the river. Fern would likely make fun of her, but fuck it, she wasn't sticking around to fight the phantom Victini in a moored boat.

Kuru had righted himself, shaking his feathers from the impact of his fall. Clearly, he was as displeased with the situation as she was and shot off for the safety of the shore, leaving them behind. Cowardly, okay, but she couldn't quite blame him. Maybe this was the karma she received for booting the other ghost-type off the boat. Maybe Fern was right, but she was not about to tell the cheeky bastard that as she swiftly vaulted the side and make contact with the soft shore beneath.

at the end of the store, he sees the phantom of a figure that can only be his mother. her eyes gleam like rubies under the blackness as she beckons to him. she calls him closer with both hands, but jayden just stands there.

[break][break] fire balls scour the sky ahead of him, as his comrades clamber out of the boat and towards the shore. his heart closes in his throat as he stares —

[break][break] it's only fern's voice that pulls him out of the dark.

[break][break] "i — " he says, as the other shakes his arm. another fireball blazes past, rocking the boat. "let's go," he finishes, with a final nod, sliding off the boat and onto the shore's edge. as they tear through the grass, he calls forth his spectrier again. "everyone, grab on!"

[break][break] once everyone has held on, the spectrier uses PHANTOM FORCE to teleport them away. his stomach gives a dedicated lurch, and soon they're in the middle of the cliffside. jayden takes a breath, looking around. the ghost of his mother was nowhere to be found, and he finds his hand gripping that of fern delaney's, perhaps a little too harshly.

Perhaps it was time to leave this place. With a vestigial spirit of a deceased, vengeful legendary on their tail, The Borders were no longer safe for them.

That voice, it was so familiar, a sweet melody full of life rather than withering away like a dying lamb, bleating for release. Lex turned to see her mother, face full and soft unlike the sunken cheeks and pale complexion she remembered. She looked better dead than when she was alive.

The way she looked at her though was unmistakable: disappointment.

Who are you?

Of course, she knew who Lex was, but the disappointment made it abundantly clear what she meant. Lex had changed. She had morphed into a version of her father, a criminal, a degenerate, someone who cared more about their next win then their family. He cared little if harm befell them, which it did. She had done the same . . . with Killian Decker.

This isn’t real.

Lex grit her teeth, scowling at the vision before sharply turning away, “Let’s go,” she snapped at the Gardevoir, holding out a hand. Lex phased away with her Shadow Pokemon who followed Jayden’s Spectreir to the cliff. The sight of the broken seal was a bit disturbing. Her gaze darkened, the obvious question spoken out loud: “What broke it?”

But rather than press, the intent in his gaze promises that they’ll circle back to it later. Once they’ve passed the worst of the mess. Quickly, he recalls his typhlosion as they mean to make their escape.[break][break]

No matter how accustomed they are to the warping that comes with using PHANTOM FORCE, being pulled through is another experience entirely. Their stomach flips over as the four of them are yanked to safety by the other admin’s spectrier.[break][break]

Though they’ve never been on this cliffside before, Fern feels something akin to deja vu when they turn to see the large, seal looming over all of them, cracked open, vacant. Drawn by their interest, they drift closer– a hand coming to rest on a broken fragment of the ‘door’ as they peer into the darkness.[break][break]

“Something powerful…” they murmur in response to Alexandra Briarwood ’s question. “And…angry. Hateful.” Maybe even more so than the vengeful spirit they just encountered. Their eyes seek out Marza’s as they say so. Wondering if she feels it too. The familiar, lingering weight of malicious emotion.[break][break]

Just like the ominous sense they both felt on the peak of Mt. Pyre, after the primal point fired.[break][break]

It eats at Fern’s curiosity, but for the time being, his trepidation gets the better of him. Turning back to the group fully, he steps away from the seal and its barren interior. “I’m not sure we should stick around for very long.”[break][break]
