"You've just described my mother." Remiel laughs, though quickly returns to listening as Josh speaks of his time in the Cloud. A TAILLOW decides to perch itself on his Spectrier's head in the meantime. Bothered by this, however, Rocinante huffs and HEXES the poor bird into unconsciousness. Remiel is lucky to catch it as it falls.

Left with an unsatiated curiosity by the end of Josh's tale, the royal pauses only to retrieve a Luxury Ball from his pack and store the Taillow within it. "What happened exactly?"

At least Remiel Calcifet could relate. All too often, to those in positions of prestige of power, the world truly was not enough. Their hunger for domination or fame was insatiable. Josh had to do a double take after seeing the battle with the Taillow. "What power... a ghost Pokémon that can battle normal-types..." he mused aloud, still dazzled by the spectral equine. He couldn't take his eyes off Roicante for multiple reasons, though the predominant one was just how fast the Spectrier could run.

That was when Remy had more questions about the end of Josh's tale. A tear glazed his eyes and dripped down his cheek every time he thought about the grisly fate of the swift Beast he had chased for thirteen years. "Raikou died in the war. Probably at the behest of Team Rocket during the invasion. When I found out, I felt... empty. Ever since then, I've been trying to get to the bottom of the tale. How Raikou could have died, and who was responsible... and do everything I can to make sure they're punished for it. A noble and majestic creature such as Raikou doesn't deserve a fate like that."

Their trek through Route 116 takes them through a verdant green valley flanked by a red rock canyons to its east. The Galarian takes a moment to appreciate the natural splendor with a sweeping gaze. Though that attention briefly shifts when he takes note of the quiver in Josh's voice... accompanied by a single tear down his cheek.

If Remiel had known anything about its death during his time as Admin, he might have relayed that information then and there. But, unfortunately, he'd never come across such reports. Had Team Rocket truly done something so abhorrent and vile? He wouldn't put some of its members past it.

"War is a terrible thing... at least those who lose their lives to it find some form of eternal peace as recompense. It is we, the survivors, who must endure the pain of its scars. It is we who must live up to the sacrifices they made so that they are not in vain."

Remiel Calcifet 's words were both poetic and well-chosen. The Galarian was a lot more articulate than Josh, which was to be expected for someone in royalty. "You see, the whole reason I became a trainer, and even a Pokémon racer, was my childhood dream of meeting, befriending, and riding Raikou. That's why I was so devastated when I found out Raikou died. So now I have a new dream: pursuing everything I do to honor Raikou. That includes my bid for Champion Rank, as well as every other thing I'm tasked with as Mauville's Gym Leader. Most importantly, though, it means getting to the bottom of who or what is responsible for Raikou's death and bringing them to justice." There was lightning in his eyes as he said that last sentence in particular.

Though there were plenty of rumors flying around about the lengths Josh would go through to make his dream reality, seeing the passion in his expression was completely different than reading about it. He truly had lived his life as a trainer with the desire to sit in Raikou's thundercloud saddle and go faster than anyone else ever had on land. Perhaps even a destructive desire. "Have you considered bringing Rocinante to Mauville Racing Grounds? I bet you'd win a Badge pretty easily with a Pokémon that fast."

The exiled prince show's his appreciation of Josh's attitude with a nod. Wallowing in despair would achieve nothing. Remiel, himself, had learned that lesson some time ago.

"Well... if the legend is accurate, a Raikou came back to life once. Perhaps it might do so again someday. Perhaps it already has." The royal adds, shifting a look at the other man. "I wouldn't normally get one's hopes up on resurrection, but my Flygon returned to me through the threshold of the afterlife that appeared in THE BORDERS."

His Spectrier slows to a stop when it notices a DOLLIV planting LEECH SEEDS on the side of the path. When it notices them, however, the Dolliv attempts to run. Hoping to make a quick meal of the plant, Rocinante uses the PHANTOM FORCE to catch up to it and trample it.

"Woah there," Remiel coos, pulling back on the reins with one hand while the other reaches for an empty Luxury Ball. "I don't know about that... Rocinante has a mind of his own sometimes, after all. Just as he did when he was alive." He chuckles in response to Josh's question, tossing the empty ball down to capture the Dolliv.

"Indeed, that's how the Johtonian legend goes," Josh nodded back. "Raikou, Entei, and Suicune gave their lives centuries ago, and the Great One, Ho-oh, brought them back to life. They roamed Johto, looking for human allies... that is, until the war. Now Entei is the only one that remains, and he is in kyle lopez 's capable hands."

THe topic shifted to the rift at THE BORDER. "That's incredible! I'm so glad you and your Flygon could be reunited. I've got one myself, named Verte, who sees a lot of use at my Gym. The way they fly like insects instead of like dragons is so unique." He stopped to think about it. Perhaps a clue would be there? If Raikou was truly dead, its soul would be wandering The Border. "I've already spent quite a bit of time exploring The Border. I may have to return there myself, if only to learn more about it. When I was there, I got to meet the soul of my Doublade that died in battle, and I got to help her rest in peace.

The ethereal jaunt prompted Josh to spur Blinky to greater speeds to catch up with him. "Was that PHANTOM FORCE? I've ridden my Dragapult while he uses that, and it's such an amazing experience. Unfortunately the move isn't racing legal, but it's still one fast way to get around!" After the battle, Josh nodded at Remiel's comment. "True; Pokémon do have minds of their own. Some of mine have been reluctant to let me on them, but it's just a matter of persistence. If that kind of competition isn't his thing, then I would respect that. I just noticed how fast he was, that's all!"

Josh's enthusiasm about FLYGON is a pleasure to bear witness to. Not many cared for them, after all. Bug-type Pokémon weren't exactly popular, and Flygon resembled them almost more than they did Dragon-type. Nevertheless, Remiel found them quite fascinating himself.

Though this was coming from a man who firmly believed there was a little bit of Dragon-type in many otherwise unconventional species, such as GOODRA and KANGASKHAN. Certain creation myths paid credence to the idea, but he was otherwise mocked by most for it.

Not one to delve into such a subject so abruptly, however, Remiel abstains from doing so. In the meantime, a SMEARGLE takes it upon itself to paint Rocinante's rear. The Spectrier, however, doesn't take kindly to the idea and BULLDOZES it in reverse. Remiel sighs, then pulls out a Luxury Ball to capture it in a golden flash afterward.

When he's about to respond after pocketing his latest capture, however, the crown prince receives a text. The League is requesting his presence for check-in as part of his reintegration program. "Apologies, my friend, but it looks like I need to take my leave post-haste. I don't want to be late for an appointment with our esteemed body of government." He adds with a smile, grabbing his reins.

"Let's meet again soon."

Josh frowned when he heard Remiel received a text for a sudden League obligation. He wanted to hop on the Spectrier alongside the prince and see what kind of speed the phantom equine was capable of. Not today, though. Even if he had the time, would the Exacting let him? "Bleh, League obligations. As a Gym Leader, I'm more than familiar. You can't exactly say no to them."

Seeing the royal's hands firmly on the ghost-type's reins, Josh knew it was time for them to part. "I'm sure we'll see one another again. That Spectrier of yours is something else!" With that, the two were off in a flash. The Gym Leader squeezed his Jolteon's sides in an effort to keep up with the phantom horse, but even the electric-type could not keep pace. That settled it.

He was going to find one of those swift Pokémon for himself.
