[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Alongside
Aubre McKenna-Settentrione and the talented Tinkatuff, Aurelie helped out
thalia black as much as she can with hammering together the stock and cross-guard of the arbalest. Deeply impressed by how Thalia has managed to make at least this much of her "crazy plan" a reality, Aurelie couldn't resist reaching out and giving her a high-five once she sections off the wire into what looks to be a reasonable bow-string.
"I didn't think this was going to work, but I can almost believe it now," she admitted candidly, an excited grin breaking across her face.
As
parker jones and
thalia black agreed to hunker down into their bolthole in a wall away from the gazebo, Aurelie looked around herself for the last thing they'll need: a proper bolt or quarrel to be shot from their makeshift arbalest. She swiveled her head back and forth for what felt like an eternity, mentally sifting through and discarding possibilities. Then, as she glanced at the pink-haired woman's Blaziken, Aurelie's single uncovered eye widened.
Respectfully, knowing she was addressing another trainer's Pokemon who might not even listen to her, Aurelie approached
parker jones's Blaziken and pointed to one of the narrow iron pillars supporting the gazebo.
"Sorry to bother you, but I have a favor to ask. Would you mind punching or kicking the top of the pillar until it comes free, please? I'm pretty sure you have the strength to pull it off."To help clarify her instructions, she also mimed aiming a punch at the top of the pillar. After a moment of deliberation, the Blaziken did as she asked, striking the very apex of the pillar with sharp, controlled strikes that also heated the metal to a blazing white heat.
The perfect temperature for forging, she thought with pleasure.
The long pole of metal fell over, snapped and half-melted on top. Before it could cool, Aurelie urgently beckoned to the Tinkatuff that accompanied
thalia black.
"Please, come over here if you don't mind! I have a need for your hammer and your strength too. Please, hammer the hot part of this pillar on top into a…a..."Aurelie fell silent for a moment, sinking into thought. That Corviknight basically heavily armored in pure steel. She wasn't sure even a razor-sharp point would pierce that armor, so it wouldn't make sense to shape the quarrel like a sword. On the other hand, if they wanted to knock the Corviknight into a wall or another building, the quarrel's point should have a shape that had a lot of stopping power.
She fired rapid instructions at the Tinkatuff.
"Make the top part wide and blunt with a hollow point if you can, like this, with a cup-like indentation on top..."Drawing on her smithing expertise, Aurelie mimed hammering it into the shape that she wanted. After her own moment of deliberation, the Tinkatuff thankfully also agreed to assist her. Wielding the gigantic hammer with powerful blows, she followed Aurelie's instructions thoroughly and carefully, while the Blaziken remained nearby to continue heating up the metal pole when it started to cool too much for hammering.
It took some time before the quarrel was forged out to Aurelie's liking, but at last it was done, with the invaluable help of the Tinkatuff and the Blaziken serving as the hammer, anvil, and forge that Aurelie had in her workshop but currently lacked in this magical metal world. The quarrel's wide hollow-point tip would deform and expand on impact, delivering a more powerful, forceful punch.
"Thank you both so much," she said sincerely to both Pokemon.
"I couldn't have done this at all without your help! Thank you!"At the last second, she had an inspiration. Aurelie knew very well that Steel types were vulnerable to fire, so maybe the arbalest should fire a flaming quarrel! She pursed her lips in thought for a moment, before tearing off strips of thin cotton fabric from the T-shirt she was wearing under her sweater.
These she tied around the point of the quarrel. Then she rummaged in her pockets until she came up with a couple tubes of barely used lip balm. Scanning the ingredients, she saw mineral oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil—all sounding very flammable. Working quickly, she rubbed the lip balm all over the strips of fabric until they were all coated with oil, thus hopefully creating a functional makeshift flaming arbalest quarrel.
So what if it also smelled faintly of strawberries?
Once she was finished, she dragged it over to
parker jones and
thalia black in their bolthole in the wall, grunting with effort. In the distance, Aurelie could vaguely see
Galayne Valois and her Pokemon fending off the flying Corviknight. Even a few minutes should hopefully be enough to load the arbalest, aim it, and fire at that winged menace.
"Here's a quarrel that we can use in the arbalest, thanks to the Pokemon of both you ladies. Before you fire, have the Blaziken light the tip on fire," Aurelie announced, pulling the long, slender rod of metal forward.
"If your Pokemon are still willing to help out more, I can work together with them to forge another quarrel in case we miss with this one. Always best to have a backup plan, right?"[newclass=.aurelie img]height:100px;width:100px;padding:15px;border:1px solid #fff;border-radius:100px;[/newclass]
