THE BORDER IS A MOUNTAINOUS PURGATORY OF MUTED SEPIA SMOKE. By floating islands, translucent bridges soar through the realm toward the heavens. Tall stone spires jut out from the spiritual mist. In the sky, the wisps of spirits can be seen heading toward their final destination before the afterlife...[break][break]

Curiously, there are four broken seals embedded in four mountains. Though Adrian Malcolm and YVELTAL may have seen their location upon their unceremonious entry, the spirit realm has shifted since their last visit, rendering each broken seal far apart from each other.

for the most part, the area between the first spire and the entry point has been surveyed and recorded. topography has been checked, and the other high points of the area were located from afar through binoculars. the exact features were, however, difficult to determine thanks to the thick fog.

a flat part of the plains was kyle's choice. several supplies were to be carted in by the other three, while kyle's job was to find a suitable location. he was the only one that could stay after all, thanks to the properties of his sygna suit. another good thing about it was it kept spirits in bay, though the correlation between it was still lost in kyle.

maybe it suppressed his connection with ho-oh?

they weren't the only thing he was wary about. while he's unsure if this was still part of ultra space, kyle still has his silvally out for security, looking out for him as he clears out the space from debris and such. ultra beasts were still a possibility, since they came from a wormhole and all.

as he waits for the others to get back, he opens up his phone and marks the west as their next destination. plant life was abundant in that place. it only seemed fair to take a look in case vegetation out there can serve as a food source for their base camp.

making constant trips were risky, after all.

It had become the backdrop of Penelope's traumatic trip to death's doors. And now, with the same witnesses that had surrounded her shriveled naked body, she was looking to return. To discover what was left to uncover.

A muted Penelope crept down from the back of the sunne pokemon, tired eyes glad at their surroundings.

Saving melody had been her choice.

Going to the borders had been her choice.
[Break][break]
There was no one to blame but herself.

And yet, when faced with her very own coffin, Penelope couldn't resist the urge to shudder.

"Hey." She waved at kyle lopez, greeting him w a forced smile. It looked like he did his best to set up some type of encampment -- a necessity if they were going to continue jumping in and out of wormholes like this.

"Nice job on finding this place, by the way."

It was secluded enough to create some distance from the dangers of this rift, all while being open for their tents and other baggage. Glancing back at MATIAS SILPH and Melody Miro, Penelope sent forth her Machamp to help unload the supplies.

"Maybe you two," she pointed at the champion and Matias, "can work on setting up our tents and bags while Melody and I work on setting up a garden. Just in case we decide to stay."

That, and for once in her life, Penelope's old hobby could come into use. Once a green thumb always a green thumb.

She showed up in her jammies, with a spare set of clothes in her bag to change in and out of. However what she didn't expect was PENELOPE LIVY to suddenly sign up Melody to be a gardener. "As Elisabeth Fiorelli can probably tell you, I'm an awful gardener." she says as she places both of her hands up in surrender. [break][break]

"But I can try something else if you guys have idea. I'm not really good at things outside of fighting and the arts.." she says awkwardly as Melody left out the fact she was apparently very good at pissing people off without knowing. [break][break]

"Hmmmmmm.." she says as she looks at her pokeballs she brouth with her. "But I've heard that salt is pretty good at deterring spirits, so Gargancle and I can go around spread it to try and repel an of them from messing with us again." she says selecting gargancles pokeball and releasing it, as it uses SALT CURE to begin working on a salt circle to encompass the whole base.

finding himself back in the wilderness (if one could even call it that) reminds him of his days in kanto where he had spent the majority of his life in camps like this one. it's why he settles in easily, greeting kyle with a pat on his shoulder as he approaches.[break][break]

"yeah, yeah. i got it."[break][break]

he starts setting up tents with or without kyle's help. his tangrowth helps as well, even going as far as to conjure a GRASSY TERRAIN around them to make the scene feel nicer.[break][break]

"how about we just take watches instead?"[break][break]

from within his backpack, a red fleck detaches itself from the MYSTERIOUS ORE. it somehow slips out of his backpack and drifts up to hang in the air where the wormhole once was.[break][break]

he doesn't know much about the pokemon from paldea, but Melody Miro's garganacl seem to one of the natural ways to keep the spirits at bay. he thinks of having to station a pokemon or so as well, but decides against it for its safety. purifying salt will have to do for now.

division of labor has been set by PENELOPE LIVY, pairing him up with MATIAS SILPH, but kyle isn't so sure of his ability to do it as Melody Miro was. he wasn't an outdoorsy person, and didn't have actual experience in setting up an actual tent. it just happened automatically on games, after all.

still, he shrugs. how hard can it be?

as he helps MATIAS SILPH, his eyes follow a red spot leave his bag. unsure of what it was, no words were able to leave his mouth, until he sees it reach the wormhole they came from.

there he sees an ultra beast breaching their entryway. the solgaleo that had accompanied them hadn't been reacting physically, although kyle can see it constrained as he takes a glance at it. cosmic power forcibly shrinks the wormhole, giving resistance for the ultra beast to follow after easily.

"robin!"

kyle quickly whistles for his silvally, who wakes up from its nap and immediately senses the ultra beast. a multi-attack fires from the chimera, hitting it squarely on a critical spot, forcing it back to where it came from.

speculations were made at their appearance. they weren't present there when they came from the portals, but only came for them the moment they utilized a wormhole.

It was a bit disappointing. Maybe some time tending a garden would've brighten something within her, but alas, there was no forcing a green thumb onto someone. If Melody wanted to sprinkle salt around, then so be it.

Nodding, she moved toward an open section to their left, grabbing a hoe to begin chopping at the ground. Piece by piece, she tended to the soil, preparing it for the bundle of seeds she had kept tied up in a ziploc in her bag.

"Yeah, sure. You can be first, then Melody, then me, then Kyle."

It was an arbitrary list, but it worked for their situation.

Her concentration to the garden broke at the sound of Kyle's voice, urging her to look back up and catch the flickering silhouette of a foreign beast.

Eyes widening, Penelope immediately reacted with a surge of ferocity that had been missing during their last visit.

The fighting type took swift action, striking at the same time as the Silvally, landing another critical hit onto the ultra beast.

matias has full trust in kyle that he doesn't even bother releasing the tent parts he has in his hands at the sight of an ultra beast attempting to slip through the wormhole. he simply watches the battle play out over his shoulder, content in staying out of it.[break][break]

not that it lasts very long, anyways.[break][break]

he praises them, then returns to finish setting up their tents.[break][break]

"if more show up then we'll just stand our ground and keep sending them back."[break][break]

"we can always return to hoenn with solgaleo," he answers PENELOPE LIVY. it's one advantage they have over other groups that decided to scour the border as well.

"for now, i guess we have a beast killer to keep us safe." he looks at his silvally, who naps on the ground as soon as the ultra beast was dispatched. "it's biologically coded to be their best hunter around, so we can always decide our move accordingly depending on how it acts."

it's how he could've read the necrozma during the darkest day, had he learned to trust instinct over theory given the uncertainty of the unknown.

kyle takes MATIAS SILPH' invitation fast. the thought of spending long periods of time in ultra space seemed dubious, given how sygna suits seemed to be the key from getting fatigued in this region, but pushing limits to see how far they can go was one of the objectives of this expedition. if anything goes wrong, there's always an option to back out.

with no cell towers on other dimensions, kyle has to settle with bluetooth as the way to send files of the updated map. PENELOPE LIVY, MATIAS SILPH and Melody Miro would receive a general topography of the place from kyle, though the labels were vague at best. single letters mark locations, with w marking the waterfall they came from and o for their origin point. c marks their current location.

Was growing fruits in a place where the dead resided such a good idea..? She wondered about the consequences this garden could have here...but to be honest that sort of subject was way over he heard. She continues to help gargancle spread the salt around when the rest of the group spotted an ultra beast following them. [break][break]

The rest of them swiftly dealt with the Ultra beast that popped up and left just as quickly. "That was..interesting..I never saw an ultra beast enter from one of those wormholes up close and personal.." [break][break]

She stays silent for the most part, following the others into the tent that was set up. After about an hour or so she'd come back out of the tent and sit next to MATIAS SILPH. Her FEAR wouldn't let her fall asleep and it was evident on her face as she approached him, as she looked all around them before sitting. "What if another one of those things pops up and kills us...wasn't there a massive black on you and kyle fought against?" she asks him, trying to keep her voice down. But whether or not it was so she wouldn't wake up kyle lopez and PENELOPE LIVY or as to not alert another ultra beast to their presence was as good as anyone's guess.

Without another qualm to be said, the councilwoman retreated back to her shared tent with Melody Miro, leaving the beast killer and MATIAS SILPH to keep watch outside.

The night was rough, filled with harsh movements that twisted her body in every which way. Memories of near-death experience haunting her.

"Penny," the familiar voice cried to her, "penny where did you go?!"

With each repetition of her name, Penelope's body scrambled, wiggling further and further away from the grasp of her old friend's memory. But there was no escape.

A sudden surge jolted her awake and all at once her world resolved back to color. Rubbing her eyes awake, the councilwoman jostled back to her feet with tired movements and slowly crept toward her tent's exit. If Melody was missing, that'd mean it was her turn next for watch.

"Oh, you're both out here."

She walked toward the two, settling herself beside them.

"Sorry, couldn't sleep much. I can take it from here if you two want to sleep."

As penny walked towards the duo, she hears a whisper on the winds. [break][break]

"It thinks it's a person." in an older woman's voice. Her neck SNAPS towards Penny's direction, fear and anger filling her face. But once she identifies that it's just penny there she calms her expression.[break][break]

"Jesus! You scared me." she says in a hushed voice, hoping she wouldn't wake up kyle lopez. "I'm alright, I'm gonna stay up a bit longer cause I cant sleep. I feel on edge." she says fearful of something. "Not sure why though, I guess that ultra beast really made me scared..." she says as she wraps her blanket around herself a bit tighter, trying to grab onto whatever comfort she could feasibly achieve in a place where the dead roamed freely.

the sole hour he has to himself is spent in peace. with no one to talk to and no one to bother him, he finds solace in the dead of the night; an odd thing to feel in a place such as this, perhaps.[break][break]

"yeah, we fought one in sootopolis. but last i heard that thing's roaming around in galar so we should be fine."[break][break]

one voice was enough. two was kind of pushing it. a conversation on top lets the exhausted kyle get up from his sleep. he feels restless as he begrudgingly gets out of the tent, looking at the three with a smile.

"you know what, why don't all of us stay out here instead? like a happy family." on hindsight, it seems tasteless given that he probably has the best semblance of an actual relationship with his parents. "better yet, let's just move on and just straight up explore the rest of the map."

apparently, no one wants to rest but him. it's alright though. he's used to all-nighters.

as he pulls out a compass to check direction (since he can't use gps), he notices a black streak moving away from matias, extending out from him before detaching completely. it runs to the west.

"looks like that's our adventure."

he turns to his silvally. "you're guarding our supplies," he orders, which was responded with a yawn.

"no point in watching if everyone's up anyways. let's go."
